Simple Present to express a habitual action, a general truth, or an action/condition occurring in the present time He cooks on Thanksgiving. Simple Future to express an action/condition that will occur in the future He is going to serve the turkey to his family. Past Progressive to express an action/condition that was ongoing in the past, especially when something else was happening or occurred He was cutting the turkey when the doorbell rang. Simple Past to express an action/condition that began and ended in the past He cooked the turkey for five hours. Present Perfect to express an action that has occurred up to and including the present time, a past action with current relevance, or an action that was recently completed He has prepared a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. Verb Tense Use Example
