2014-2015 SEASON

1 www.townhallartscenter.org / 303.794.2787

Letter from the Executive DirectorDear Friends of Littleton Town Hall Arts Center,

Welcome to Town Hall Arts Center’s 2014-2015 Season!

For almost a year now the program committee has been hard at work considering your surveys and suggestions. It was a lot of work, but I think you’ll agree that their choices for this year have something for everyone! I know that you will want to be with us

for the Holidays to experience the classic Anything Goes as only director Nick Sugar and Town Hall can do it. What a way to celebrate with the music and lyrics of Cole Porter and loads of tap dancers! That will be followed by Town Hall’s play offering this year, the wonderful comedy The Clean House directed by Bob Wells, another Town Hall favorite. Director Bob Wells opens the season with his uniquely creative vision of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The first production that Bob directed for Town Hall was How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying back in the 03-04 season. We look forward to him bringing this musical comedy to the theatre once again. In April, he will also direct the award winning The Marvelous Wonderettes. Patrons who loved the close harmonies of Forever Plaid from a couple of seasons ago will love The Marvelous Wonderettes. Director Nick Sugar will finish off the season with the Tony Award winning Next to Normal, and then the hilarious Young Frankenstein, written by Mel Brooks.

Then don’t miss all of the special concerts and events! New this season will be Captain Quirk and Friends presenting their hugely popular Abbey Roadshow. Come hear the Beatles as only Captain Quirk does them. Those concerts will be followed in April by the amazing music of Rocky Mountain Brassworks’ Elite Brass. For two weekends in October, Town Hall is delighted to present Vintage Theatre’s compelling RFK. And we begin the season with the Littleton Jazz Festival during Western Welcome Week in August.

We are excited! This season is the 33rd season that Town Hall Arts Center opens its doors once again to the community. THAC would definitely not be the fabulous place that it is without YOUR support! You, THAC patrons, assure the success of this community’s theatre year after year!! And, this year, please consider joining our Backstage Donors. These donors give an extra gift to support all of our programming but, most importantly, help keep our children’s programming strong and growing. Introducing that next generation to the wonders of live theatre assures the future of this unique community asset. With your patronage and support, Town Hall Arts Center will be here for many, many more years engaging, entertaining and sparking your creative side!

Come join us to experience live theatre at its best!

2014-2015 SEASON MUSICALS

2014-2015 SEASON CONCERTS / EVENTS

How to Succeed in Business Without Really TryingSeptember 12 – October 12, 2014 Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser Book by Jack Weinstock, Abe Burrows & Willie Gilbert

A satire of big business and all it holds sacred, HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING follows the rise of J. Pierrepont Finch, who uses a little handbook to climb the corporate ladder from lowly window washer to high-powered executive, tackling such familiar but potent dangers as the aggressively compliant “company man,” the office party, backstabbing co-workers, caffeine addiction and, of course, true love.

Anything GoesNovember 14 – December 28, 2014 Music and Lyrics by Cole Porter Original Book by P.G. Wodehouse & Guy Bolton and Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse New Book by Timothy Crouse & John Weidman Originally Produced by Lincoln Center Theatre, New York City

The age-old tale of Boy-Meets-Girl and the complications which ensue intrigue every audience. This show is an amusing story wrapped around one of Cole Porter’s magical scores, including It’s De-Lovely, Friendship, I Get A Kick Out Of You, All Through The Night, Anything Goes, You’re The Top and Blow, Gabriel, Blow. It’s a wonder that all the romances are sorted out and disaster is averted aboard the magical ship where ANYTHING GOES!

The Clean HouseJanuary 9 – February 1, 2015 Written by Sarah Ruhl

The play is a romantic comedy centered on a Brazilian cleaning woman who would rather be a comedian. THE CLEAN HOUSE takes place in “metaphysical Connecticut,” mostly in the home of a married couple who are both doctors. They have hired a housekeeper named Matilde, an aspiring comedian who’s more interested in coming up with the perfect joke than in house-cleaning. This theatrical and wildly funny play is a whimsical and poignant look at class, comedy and the true nature of love.

8th Annual Littleton Jazz Festival August 15, 2014, 6:30 p.m.Purnell Steen & Le Jazz Machine AND Jeff Jenkins. Purnell Steen makes his 3rd appearance at the annual concert. Steen is an accomplished pianist and leader of his group that are favorites at night clubs, private events and jazz festivals. Steen was the recipient of the 2010-2011 “Jazz in Five Points” award. Jeff Jenkins is a top call Denver pianist who has been at the forefront of the Denver scene. Jeff has worked with such notable artists as Freddy Hubbard, Eddie Harris, and the Count Basie Orchestra. The quartet will present a program of Dave Brubeck music using original arrangements.

RFK - A Portrait of Robert Kennedy October 17, 18, 19, 2014 and October 24, 25, 26, 2014This tour-de-force one-man show breathes new life into the back-story of the Kennedy family. RFK creates a very human portrait of a politician and revisits some of the darker moments in U.S. History. Author Jack

2014-2015 SEASON MUSICALSNext to NormalFebruary 13 – March 15, 2015 Music by Tom Kitt, Book and Lyrics by Brian Yorkey

NEXT TO NORMAL tells the story of a mother who struggles with bipolar disorder and the effect that her illness has on her family. This contemporary rock musical is an emotional powerhouse that addresses such issues as grieving a loss, ethics in modern psychiatry, and suburban life. With provocative lyrics and a thrilling score, this musical shows how far two parents will go to keep themselves sane and their family’s world intact.

The Marvelous WonderettesMarch 27 – April 26, 2015 Written and created by Roger Bean, Musical Arrangements by Brian William Baker, Orchestrations by Michael Borth, Vocal Arrangements by Roger Bean & Brian William Baker

This smash off-Broadway hit takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As we learn about their lives and loves, we are treated to the girls performing such classic ’50s and ’60s songs as Lollipop, Dream Lover, Stupid Cupid, Lipstick on Your Collar, Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, It’s My Party, and over 20 other classic hits! You’ve never had this much fun at a prom and you will never forget THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES.

Young FrankensteinMay 15 – June 14, 2015 Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks IT’S ALIVE! From the creators of the Broadway sensation The Producers comes this equally witty and bawdy monster musical comedy. With such memorable tunes as The Transylvania Mania, He Vas My Boyfriend and Puttin’ On The Ritz, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is scientifically-proven, monstrously good entertainment…and the only place you’ll witness a singing and dancing laboratory experiment in the largest tuxedo ever made.

Holmes expands the well-known facts of a politician’s life into a stirring metaphor for the struggle to believe in our government and our leaders.

Captain Quirk and Friends: Abbey Roadshow February 22, 2015 and March 1, 2015, 6:30 p.m.If you’re a Beatles music fan, this show is for you. Captain Quirk and Friends will be presenting the Abbey Roadshow. The group consists of some of your favorite actors and musicians that have entertained you over the years at THAC. The show features a number of selected Beatles favorites followed by the complete Abbey Road album. The band has played for numerous sold out audiences across the region.

Rocky Mountain Brassworks’ Elite Brass April 12 and April 26, 2015, 6:30 p.m.This all-brass small ensemble will both surprise and delight you with its repertoire of poignant as well as dynamic brass arrangements. Elite Brass will entertain you with show tunes, patriotic marches, contemporary selections, and beloved classical melodies. This small ensemble is part of Denver’s only authentic brass band, the Rocky Mountain Brassworks.
