Every day families walk through the doors of Merrymount and they are welcomed by a warm smile and a helping hand. By providing 24 hour care and innovative services, Merry-mount serves over 7000 families each year who are experiencing a crisis or transition. We continue to serve our community by providing a place of growth. We give people hope but we also give them the “will” and the “way” (motivation and tools) to help themselves and their families’ build on their own strengths. This has been an exciting yet sometimes uncertain year. With the announcement of the transformation of Children’s Mental Health in Ontario, Merrymount is working closely with government partners as well as community partners as we navigate this process. We have spent time reminding ourselves of what we do best and recommitting ourselves to providing the services that best fit our mission. We are very thrilled to be leading a new program - Families and Infants Together (FIT) - a collaborative partnership between Merrymount, Vanier, YOU and CAS that targets families with infants from 0- 2 years. Thank you to our Community Partners

for working with us and providing op-portunities that will benefit our fami-lies.A special congratulations to a very special person who “lives and breathes Merrymount”. Ailene was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal this past February, honouring her extraordinary leadership and caring for the families in need in our community. To the staff at Merrymount, thank you for your passion, energy and tireless work that fills our families with hope and strength. To each of you who touch the lives of our families, your compas-sion and commitment are so appreciated. To our management team, thank you for your vision and leadership and finally thank you to our fund development team who surpassed their goals this past year. With your efforts Merrymount continues to be able to provide the services that make us a special place in our community. Thank you also to all of our volunteers, donors and friends. As we enter our 140th year, it’s a perfect opportunity to remind our extended Merrymount family of where we have been and where we are. Every year, we are privileged to work with a visionary Board wrapped around our organization, a dedicated group of individuals that guides our growth, and anchors us to our mission. When the Merrymount Children’s Home changed from an orphanage to a Family Support and Crisis Centre in the late 1970s; the Board at that time reviewed every child’s record that had grown up at the orphanage. They found that the majority of children did have family or extended family. We realized then that if those families had been supported during their times of crisis or transition, the majority of those children would not have been raised in an orphanage. As a result, that visionary board retained the ability for Merrymount to provide care for children twenty-four hours a day. That decision continues to shape the range of services that we provide today.I want to take this opportunity to thank our Boards of Directors, our Staff, and our Community for helping us again to examine what Merrymount is doing now and what the families of London need us to continue to do in the future. This year, we were honoured to be brought to tables by our community partners when they felt that our presence was missing and our leadership was needed. After many hours of discussions and debates and problem solving, our Boards and Staff are ready to continue helping families stay together. For the past 139 years, we have witnessed that almost all families need help at some time. However, even at the most difficult times, every family demonstrates that it still has its own strengths. As we enter our 140th year, we are committed to further strengthening these families in our community, continuing to help children by supporting their families in times of crisis and transition.
