Operating safeguardsR Before opening the cover,

disconnect the product from thepower outlet and from the connecteddevice.

R Before cleaning, disconnect theproduct from the power outlet andfrom the connected device, and thenremove the battery. Do not useliquid or aerosol cleansers whencleaning.

R Do not disassemble the product.R Never put metal objects inside the

product. If metal objects enter theproduct, turn off the circuit breakerand contact an authorised servicecentre.

MedicalR Consult the manufacturer of any

personal medical devices, such aspacemakers or hearing aids, todetermine if they are adequatelyshielded from external RF (radiofrequency) energy. DECT featuresoperate between 1.88 GHz and1.90 GHz with a peak transmissionpower of 250 mW.

R Do not use the product in healthcare facilities if any regulationsposted in the area instruct you not todo so. Hospitals or health carefacilities may be using equipmentthat could be sensitive to externalRF energy.

Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) batteryR Do not open, puncture, crush, or

drop the battery. A damaged batterymust not be used. This can result inthe risk of fire, explosion,overheating, and leaking of theelectrolyte.

R Do not touch the terminals and with metal objects.

R Risk of explosion if battery isreplaced by an incorrect type.Dispose of used battery according tolocal regulations.

R If any electrolyte should come intocontact with your hands or clothes,wash it off thoroughly with water.

R If any electrolyte should come intocontact with your eyes, never rubyour eyes. Rinse your eyesthoroughly with water, and thenconsult a doctor.

CAUTIONInstallation and locationR Never install wiring during a lightning

storm.R The AC adaptor is used as the main

disconnect device. Ensure that theAC outlet is installed near theproduct and is easily accessible.

R To avoid the risk of strangulation,keep the product and the ACadaptor cord at least 1 m from achild’s crib and out of the reach ofsmall children.

Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) batteryR Use only the specified battery.R Insert the battery correctly.R Do not leave the battery in an

automobile exposed to directsunlight for a long period of time withthe doors and windows closed.

R Remove the battery if you do notuse the product for a long period oftime. Keep it in a cool, dark area.

R Do not replace a battery with wethands.

R Stop using the battery immediatelyand keep away from fire if it emits anabnormal smell or leaks electrolyte.Released electrolyte may cause fireor burns.

R Exercise care when handling thebatteries. Do not allow conductivematerials such as rings, bracelets, orkeys to touch the batteries,otherwise a short circuit may causethe batteries and/or the conductivematerial to overheat and causeburns.

R Do not put any conductive materialssuch as coins or hairpins onto the

R The product should be kept freefrom excessive smoke, dust, hightemperature, and vibration.

R The product should not be exposedto direct sunlight.

R Do not place heavy objects on top ofthe product.

R The product should be kept awayfrom heat sources such as radiators,cookers, etc. It should not be placedin rooms where the temperature isless than 5 °C or greater than 40 °C.Damp basements should also beavoided.

General informationabout the backupbatteryThe backup battery can provide powerto your Home Network System devices(one device per backup battery),allowing your devices to continue tooperate in the event of a power outage.Instead of connecting an AC adaptor toyour hub, camera, etc., the backupbattery is connected to your device andis also connected to the power outlet.During normal operation, the backupbattery uses power from the poweroutlet to charge the battery and tosupply power to the connected device.In the event of a power outage, thedevice is powered by the backupbattery only.

You can register the backup batteryto the hub and take advantage ofother features, but note that thebackup battery does not need to beregistered in order for it to supplypower to the connected device in theevent of a power outage.

Backup battery performanceWhen the supplied battery is installedin the backup battery, you can expectthe following operating time in theevent of a power outage.

Power outagenotification by phoneIn the event of a power outage, thebackup battery can trigger the hub tocall a pre-programmed phone numberand notify you of the power outage. Inorder to use this feature, the followingitems are required.– The hub must be connected to your

landline (refer to the System SetupGuide included with the hub).

– The backup battery must beregistered to the hub (page 14).

– You must use the [Home Network]app to program the phone numberthat will be called in the event of apower outage. For more information,refer to the User’s Guide(page 15).

– The hub must be able to make callsusing your landline even if there is apower outage. If your landline phoneservice requires a modem or otherdevice to make phone calls (typicallythis is the case for landline phone

service provided by cable company,Internet service provider, VoIPservice provider, etc.), and if thatdevice does not contain its ownbackup battery, the hub will not beable to make calls in the event of apower outage.

Power outagenotification to yourmobile deviceIn the event of a power outage, thebackup battery can trigger the hub tosend a notification to the [HomeNetwork] app. In order to use thisfeature, the following items arerequired.– The backup battery must be

registered to the hub (page 14).– You must use the [Home Network]

app to enable the desirednotifications. For more information,refer to the User’s Guide(page 15).

– To receive power outagenotifications, the hub must be able toaccess the Internet even if there is apower outage. This means that yourwireless router and any otherdevices that are used whenaccessing the Internet (cablemodem, network hubs, etc.) mustalso have their own backup powersupplies*1, otherwise the hub cannotsend notifications to the [HomeNetwork] app in the event of apower outage.

*1 The KX-HNP100 Backup Batterycannot supply power to thesedevices. A third-party backuppower supply is required.

WirelesscommunicationrangeThe wireless communication range ofeach device in the system from the hubis approximately 50 m indoors andapproximately 300 m outdoors.Wireless communication may beunreliable when the following obstaclesare located between the hub and otherdevices.– Metal doors or screens– Walls containing aluminum-sheet

insulation– Walls made of concrete or

corrugated iron– Double-pane glass windows– Multiple walls– When using each device on

separate floors or in differentbuildings

Note:R The LED indicator lights in red if it is

out of range of the hub. In this case,confirm all connections, includingthose of the hub.

Insert the backup battery’s DC plug firmly into the device’s DC jack, DC cableplug, or DC extension cord.Insert the DC plug completely. (This example illustration applies to theKX-HNB600 and KX-HNC200.)Connect the AC adaptor plug to the backup battery.Secure the AC adaptor cord by wrapping it around the hook.Connect the AC adaptor to the power outlet.

to feel warm during use.)R The AC adaptor should be connected to a vertically oriented or floor-mounted

AC outlet. Do not connect the AC adaptor to a ceiling-mounted AC outlet, as theweight of the adaptor may cause it to become disconnected.

Registering thebackup batteryThis procedure is not required fordevices that were included as part ofa bundle.

Register each of your backup batteriesto the hub if you want to receivenotifications in the event of a poweroutage.

You can register each device by usingthe registration buttons or the [HomeNetwork] app.

Using registration buttons1 Hub:

Press and hold M OTHERDEVICEN until the LED indicatorblinks slowly in green.

2 Backup battery:Press and hold M N until theLED indicator blinks slowly ingreen (page 10).R When registration is complete,

the hub sounds one long beep.Note:R To cancel without registering the

backup battery, press M N on thehub and on the backup battery again.

R If registration fails, the hub soundsseveral short beeps.

Using the appWhen you register the backup batteryby using the [Home Network] app, youcan assign a name to the backupbattery and turn its power outagenotification feature on and off. For moreinformation, refer to the User’s Guide(page 15).
