Digitally Transforming to Soar Higher Together.“Banking is no longer somewhere you go, it’s something you do.”

    – Brett King, CEO/Founder of Moven and 2018 AXFI Opening Keynote

Digital transformation has unfortunately become a loosely defined term associated with projects refreshing the website or implementing a new mobile banking app. Digital transformation is about business strategy, it is about re-inventing the credit union business model in the way that companies like Delta Airlines and Domino’s Pizza have by leveraging technology and data to transform their business models and thus elevate their customer journeys to stratospheric levels. It means shifting your company culture to take advantage of your data to make informed data-driven decisions and stay ahead of the ever-changing expectations of your members or customers. Credit unions are not only competing against big banks and the thousands of fintech startups disrupting the traditional business model, but they are competing with the high-tech/high-touch experiences provided by dozens of other companies that members are interacting with every day.

Digital transformation does not come in a box; it is a process and a journey credit unions cannot afford to wait on. At the same time, digital transformation represents incredible opportunities for credit unions. Credit unions,

right now, must begin by building and acting on a digital transformation strategy that is supported by a solid foundation of technology and analytics. As a movement, credit unions can collaborate and grow together through data analytics and technology innovation to provide compelling member journeys that keep people coming back.

Credit unions today are aware that data analytics, innovation, and cyber security are critical to the success of financial institutions and the credit union movement as a whole. However, great questions remain regarding what to do and how to do it. The AXFI Conference consistently serves as a forum for credit union professionals, industry experts, application developers and data scientists to come together and discuss challenges, successes, solutions, best practices, and more. The 5th Annual AXFI Conference addresses not only the growing need to make analytics, innovation, and security top priorities for credit unions, but also provides tangible examples and hands-on workshops in each track so credit union employees can walk away from the conference with a deeper understanding of how to move forward and achieve organizational goals. Join peers in highly interactive sessions designed to showcase digital strategies, analytic skills, and innovative opportunities.

Four years ago, we made the commitment to form a conference focused purely on creating a place where great minds focused on analytics and innovation could be brought together to figure out solutions to the great and ever-changing problems facing our industry. What started four years ago with 28 people has now grown more than ten-fold. A movement has started to re-invent this industry by collaborating on analytics and innovation, and we are so pleased that you have decided to join us.

    Welcome to AXFI 2018.

Brad holds a BS in Foreign Service cum laude from Georgetown University (hoya saxa!). He and his wife Tonia live in Vienna, VA with their two sons and daughter. 8:30 AM Keynote: Bank 4.0 — Banking Everywhere, But Not at a Bank // Brett King, Founder/CEO, Moven

The banking system of tomorrow is being built from first principles today — in the same way Elon Musk built SpaceX and Steve Jobs designed the iPhone. Just ask yourself, if we were building the banking system today, from scratch with all the technology and knowledge we have, would you end up with bank branches that require a signature on a piece of paper before issuing you a passbook or a checkbook? No way. Bank 4.0 is about the banking system that we’re building today and why most banks won’t survive to see that day.

Moving from “Request and Fulfill” to enabling self-service analytics in your organization can be both challenging and rewarding. PSCU’s analytic leaders will present some tried and true practices for leveraging a standardized data platform to drive user skills and enthusiasm for creating their own reporting and analytics. The presentation will include examples of how fostering collaboration among users, partners, and other stakeholders can take your organization’s analytics efforts to the next level.

Elizabeth Robins, Product Director, Best Innovation Group

Voice interaction, once a source of frustration for many users, has improved so dramatically in the last decade that voice authentication systems now rival other biometric modes in accuracy. Voice controls for simple devices will soon evolve into the only control mechanism for complex systems like automobiles. Can a voice-controlled user interface for tellers be far off? While conversation is a natural process for humans, we often struggle when developing the interaction styles for these systems and teaching an AI how to understand and communicate about complex tasks and ideas is as much art as science. Join the conversation as we explore how voice and artificial intelligence are poised to change everything about how you interact with the world.

Bob Miles, Managing Director, Information Security Practice Group, Ongoing Operations

In today’s world of cyber attacks and data breaches, it is important to understand the goals and motivations of attackers as well as how attacks happen. Every day, businesses are at risk of becoming victim to data breaches — and these breaches continue to happen because organizations do not have the tools to discover the data which exposes security threats, unprotected data at rest and insider access to unprotected data. Businesses recognize the importance of security, but they often don’t realize the urgency until they see something tangible. There are tools to make it more concrete by assigning real dollars to your data sensitivity, building a strong case for data protection and triaging the most important problems to tackle.

1:00 PM Keynote: The Platformification of Analytics // Ron Shevlin, Director Of Research, Cornerstone Advisors

The term “platform” gets used liberally in the world of banking, with seemingly every tech vendor offering what it thinks is a platform. What is new about platforms is its development over the past few years as an emerging business model. A new breed of vendors is emerging—platform service providers—who will change how banks and credit unions purchase and deploy technology. The analytics ecosystem is ripe for this kind of platformification. This session with Cornerstone Advisors Director of Research Ron Shevlin will look into the platformification of banking, and how the trend will impact the analytics capabilities of credit unions over the next 10 years.

Cyber Security — A Panel Discussion

Michael Bryan, Vice President, Digital Strategy, Allied Solutions; Keith Richmond, Director of Client Reporting & Analytics, Affinion Insurance Solutions

Consumer expectations evolve quickly and competition is coming from new players every day. Technology, retail, and healthcare industry winners leverage the power of digital and data to transform their business. Financial services firms have this same op-portunity to harness Big Data and “one data language” to increase profitable member relationships, reduce risk, decrease costs, and deliver bottom line results.

Moving from rear view mirror analysis of past results to a forward looking predic-tive assessment of risks and opportunities requires more data than one Credit Union can accumulate. Exponentially expanding access to quality actionable data is the power of Collaborative Analytics.

In the rapidly changing world of cyber-security, there remains a constant – the devil is in the details. From ports and protocols, to access control lists and authenticators, the volume of valuable data grows by terabytes a day. But with a low signal-to-noise ratio, how do we unlock that value? Through automated analysis of those myriad details, we can hope to gain big-picture insights into our organization’s performance across the entire security spectrum. Our goal is to narrow your focus to those analyses we’ve found to be most valuable in turning data derived from today’s detective controls into tomorrow’s preventive controls.

The conventional wisdom is that digital transformation is key to staying competitive in a banking marketplace where the rules and consumers’ expectations keep changing. There will come a time when the digital playing field will be even – everyone will have sufficient digital capabilities, or they simply won’t be “in the game.” The more fundamental question is: What is the endgame you are driving toward? Today, most of our critical systems are inter-connected and driven by computers. In the future, this connection will be even tighter. Virtually all of our personal data will reside in cloud computing, where we don’t fully control the data flow and access to information.

In the coming years, nation sponsored organi-zations will continue to develop cyber-attack technologies for defense and offense; finan-cially driven criminal groups will continue to seek ways to monetize cyber-attacks; hacktiv-ists will continue to use cyber to convey their messages; terrorist groups will also shift to cyber space. “We’ve always believed that physical presence is core to the human experience, and that face-to-face builds on empathy and human emotions — so how then can we scale that impact from 6% to 100%?” That was the question asked by the ANA Avatar team, led by American scientist Dr. Harry Kloor. We needed to change our mindset. Who are we? What’s our actual mission? Dr. Kloor’s mission is to connect people with the world. We started with helicopters, but could we cross time, distance and culture with something else? What if there was a future where avatars allow people’s consciousness to be transported instantaneously across the globe and beyond, that means impacting all 7.5 billion people on earth.
