My Beloved Family in Christ,

I write to you rejoicing in the many blessings I continue to receive day after day at Franciscan University! FUS is like a Catholic wonderland with the mission of a spiritual bootcamp. While I can walk joyously around the life-filled campus and encounter the smile of Christ in his many faithful friars, nuns, and other religious, entering the classroom I am rightfully challenged to not only be studi-ous, but holy. As a part of the Priestly Discernment Pro-gram I’ve joined a brotherhood of gentleman dedicated to following the will of God above their own desires. With daily community prayer, brotherly accountability, and weekly formative talks, we ardently pursue this path of holiness together.

To a faith family that helped pick me up and send me on this path, please know of my most sincere gratitude, my daily prayers for your intentions, and that I miss you all!

Faithfully yours in Christ, Joseph J. Kiss

BUILDING A LEGACY: ON THE ROCK

Someone close to me has left the Church,

how should I reach out to them?

For many of us, this can be a challenging question. When

people we love leave the Church, we may not

always know how to relate to them in certain ways. Are

some conversation topics off limits? Are there certain be-

haviors or decisions we can’t support in good

conscience? When someone or something is lost, Jesus

shows two different attitudes in his parables.

One is actively seeking. Don’t give up on this person and

their life of faith. Ask them about their spiritual journey.

Invite them to spend time with you in faith settings, as

appropriate, and outside of them. Continue in

relationship with those you love.

The other attitude Jesus shows is consistent witness in

the waiting. In the parable of the Prodigal Son, the father

doesn’t go after the son. He waits for his return.

However, the son knows his father is trustworthy. He

remembers his father’s fair treatment of the hired hands

and knows it is safe to return, despite all he has done.

Your ability to change someone is quite small. However,

you can change yourself. Make sure you consistently

treat others with kindness, compassion, and respect. If

your loved one wants a deeper conversation, they’ll know

you are a person to trust, a place to which they can

return. ©LPi

Catholic Campaign for Human Development Thank you for your generous support for the collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development! As a parish, we raised $926.46 to support those who live in poverty in the United States.

Prayer Partners Let us embrace the power of prayer by praying for one another. Our goal is to pair each Faith Formation student with a parishioner to pray for each other through-out the school year. If you would like to be a Prayer Partner, fill out the form below or contact Alisha,

[email protected] or 269-857-7951 x2.

Sacramental Preparation Celebrating the sacraments are an essential part of our Catholic Faith. Your family creates the Domestic Church and you are the first teachers for your child/ren. Therefore, as parents, your guidance, participation and understanding of your child’s formation through their faith journey is critical. All candidates for sacraments are to be receiving ongoing catechesis via one of three normal means: Catholic School, Parish Religious Education program, or through Catholic Home-schooling.

In addition to this catechesis, the parish also must provide formal proximate evangelization and catechesis specific to the Sacrament for the child and their families. No matter how the normal ongoing catechesis is received, all children will need to attend these proximate preparation sessions.

Diocese of Kalamazoo

At least one parent or guardian along with your child, must attend the meeting for the sacrament you would like to begin preparing for this school year.

1st Reconciliation (2nd grade and older) Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9:15am in the Vatican Room

1st Communion (preparation may begin after receiving Reconciliation) Sunday, October 6 at 9:15am in the Vatican Room

Confirmation (8th grade and older) Sunday, October 13 at 9:15am in the Vatican Room
