For your safetyTo prevent severe injury and loss of life/property, read this section carefully beforeusing the product to ensure proper and safeoperation of your product.
WARNING
Power connectionR Use only the power source marked on the
product.R Do not overload power outlets and
extension cords. This can result in the riskof fire or electric shock.
R Completely insert the AC adaptor/powerplug into the power outlet. Failure to do somay cause electric shock and/or excessiveheat resulting in a fire.
R Regularly remove any dust, etc. from theAC adaptor/power plug by pulling it fromthe power outlet, then wiping with a drycloth. Accumulated dust may cause aninsulation defect from moisture, etc.resulting in a fire.
R Unplug the product from power outlets if itemits smoke, an abnormal smell, or makesan unusual noise. These conditions cancause fire or electric shock. Confirm thatsmoke has stopped emitting and contact anauthorised service centre.
R Unplug from power outlets and never touchthe inside of the product if its casing hasbeen broken open.

R Do not place a handset on the base unitwith the headset jack cover opened.

R This product is unable to make calls when:– the handset batteries need recharging or

R Do not mix old and new batteries.R Do not open or mutilate the batteries.

Note for connectionsR The AC adaptor must remain connected at
all times. (It is normal for the adaptor to feelwarm during use.)
R The AC adaptor should be connected to avertically oriented or floor-mounted ACoutlet. Do not connect the AC adaptor to ahorizontally oriented AC outlet that facesthe floor, such as an AC outlet installed ona ceiling or under a table, as the weight ofthe adaptor may cause it to becomedisconnected.
Power failureR The unit cannot be used to make or receive
calls during a power failure. Werecommend connecting a corded-typetelephone that does not use an AC adaptorto your telephone line.
Note for battery installationR Use the supplied rechargeable batteries.
For replacement, we recommend using thePanasonic rechargeable batteries noted onpage 4, 8.
Note for battery chargingR It is normal for the handset to feel warm

Making calls1 Lift the handset and then dial the phone
number.R To correct a digit, press MCLEARN.

the answering system– when talking on an outside callOnce a phone number has been added to thecall block list, the unit will block calls from thatphone number in the future.1 Press MCALL BLOCKN under the
situations shown above.2 Confirm the call block number and press

Storing unwanted callersThe unit can block calls by storing the desireditems in the call block list beforehand (CallerID subscribers only).– “Single Number”: The unit blocks calls

– “Range of Numbers”: The unit blockscalls that begin with a number stored in thecall block list, such as a toll-free phonenumber prefix or certain area codes.
– “Withheld”: The unit blocks calls thathave no phone number.
However, this option may not be available inthe following situations:– If the caller dials from an area which does
not provide a Caller ID service.
– International calls.Single phone numbers and ranges of numberscan be stored in the call block list up to 1000items in total.

Nuisance Call Block
Automated call blockAutomated call block means the unit screensincoming calls before ringing. If the call isallowed, the unit will ring. If the call is identifiedas an automated/telemarketing call, the unitwill not ring.The unit will play a greeting message to thecaller and prompt them to enter an accesscode.This enables the unit to identify whether thecall is automated. You can set the unit to blockor unblock mode. The default setting is“Unblock”.Note:R The unit connects the call without
prompting to enter access code in thefollowing situations:– the caller’s phone number matches an
entry in the phonebook (page 25).– the caller’s name matches an entry in
the allow name list (page 23).– the caller’s phone number is memorised
in the allowed number database(page 22).

that you test this feature and adjust thebaby monitor sensitivity as needed,especially if you plan to monitor fromoutside.
R This feature should not be used as asubstitute for a medical or caregiver’ssupervision. It is the caregiver’s

Caller ID featuresWhen an outside call is being received, thecaller information is displayed.Caller information for the last 50 callers islogged in the caller list from the most recentcall to the oldest.R If the unit cannot receive caller information,
the following is displayed:– “Out of Area”: The caller dials from

Missed callsIf a call is not answered, the unit treats it as amissed call and is displayed. Voicemail serviceIn addition to your unit’s answering system you may also have voicemail service fromyour phone service provider. Voicemail is an answering service that may be offered by yourphone service provider. This service can also record calls when you are unavailable to answerthe phone or when your line is busy. Messages are recorded on the phone company system andnot on the unit’s answering system.R To use the voicemail service rather than the units answering system, turn off the answering
system (page 43).If you have unit’s answering system set to on and also the voicemail enabled, the system withleast amount of rings will record the message first.Example:If the unit’s answering system is set to 4 rings (page 48) and the voicemail answering systemprovided by your phone company is set to 6 rings (call your service provider), the unit’sanswering system will record the incoming call first.When you have new messages, is displayed on the handset if message indication service isavailable. Character entryThe dial keys are used to enter characters and numbers. Each dial key has multiple charactersassigned to it. The characters that can be entered depend on the character entry mode(page 49).– Press MFN or MEN to move the cursor left or right.– Press dial keys to enter characters and numbers.– Press MCLEARN to erase the character or number highlighted by the cursor. Press and holdMCLEARN to erase all characters or numbers.
