The end of the year is upon us and as I watch and listen, I see that nearly everyone is busy work-
ing on our various committees. Your efforts in planning programs to serve our community are
impressive.
During the December club meeting, you will vote on the 2009 Founders Day and Trailblazer
honorees. Thank you to all those who kept their eyes and ears open during the last year; spotting
those who may be eligible for awards. I am always interested in the each year’s honorees. Your
willingness to honor the success of others in the community is the fulfillment of the dreams of our
founders. Even more importantly, the fact that any member I look at could easily be worthy of our
awards is even more a fulfillment of those who founded our association fifty five years ago.
At the end of a recent committee meeting, when the members dissolved into personal conversa-
tions, one member reminded us that we needed to remember to say “Be Strong”. I silently smiled
in recognition of our motto becoming incorporated as a sort of “benediction” for each of our
meetings.
“Be Strong” - two simple words that begin a motto; words that we shall never forget. We are
strong. We are strong not only because of the dreams of our founders, but also because of our
dedication, hard work, God-given talents, and faith.
As we enter the holy season of Christmas, I encourage you to remember a birth
announcement heralded by angels that began with two simple words of faith—”Fear Not”.
“Fear not! For behold I bring you good tidings of great joy. For unto you is born this day in the
City of David, a savior who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2: 10-11
I encourage you to be strong and fear not.
At your service,
Yvonne C. Emanuel President
Merry Christmas

Relax Your Muscles, Relax Your Mind
With all this rushing around to prepare for the holi-
days, here are some great exercises from Every-
dayhealth.com to help rellieve your stress.
The goal of this relaxation technique is to gently stretch your mus-
cles to reduce stiffness and tension. The exercises start at your
head and work down to your feet. You can do these exercises
while sitting in a chair.
Follow these steps:
Neck rolls Drop your head to one side. Gently roll it around in
a wide circle. Repeat three to five times. Then reverse direc-
tions, and gently roll your head in a wide circle the other way.
Repeat three to five times.
Shoulder shrugs Lift both shoulders in a shrugging motion.
Try to touch your ears with your shoulders. Let your shoulders
drop down after each shrug. Repeat three to five times.
Overhead arm stretches Raise both arms straight above your
head. Interlace your fingers, like you're making a basket, with
your palms facing down (towards the floor). Stretch your arms
towards the ceiling. Then, keeping your fingers interlaced,
rotate your palms to face upwards (towards the ceiling).
Stretch towards the ceiling. Repeat three to five times. If
you're not comfortable with your arms overhead, try the same
move with your arms reaching out in front of you.
Knee raises Reach down and grab your right knee with one or
both hands. Pull your knee up towards your chest (as close to
your chest as is comfortable). Hold your knee there for a few
seconds, before returning your foot to the floor. Reach down
and grab your left knee with one or both hands and bring it up
towards your chest. Hold it there for a few seconds. Repeat the
sequence three to five times.
Foot and ankle rolls Lift your feet and stretch your legs out.
Rotate your ankles and feet, three to five times in one direc-
tion, then three to five times in the other direction.
