Greetings ECSU Alumni and Friends,
Welcome to Homecoming 2015 – Viking Pride @ the “E”!
This year we want to showcase our Viking pride with enhanced vigor
and spirit.
Just over a month ago, we welcomed a cohort of energetic and spirited
freshmen - the Class of 2019. As you know from your own time on our
illustrious campus, these are the formative years for our students. Every
moment, interaction, and conversation can make a lasting impression on
their ECSU experience. Faculty members are imparting knowledge in the
classroom, peers are building lasting friendships, and staff is working to
ensure a well–rounded student experience. But, it is you, our alumni, whose Viking pride and generous
spirit exemplify what it means to be an ECSU graduate.
Vikings, I am proud of the great strides we’ve made during our first year on our Path to
Prominence. Our campus is lined with new flags highlighting our ECSU pride, our new cohort
enrollment has increased, and our academic initiatives are helping us to reach our goal of becoming
North Carolina’s premier interdisciplinary science university. In fact, for the fourth consecutive year,
we were ranked first on Washington Monthly’s list of ‘Best Baccalaureate Colleges.’
So, I look forward to welcoming you this week to celebrate our achievements together
and all that is to come! Let’s make our voices heard at Roebuck Stadium to cheer our Mighty
Vikings to a victory on the gridiron!
Sincerely,
Stacey Franklin Jones
Chancellor

Greetings ECSU Alumni and Friends,
On behalf of the ECSU NAA, Incorporated, I extend a hearty welcome to
all alumni and friends who are visiting ECSU for a homecoming week of
celebration and fun. Whether you are here for a reunion or just to participate
in the festive events planned for your enjoyment, we promise there is
something for everyone including the Mr. Alumni Coronation, honoring this
year’s winner, Nathaniel Grant, Jr. (‘68); the Alumni Icebreaker, showcasing
Ra Jazz Band, DJ Heart Attack, and Comedians Cletus Kassidy and Quincy
Carr; the Saturday Night Cabaret, featuring a Dynasty Five party that will
be beyond expectations.
The main attraction, however, will be the gridiron battle between the Lincoln University Lions and ECSU
Vikings. With Viking Pride exemplified, a Mighty Vikings victory is inevitable.
We will end our activities on Sunday with a prayer breakfast, which will include the soul-stirring music of
the Alumni Choir and an inspirational message that will truly lift your spirits. Don’t miss it!
Enjoy the weekend! Remember to stay connected, be involved, and give back.
With Viking pride,

Homecoming 2015 Safety TipsHomecoming is a great and memorable time for the Elizabeth City State University Community. To help you enjoy the Viking Pride Spirit of Homecoming, here are some safety tips for you, your friends and your family members.
Personal Safety
1. Wear comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing. With limited parking, walking is the preferred way to get to most of the events on campus.2. If in a group, have a designated meeting point or a re-unification plan in case of emergency.3. If you intend to consume alcohol and can legally do so (age 21+ and at a permitted event), make sure you have a designated driver and a way to safely return home.4. Use the “Buddy System.” When with friends at a party or event, agree to watch out for each other and leave the event together.5. Always avoid walking alone in isolated areas, such as parking lots and taking shortcuts.6. Be aware of what is going on around you at all times. If you suspect you are being followed, indicate your suspicion by looking behind you. Change your direction or vary your speed. Call University Police from your cell phone. Do not confront anyone following you.7. If confronted by someone trying to victimize you, try to obtain a good physical description of the subject to give to the police.
Property Safety
1. Keep personal identification and credit cards to a minimum on your person.2. Always secure your residence hall doors and windows. Do not prop doors open or leave unlocked for any period of time.3. Do not allow unauthorized persons to enter into residence halls behind you. Report unauthorized visitors immediately to the residence hall officials and University Police.4. Secure all valuables in the trunk of vehicles, not in the visible passenger area of the vehicle.
