Fight The Good Fight!One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was written by Ken Kesey and published in 1962 to immediate overwhelming and enduring popularity. For over fifty years now the book has been required reading for many high school students, while at the same time banned from many reading lists because the content is threatening to school authority figures. Kirk Douglas purchased the rights to the book and asked Dale Wasserman to write an original script which was produced on Broadway in 1963. That production starred Kirk Douglas who took extensive creative control over his character, McMurphy. Only running for 82 performances, the play was panned by the reviewers who claimed McMurphy was too likeable. In 1971 the play was revived, again by Dale Wasserman with Ken Kesey’s blessing. This was the script Dale wanted to write, and this version ran for more than 1000 performances. Remounted again on Broadway in 2001, Cuckoo won the Tony Award that year for Best Revival of a Play. In 1975 the book was made into a movie with significant creative differences - differences that prompted Kesey to completely withdraw his name and support for the film. Kesey never agreed that the story should be told from McMurphy’s point of view, insisting that it be seen through Chief’s perceptions. In spite of the Hollywood movie authorities winning this fight (how is that for irony), the film went on to win all seven major categories at the Academy Awards that year. What makes this play so universal is the timeless tale of one man against the system. We watch powerful self-serving factions fight for what they perceive is in our best interests. People in positions of authority are seduced by their own power, leaving the innocents they claim to be representing, or even curing, tragically taking the brunt of the damage done. Question authority – a phrase that has lost its meaning because of its overuse – is more valid than ever.In Cuckoo, authority ultimately wins out, but it is the fight against that authority that is virtuous and valiant. We hope you leave the theatre today knowing once again that at some point we must speak up for what we believe, no matter what challenges get in our way. We must speak up, or be willing to live with the consequences.Enjoy the play!Lennie Dean

TICE ALLISON(Cheswick) Tice’s penchant for breathing life into disenfranchised characters has afforded him a worthy list of stage credits. A self-acknowledged character

actor, Tice delivers “the drawn butter” in all roles handed him, always finding humor & heart in even the most perverse of characters. Most recently Tice Allison was seen in August: Osage County playing the sexual predator, Steve Heidebrecht. Before that, he was the despised older brother, Gooper, in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. In the west coast premiere of Kite’s Book, he played the 18th-century sociopath, Jack Wyld. He played Alan, the new age weirdo in Snowing at Delphi and in Gene Abravaya’s The Final Scene, he played the damaged-goods cameraman, Boseman. Mr. Allison’s other credits include the stage plays Reckless, Dinner with Friends and The Grapes of Wrath, and you can view photos of his work as an actor from the “My Art” menu bar on his website: www.TiceAllison.com

NICOLAS AUGUSTA(Warren) Born in San Francisco, he has called Santa Rosa home since the age of 5. Although he has been involved in Theatre Arts for

about 20 years, this is his first performance at 6th Street Playhouse. His most recent performance was in The Imaginary Invalid at the Raven Performing Arts Theater.

LITO BRIANO(Martini) Lito, a Santa Rosa native, is an actor, writer, and director for stage and film. In addition to appearing in local

theatre productions, he has independently produced and performed his original works

of theatre and is the founder of the Sonoma County Stage One Theatre Awards (SOTAs). He holds a BA in Theatre from SSU and an MFA in Film Acting from Academy of Art University. His dream is to work as an actor/writer for motion pictures and teach acting. Recent credits include The Tennessee Menagerie (as titular playwright Williams, for which he won a local award for Best Actor), Stalag 17, Richard III, Twelfth Night, and Alice: The Rebellion of Wonderland as the Mad Hatter. In directing, he won an award for Best Director for Cyrano de Bergerac and has also directed Mr. Marmalade, A Doll’s House and The Miracle Junkie, his original play, which he will revive in 2014. He is proud to be acting again at The 6th Street Playhouse.

CRYSTAL CARPENTER (Candy Starr) Crystal has been acting since she was six years old. She graduated from Sonoma State University in 2010 with a Bachelor

of Arts in Theater and she finds great joy and wonder (and sometimes a great challenge!) in discovering and exploring different characters on stage. Her first performance with 6th Street Playhouse was in The Ticking Clock. She has been acting in Sonoma County for over five years, most recently seen in Enchanted April for Curtain Call Theater and has performed in many shows for Narrow Way Stage Co, including: Antigone, Richard III, and Cyrano De Bergerac. She is so excited to be working with such a brilliantly talented cast and crew: what an absolute gas!

NICK CHRISTENSON (Chief Bromden) Nick is beyond excited to be working with The 6th Street Playhouse. Nick is a Co-Founder and Artistic Director of

Narrow Way Stage Company. He was just recently seen in King Stag at the Curtain Theatre in Mill Valley. Look for him later this year in the Studio Theatre in The Lonesome West, with his real-life brother Jon. He would like to thank his beautiful love Alexis for her undying support and his familywho is always there through thick and thin. Also he is truly honored to share the stage with such talented actors. And finally, Thank You to all of you who have ventured into the theatre tonight, See you on the other side.

