Importance of Yoga in our Shakhas. - Sharad Shah, Kendriya saha Shareerik Pramukh.

International Yoga day this time has generated a lot of interest amongst shakhas and by celebrating the day we have connected to the local communities, bringing in MPs’ and councillors. This is very encouraging. Everyone is aware of the value the yoga. While we want to popularise it amongst the local people, are we as Swayamsevaks / Sevikas and karyakartas taking it serious enough in our daily lives? A large proportion of us do not. Clearly it is reflected in the state of our physical and mental fitness. We work harder and effectively than many of our Hindu counterparts, but in major cases the drive is more adrenalin driven, than natural, which in the longer run is detrimental to our health. We as Sangh karyakartas have more challenges than many of other Hindus at large, hence yoga in our daily lives is all the more essential. The benefits of daily practice of yoga and Suryanamaskar are immense. Apart from sound health and ease of mind, the work becomes a natural phenomenon. To develop a daily routine, it is necessary to introduce the yoga in shakhas with intent on daily practice. It is encouraging to note many proudh shakhas practice yoga. However, we need to have this as part of our curriculum in the younger shakhas, (yuva, tarun, kishore, bal), as well. 10/ 15 minutes should be fine. Suryanamaskar are the most essential and beneficial asanas should be made to be practiced on regular routine in shakhas. Suryanamaskar marathons can enhance the popularity of it. Many in the young age do not appreciate the benefits of yoga and it is dismissed as a passive and feminine exercise. Contrary to this yoga is the foundation to everything including martial arts. It makes a warrior out of a person going through the right asanas as well as other aspects of yoga. One can generate more sweat and physical fitness through yoga than a lot of other exercises. Again the benefits are all round. We need only about 10 to 15 minutes of the shakha time as we do not want to compromise on Khel. Khel is not just an attraction for the youth, but also builds up vital skills in our Swayamsevaks and Sevikas. Only 10 to 15 minutes of Shakha time will be enough for yoga. Further the strong practice of Suryanamaskars and asanas will only enhance khel and other aspects of shakha.
