Found in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook, Dance Theatre of Harlem is a leading dance institution of unparalleled global acclaim. Known for its thrilling performances that successfully challenge preconceived notions, Dance Theatre of Harlem performs an eclectic, demanding repertoire consisting of treasured classics, neo-classical Balanchine works, cutting edge contemporary works, and works that use the language of ballet to celebrate African American culture. Bringing new life to the art form of classical ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem is a performance not to be missed.

“Ethan Russell has taken some of the greatest pictures in rock ‘n roll…maybe the greatest ever.” – BILL WYMAN, Rolling Stone

Grammy-nominated photographer, director, and author Ethan Russell was a fledgling writer in London when he shot to fame as one of the foremost rock and roll photographers in the world. To date, he is the only known rock photographer to have shot album covers for The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Who. Ethan’s managed to document a virtual who’s who in rock and roll history, and his show “Ethan Russell: The Best Seat in the House” is a wildly entertaining evening of reliving his experience of recording rock and roll history.

“Intellectual vaudeville” – The New York Times

“Brainy clowns!” – The Washington Post

William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged) is a comic misadventure that will feel strangely familiar yet excitingly new. In this “tale told by idiots,” the Company weaves all of The Bard’s famous characters, greatest lines, and magnificent speeches in a Shakespearean smorgasbord. Making its way to Laramie before opening at The New Victory Theatre in NYC in Spring 2018, this show is not to be missed!

The By & By and Sally & GeorgeNovember 17, 2017UW Presents and the Gryphon Theatre are honored to present Laramie alums, Shelby and Jacob Means, in their award-winning and nationally-known Americana/Bluegrass groups in the musical homecoming event of the fall. Jacob, returning with his trio, The By & By and Shelby, coming home with her duo, Sally & George, bring an evening of great music in the celebratory atmosphere of the Gryphon Theatre.

Peking AcrobatsFebruary 10, 2018“The Peking Acrobats [are] pushing the envelope of human possibility…Pure artistry!” – New York Post

With daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs, and arts the likes of trick-cycling, precision tumbling, juggling, somersaulting, and gymnastics, The Peking Acrobats have redefined audience perceptions of Chinese acrobatics for the last 31 years. Featured in numerous television shows and celebrity-studded TV specials, The Peking Acrobats have received international acclaim with their dazzling performances. The Peking Acrobats make their way to Laramie for one night, only, in a stunning display of acrobatics, artistic feats, and pure entertainment for the family.

“One of the Forty Most Creative Mexicans in the World” – Forbes

At the age of just fifteen, pianist Daniela Liebman has the distinction of being the youngest soloist in the history of Mexico to appear with a professional orchestra, which she did at just eight years old. Since that date, Daniela has performed over twenty five times, on four continents, with a dozen orchestras. Don’t miss your chance to see and hear this rising star in Laramie!

”It’s about as badass as highbrow gets.” – Rolling Stone | “…if this piano trio wants to play as loud as a rock band…well, let ‘em rip…these bad boys have the musicianship to back up their attitude.” – The New Yorker

The Bad Plus came together at the end of the 20th century and has avoided easy categorization ever since, winning critical hosannas and a legion of fans worldwide with their creativity, unique sound, and flair for live performance. Based in NYC, the intensely collaborative trio has constantly searched for rules to break and boundaries to cross, bridging genres and techniques. Except for its interpretation of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, the band’s last four albums focused almost exclusively on original compositions. “It’s Hard” marks the band’s return to the aspect of its roots that first made it famous: the deconstruction of songs from the Pop/Rock and R&B worlds.

The Show (in their own words):

“The world’s funniest improve show, featuring the brilliant comic stylings of Brad Sherwood and his addle-brained sidekick, Colin Mochrie. It is the longest running international improv show on planet earth, we think.” – Brad Sherwood

“An evening of interactive comedy with big belly laughs supplied by improve icon Colin Mochrie and eye candy for the visually impaired by Brad Sherwood. The most fun you can have with a theatre full of people that’s legal and doesn’t include washing up.” – Colin Mochrie

“…the ensemble’s unanimity of approach—vivid engagement carried by soaring, ripely Romantic playing—proved quite splendid.” – The Washington Post

Praised by the Strad for its “incredible ensemble, passionate playing, articulate and imaginative ideas and wide palette of colours,” the Lysander Piano Trio is a standout in competitions and performing. A winner of the Concert Artists Guild Competition and top honors at the 2010 Fischo National Chamber Music Competition, the Trio creates programs that mix the music of today with well-loved masterworks.
