Holy Land via Turkey

Day 1 and 2 - USA to Turkey Your spiritual pilgrimage begins as you depart on your internationalflight to Turkey. Arrive and transfer to Kusadasi for overnight.

Day 3 - Colossae, Aphrodisias & Laodicea (Denizli)In church history, Colossae had the distinction of being both the homeof Philemon and Onesimus as well as the intended audience of Paul’sLetter to the Colossians. You can still see traces of the theatre, theNecropolis and the Church here. The neighboring town of Aphrodisiaswas famed for its marble statuary and structures including the Odeon, large stadium and its temple of Aphrodite. Laodicea, one of the SevenChurches mentioned in Revelation, was known for its banking, textiles, medical school and spiritual arrogance. Chastising the church forbeing neither hot nor cold, Jesus entreated them to repent: "As manyas I love, I rebuke and chasten…” (Rev. 3:15, 19).

Day 4 - Sardis & PergamumToday’s itinerary includes two of the seven churches mentioned inRevelation (Rev. 2:12). Sardis was known for its wealth and power, asevidenced by the immense size of its temple of Artemis, massivegymnasium, and the largest synagogue of the ancient world. Likethese once vibrant ruins, the Sardis church was dead even though itappeared alive. Travel on to Pergamum, whose church wascondemned for tolerating “the deeds of the Nicolaitans” that Christhated (Rev. 2:13-17). Pass through Pergamum’s Royal Gates to enterone of the great centers of classic Greek culture, including thefoundations of the temples of Zeus, Athena, and Trajan; and theLibrary, which once held 200,000 parchment volumes. Explore theremains of the Grand Theatre, Gymnasium, and the Aesclepion as youview the fabled Acropolis, towering a thousand feet above the city.

Day 5 - EphesusEphesus is another of the Seven Churches of Revelation (Rev. 1:11)and was once a bustling port town graced with wide, colonnade-bordered streets and a population of 250,000. Although spectacularexcavations have revealed much of the glory of ancient Ephesus, including the huge Agora and Library, much has been lost. The ancientworld once declared the Temple of Artemis to be one of the SevenWonders of the World but today, only a single column remains to markits site. The Basilica of St. John, traditional site of his grave, offers acompelling panorama of the area. Explore the Museum of Ephesusfor an up-close look at ancient artifacts.Day 6 - Istanbul Take an early morning flight to Istanbul. You will have a brief city tourbefore returning to the airport for an afternoon flight to Tel Aviv.Transfer to Bethlehem for overnight.

Day 7 - Jericho, Qumran & Bethlehem Journey to Jericho (considered the oldest city in the world) to visit theruins of the ancient city conquered by Joshua (Josh. 6:1). In thedistance, you can see the traditional site of the Temptation of Jesus

(Matt. 4:1-11). Jesus traveled the nearby Roman road and possiblyused it as the setting of His parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-36). Travel to Qumran, site of the Dead Sea Scroll discovery, andlearn about the mysterious community of the Essenes. In Bethlehem, visit the cave revered as the place of Jesus’ birth (Matt. 1:18-25; Luke2:1-7) and the Church of the Nativity built on the site. Gaze out overthe nearby Shepherds Field, where the angels first proclaimed theGood News.

In Tabgha, visit theChurch of the Fish and the Loaves, the traditional location for thefeeding of the 5,000 (Luke 9:10).

Day 9 - Cana, Nazareth, Megiddo & CaesareaIn Cana, visit the site of Jesus’ first miracle before continuing on toNazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus (Matt. 2:23). Explore TelMegiddo, one of the most important archaeological sites in Israel. Endyour day at Caesarea, a center of the early Christians. This is wherean angel visited Cornelius, the first Gentile believer (Acts 10), andwhere Paul was imprisoned for two years before appealing to Caesarfor a hearing.

Day 10 - JerusalemStand on the Mount of Olives where Jesus ascended into heaven fortydays after His resurrection (Acts 1:9-12). Pray in the Garden ofGethsemane and envision the scenes of the night before Jesus’crucifixion (Matt. 26:36-44). Visit the Haas Promenade to view the cityJesus wept over.
