The stats are in, and the number of bookings increased 43% from 2016. We are so pleased to see this significant increase in parental engagement. Thankyou! This is encouraging for us as the more we are partners in your child’s learning the more chance of success they will have. You may have seen in the news this week the government’s pledge to launch a digital technology curriculum in the near future. The consultation document for this has been released and we are preparing a school submission as we believe this is a step in the right direction to prepare our children for the future. It is however so important that this is implemented well, with foresight and appropriate resource which has not always been the case with such initiatives. The proposed model is to add digital technology as an underlying theme within the current technology curriculum as opposed to what I believe to be a more comprehensive approach by integration across all subject areas or as a key cross curricular theme. It is also important to note a lack of any content around staying safe online or maintaining a positive digital footprint which seems to be an opportunity lost. If this is something you feel passionate about please feel free to submit your thoughts using the link below before the 31st August. https://education.govt.nz/ministry-of-education/ consultations-and-reviews/digital-technology-consultation/ Good luck over the coming holidays with our Area Schools’ team heading to Whangarei, the film club jetting off to Wellington, the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze participants heading out for their final expedition and the junior Netball team heading to Christchurch for the South Island Champs. Thanks to the staff and parents who are taking these trips and make this possible. I would also like to acknowledge the parents who have been driving the basketball team to competition every Friday night and on a similar note our PTA in conjunction with Rotherham School PTA are running a Rogaine event fundraiser this weekend with (as of today) 393 competitors. A truly staggering turnout for their first event of this kind. We say farewell to our ACVE volunteer Aline this week as she heads off on her travels on the slow route home. Aline has been an outstanding member of our team for the last 6 months and we will truly miss her and wish her all the best for the future. Good luck over the coming holidays with our Area Schools’ team heading to Whangarei, the film club jetting off to Wellington, the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze participants heading out for their final expedition and the junior Netball team heading to Christchurch for the South Island Champs.

Thanks to the staff and parents who are taking these trips and make this possible.

Primary School NewsDear Parents and Whanau

Work is progressing on our new classrooms but unfortunately not quickly enough for us to go ahead with moving in to start T3. We will work on a new date when the new term starts and be in touch with you regarding moving arrangements. All classes in Year 1-6 will stay where they currently are for the start of Term 3.

It was great to see so many parents here for our Year 4-8 interviews and the teachers have been telling me how much they enjoyed meeting up with you to discuss your child’s progress. We are always available to discuss any queries you may have, please phone Lucy in advance to make an appointment, to check that we are free. We do have some afternoons where we have meetings.

Next term, Year 1-6 are completing a Science topic based on the Living World strand of the curriculum. Pet Day is set down for Wednesday 9th of September with a postponement date of the 10th of September. We will be meeting to finalise arrangements early next term and we will be sending home information around this.

In Week 1, Year 7 and 8 will be running the canteen as part of their fundraising for Year 8 camp. The order forms have been sent home and need to be back at school on the first day of Term 3. Please help us support them in their fundraising efforts.

Wishing you all safe and happy holidays with your children! We look forward to seeing you back for the start of Term 3 on Monday the 24th of July.

Windy Point Outdoor Education Facility

On the 1st July this year the 27 year lease on the land where this property resides in the Lewis Pass expired. The Board of Trustees have applied to the current landowner for an extension of this lease and this is currently under review in the coming weeks.

We know there was a significant amount of community effort and support in establishing this facility and believe it is important to let our community know that this process is underway.

Regardless of the outcome of the review we are eternally grateful to the past and present owners and wardens of the land for their patronage and support over the past 27 years.

Many of our students’ most treasured memories have been formed at this facility and this would not be possible without the generosity we have been shown to date.

We will keep you updated on developments as they arise.
