Red is said to symbolize the blood of life, white the purity of the Buddhist faith, and blue the monarchy. The blue and white stripes were added to the flag during World War I.

RELIGIONSome of the religions in Thailand are Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Muslim, Sikhism and Buddhism. Buddhism first

appeared in Thailand during the 3rd century B.C. Buddhism teaches that one's life does not begin with birth and end with

death but is a link in a chain of lives. Muslims comprise Thailand's largest religious minority. Thai Muslims are Malay descent. Muslims celebrate when its Prophet Muhammad's

birthday. Christianity was introduced to Thailand by European missionaries in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Hindus and Sikhs are mainly concentrated in Bangkok. The

approximately 20,000 Indians residing in Thailand are almost equally divided between Hindus and Sikhs.

GOVERNMENTThailand’s government describe themself as moving towards democracy. Thailand has a Parliament House

and a Prime Minister. The Council meets in the Parliament House with the leadership of the Prime

Minister. The Thailand government have tried to have an democratic election but that has been hard to

achieve. Thaksin Shinawatra is currently Thailand’s Prime Minister. He has been Prime Minister for 5

years.

NATIVE ANIMALS Temple Monkeys, Elephants, Water

Buffalos, Cobras, Crocodiles, Isaan Cow, Deer, Butterflies, Orang-utans and Ratufa Bicolor are just some of Thailand’s native animals. Most of Thailand’s animals live in

the jungle and the forest.

RELIGION-COMPARED TO AUSTRALIA

Religion in Australia is diverse: there is no state religion, the establishment of which is prohibited by the Australian Constitution. Australia is a country

with a wide range of religious affiliations; of the 22 major religions

of the world all except three are practiced in Australia. Unlike Thailand, Australia’s religion is not Buddhism.

bush.
