The labor of the Foundation stands out due to the integrality in its execution, given that the intervention is carried out starting as from the four areas of the basic rights: life and survival, protection, development and participation. The programs contemplate family care substitution, when these fail due to various reasons, education, health, nutrition, recreation and psycho social attention. Our priority to the children we take care of is still the reestablishment of those rights. To many of the graduates, today men and women, that carried out their process at the Niños de los Andes Foundation, having been formed there has many meanings. Their testimonies ratify the impact that the formation they received where for a long time was their home, left in their life:

Escape from the clutches of violence, delinquency,

prostitution and drug addiction.

Change of size and weight as all the children of their own

age, overcoming the effects of malnutrition.

Attended school and were trained in diverse arts and

trades which allowed them to be self sufficient.

Enjoyed healthy recreation, went to outings and had happy

Christmas with many presents.

Consolidation of their faith in God and were administered

the sacraments of Baptism and First Communion.

With lots of love, they cured their deep wounds in their

bodies and their souls.

Could live their childhood like children, away from child

labor and mendicancy.

Shared as a family with their friends creating a

brotherhood and sisterhood that still lasts.

Closely knew about new opportunities to relate and

develop in their permanent contact with the volunteers and the benefactors.

Some of them acceded to cultural exchanges and built

strong ties with their host families in France, Canada, and United States.

Through Papa Jaime they learnt to forgive a many times

indolent society, and parents who many times ill-treated them.

And what is more important, at his side they learnt to

dream and to fight in order to have their illusions become true.

Nowadays and, seeing them with their new families, we

have been able to prove that at the end of their process, they could break the ill treatment pattern and their biggest pride and worry are their own children.

Street Work with The Rescue Patrols Two times a week we carry out day and nighttime visits to the localities identified as critical and with a more vulnerable population at risk, after a reconnaissance carried out by social work. We take care of boys, girls and adults and we inform them about the social support groups. Our aim is that after an accompaniment period of one year, these groups will be self-sufficient. Our health professionals, doctors, and rural dental surgeons, take care of these communities as outpatients.

Emergency Centers Casacorazones y Albachiara This Program is carried out at the homes Casacorazones and Albachiara in Bogotá. We offer immediate integral attention to 70 children and adolescent children that have been found in the streets with problems of consumption of psychoactive substances, ill treatment, abandonment, commercial sexual exploitation, and links to worst work manners of child work amongst other problematic. After a joint interdisciplinary diagnose with the ICBF defenders they are referred to specialized programs depending on the problematic identified.

Protection for children at risk St.Patrick and Manizales Branch The protection programs are developed at the St. Patrick home, in Bogota and Girasoles in Manizales. They are programs of homes were around 120 boys and girls count with all the essential services for their development: housing, nutrition, health, recreation and education. Specialized Boarding Attention Nuevo Amanecer home It is a protection home to take in as family groups of brothers between 7 and 18 years of age that have been victims of neglect or whose rights have been violated. They stay there until we find families willing to give them a new opportunity through an adoption process, or if that is not the case, we will take them in this house until they reach legal age. The aim of the program is to guarantee them their full and peaceful development so that they can grow up in the heart of the family and the community, in an environment of happiness, love and comprehension. It operates in a country home in the outskirts of Bogota.

Follow-up to the Social Inclusion We currently attend close to 2500 that have passed through our programs and who have access to all the services of the Foundation, in health labor and academic links, legal support, economic support in case they do no longer have a job. The ample experience we have acquired in more than 25 years, has shown us that the real social inclusion of a young man or a young woman that has passed through the different phases of the program, comes true only from the moment in which he or she achieves an adequate labor placement with the law guarantees that will allow them to live in dignity.

Program with street inhabitant’s citizen Through an agreement between IDIGER (Risk Management

Institute), SECRETARIA DE INTEGRACION SOCIAL (Official

district Entity) and FUNDACION NIÑOS DE LOS ANDES, we

are working to promote the social inclusion as environmental recyclers of the street’s inhabitants exposed to risks for being living in the water canals of the city. The goal is to protect their integrity, strengthen their life projects and improve their socioeconomic conditions by generating income, while they work to recover the city canals.

In spite of the normal difficulties that getting enough financial resources implies, we have been able to distribute the income of the Foundation in the best possible manner to cover all the expenses caused by the different programs. The international contributions have decreased considerably, but with the contribution from the state and the profits from our institutional collection campaigns, we have achieved the breakeven point.

Needs Challenges

In order to fulfill our growing plans for this year, the needs are centered in the permanent adaptation, supply, maintenance and improvement of the educational, workshops and living areas in the five houses were the programs are operated.

We need urgently one bus to transport the Nuevo Amanecer children’s to school. They have to go to tree different schools not very close.

Nuevo Amanecer is located at the countryside and due to the rain, it is urgent that we install floor mats for all the classrooms, bedrooms and kitchen.

To come to an end the adaptation of the spaces for the body, mind and spirit workshops, used for the children’s BEING development.

We also have to insure the funds to pay salaries and social benefits of the professional personnel to conform the technical teams for the attention of the children in the new homes: Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, teachers, professors, workshop leaders, rural doctors and dentists.

And what is more important is to get the necessary funds to guarantee the quality of the services offered to the children we attend.

We are sure that with your usual support we are going to achieve it.

Our dream is that all those children, girls and young that is benefit of the services of the Foundation, learn to think positively, to crystallize their dreams, to love without conditioning and to forgive and serve lovingly. To get it we have posed the following challenges for the year 2016:

To strengthen the technical competencies of the staff and training them in the daily management of the BEING methodology tools, so they can be able to offer a loving quality services to the children.

Continue shaping the Dream Factory project that aims to ensure that children strengthen their potential and personal resources, and this allows them to continue in the construction of their life projects.

Implement recreational strategies to strengthen the five axes of street work: Discouraging child labor, prevention of use of SPA, prevention of abuse and ill-treatment, prevention of early maternity/paternity leave, and linking them to criminal offences.

Generate new fundraising strategies to sponsor the programs and to guide strategically the resources from donations to the continuous improvement of processes and programs.
