Market Evolutions & Expected Benefits for Naval

MARKET EVOLUTIONS Maintenance and after-sales support are extremely important for Thales. Contracts with

customers do not only cover the delivery of the radar system itself, but also include arrangements for after-sales support services.

BENEFITSBenefits are expected by joint integrated participation of Thales design departments and

Services with a consortium of industrial partners and knowledge institution(s) on the interface to defense industry

Application of modern and innovative technologies can make after sales more competitive by reducing costs and lead-times.

Radar system design using new technologies like 3D printing can influences services beneficially.

Expected applications: temporary spare parts, tooling, modifications, obsolescence Thales products are characterized by small series, reuse of components is encouraged. Compared to molded parts, printed parts offer more flexibility in the future when stocks run

out. Simplification of the (on-site) local production. (Contractual obligations) Cost reduction and time saving on transportation. (customs!)

Major points of attention & risks

POINTS OF ATTENTION Certification, Qualification and Verification Accreditation Protection of Intellectual Property rights Business model Quality of new technologies like 3D printing

Is it useful to use the new technology on location Is it possible to use the new technology on location What materials/resolution can be applied Logistics: the amount and type of raw material needed

Export control issues?

RISKS Intellectual Property leak Safety risks

Microwave radiation leaks when the wrong material are used Failure in critical parts of the system

Warranty conflicts when alternative printed parts have been used
