Jaguar Journal August 31, 2017 DuJardin School - Home of the World’s Greatest Students THANKS to the DuJardin PTO for hosting such a wonderful Ice Cream Social last Friday evening. The weather was great, the event was well attended, and a great time was had by all (see the following photographs.) Special THANKS goes out to the PTO Board who sponsored this event, Cynthia Hunn, Melissa Johnson, Tina Piemonte, and Linda Korbel. THANK YOU to the many DuJardin staff members who gave their time to make this event a great evening of fun. Congratulations to Bloomingdale Police Chief, Frank Giammarese, DuJardin staff member, Jennifer Eggert and DuJardin student, Sophia Piemonte received a great honor and each was recognized by the District #13 School Board for being a community exemplar, district exemplar and a D13 student exemplar. This recognition took place at the August School Board meeting. NO DOGS AT ARRIVAL OR DISMISSAL Please refrain from bringing your dog on school grounds during arrival and dismissal, as we have children who are allergic to pets. And while I’m sure your dogs are wonderful with kids and people, we cannot predict how a dog will react when there are crowds of people and a lot of movement. There was a dog bite incident on school grounds a few years ago that was upsetting to all those involved. I would not want this unfortunate situation to happen to anyone again. Thank you so much for your cooperation. The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing will begin soon and will continue through September for all students, kindergarten through fifth grades. Teachers will be working with students concerning MAP results to set a literacy and math goal. Individual student goals will be determined by the results reported in the goal performance areas listed on the MAP results. The goal areas in reading include literature, informational text, and foundational skills and vocabulary. Math goal areas include operations and algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten, number and operations-fractions, measurement and data, and geometry. Individual student goals will help drive instruction during ELA (English and Language Arts) and math classes throughout the year. Student progress towards their goals will be monitored throughout the end of the first trimester and the beginning of trimester two and will then be measured during December’s winter MAP testing session. Overall student growth will then be measured by the MAP assessment in April and reported in the Annual Student Growth report. These individual student goals will be shared with parents by classroom teachers at the November parent-teacher conference. Check out more information about the MAP test at the website, www.nwea.org and if you have further questions about the MAP assessment ask your child’s teacher. . Principal’s Post...

Important Dates...

GRRRRRR all you DuJardin jaguars! Don’t forget to wear your spirit wear on Friday - the classroom with the greatest percentage

of students is always awarded!!!!

On Friday, September 22nd DuJardin will be having its annual Jog-A-Thon fundraiser. DuJardin students will be running a mile around the DuJardin Campus to raise funds for the school. They are going to need all the support they can get.

A link is attached for the Pledge option for Family and Friends. These funds help make PTO Activities like the Ice Cream Social possible. Please return with donations attached (in an envelope) with your child in their folder by 9/22/17. Multiple forms can be used!

The 2017-2018 Family Handbook is now online. Please take time to review the policies and procedures presented in the handbook and use it for reference throughout the school year. Mr. Dwyer or Mrs. Frattinger will visit the classrooms to discuss the contents of the handbook. A student and parent responsibility sheet will be sent home after the classroom discussion. This responsibility sheet should be reviewed and signed by both a parent and the student and then returned to school no later than Friday, September 15th.

Curriculum Night

Parents are invited to our Curriculum Night, which will be held in your child’s classroom on Thursday, September 14th from 6:30-7:15 and repeated from 7:30-8:15 p.m. Your child’s teacher will present an overview of the curriculum and grade level procedures to be covered this school year. Title I coordinator, Mrs. Karen Petelle, will be meeting with parents at 6:15, 7:15, or 8:15 to discuss the Title I program. These meetings will be hosted in the Literacy Room and invitations have been sent out to those parents of students involved in this program. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend one of these informational meetings. Please remember, this is a time for parents only. If you need child-care, the Bloomingdale Park District is offering a Kids Curriculum Night. Also, again this year parents will have the opportunity to sign up for conference times on-line. More information will follow in regards to this on-line procedure. Please plan to stop by and support the PTO sponsored Bake Sale that will be held in the lobby during Curriculum Night.

Kids Curriculum Night is all play and no work! The evening features age-appropriate activities, games, crafts, cartoons, free time and a snack for children while parents attend Curriculum Night. Parents may drop off and pick up their child(ren) anytime during the event. Pre-registration fee is only $7.00 per child. Drop-ins are accepted for a $10.00 fee. Please call the Park District at 630-529-3650.

Spirit Day is Friday, September 1

From Our School Nurse...Miss Moore

Physicals, immunizations, and eye exams for kindergarteners and students transferring from out of state were due on the first day of

school. Also, all kindergarteners and 2nd graders must have a current dental record on file. These health, eye, and dental records

should be given to DuJardin’s school nurse, Miss Moore. Parents of children for whom we do not have the proper physical and

immunization records will receive a letter indicating the area of deficiency. These deficiencies should be cleared up by October 13th.

Children for whom proper records are not on file will be excluded from school beginning on Friday, October 16, 2017.