TAYOR DIFFENDERFER (Nurse Flinn) Taylor has been involved in Sonoma County theatre for over five years and is an ensemble member of The Imaginists Theater Collective. This is

her sixth production at 6th Street Playhouse and third time performing on the GK Hardt stage. She is extremely excited to be working with such a powerful group of artists for this production.

ARNOLD HOUSE (Turkle) Acting in Sonoma County since 2000 in comedies, dramas and musicals, he has performed at Pegasus Theatre, Spreckels,

The 6th Street Playhouse, Cloverdale Performing Arts Center, Cinnabar and the Raven. Some of his roles include: Winthrop/Judge in Legally Blond, Tom Robinson in To Kill a Mockingbird, Uncle Pleasant in Orpheus Descending, Lucien P. Smith in

The Boys Next Door; Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple, Jacob Engstrand in Ghosts, Freddy in Picasso at the Lapain Agile, Hoke Colburn in Driving Miss Daisy, Teetot in Hank Williams-Lost Highway, Benny in Rent, Maitre’D in Cabaret, Lord Savage in Jekyll & Hyde, Howie in Our Town, and Bytes in The Elephant Man. It’s great to be back at the 6th Street Playhouse. Enjoy the show!

MICHAEL HUNTER (Ruckly) This is Michael’s first show at The 6th Street Playhouse and he is more than excited and honored for this opportunity and to be among this amazing

and talented cast. Michael’s previous work includes Evita (The Raven Players), Young Frankenstein (North Bay Premiere) and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (both at Spreckels), The Great Divide and Oklahoma (SSU) and The Merry Wives of Windsor (Narrow Way Stage). Michael would like to dedicate his performance to his father who worked in a mental hospital many years ago and who passed away recently. Much love to Mom.

JIM JONES(Dr. Spivey) Jim has been active in the Bay Area theatre community for many years. His experience in Shakespearean roles include a performance of

scenes for the British Consulate and plays for Bay Area Shakespeare Festivals. His dramatic and comedic roles have been in such plays as Proof, Three Sisters, 9 Circles, The Crucible and Actor’s Nightmare. He won a 2012 Arty Award from Solano County for Supporting Actor for a drama, Distracted, and a 2013 Arty Award nomination for a comedy, Lend Me A Tenor. He has worked

BIOGRAPHIESin a variety of commercials and video productions. He is retired from being the Chief of Psychology at a local state hospital. In 2012 he was awarded the Chief’s Medal from the City of Napa’s Police Chief and Mayor for distinguished public service.

ALAN KAPLAN (Scanlon) Alan has been involved in theatre since he was a young delinquent in Chicago. His years there included a four year stint with Paul

Sills, the founder of Second City doing story theatre at the Body Politic Theater. He spent many years in Ukiah acting and directing at the Ukiah Player’s Theater. Since moving to Sonoma County in 1996 he has worked with Sonoma County Rep., Cinnabar, Main Street Theater and the Raven Players. This is his fourth production with The 6th Street Playhouse. His roles include Robert in Proof, Beverly Weston in August: Osage County, and he recently directed a piece for the 10 minute Play Festival. He is crazy for Cuckoo’s Nest.

JUSTIN KEIM (Billy Bibbit) Justin is excited to be returning to The 6th Street Playhouse for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He has been in numerous plays

at Sonoma State University including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, where he played Bottom, and The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? After graduating last December with a degree in history, Justin made his debut at 6th Street where he bared all to audiences in The Full Monty. This summer he also had the pleasure of appearing in the Redwood Writers Ten Minute Play Festival at 6th Street and was also recently seen in King Stag at the Curtain Theatre in Mill Valley.

Lastly he would like to thank Harold and Donna Keim, Megan Bartlett, Paige Picard, and Ed Hill for the gracious support.

STACEY KERR (Technician) Stacey is glad to be back on the boards and playing with sharp and shiny objects. A family physician, a published writer, and an

advocate for women-empowered childbirth, Stacey is on a constant search for life at its fullest. Her book “Homebirth in the Hospital” has opened doors all over the world for her to speak to Mother Nature and medicine. Her last stage appearance was in the One Act Play Festival in 2012 and prior to that she was Susan Miller in My Left Breast which was performed in Sonoma, Napa, Ukiah, and at the Wells Fargo Center in Santa Rosa. Ken Kesey changed her life course many years ago and appears to be doing it again. Happily.

ALEXIS LONG (Sandra) Alexis has been practicing the magic of theatre since it entranced her mind as a youth. She was pulled in by the beautiful San Francisco

Bay Area and has been performing with many surrounding theatre companies for the last six years. Her last appearance was in the Playfest by Sonoma Stageworks and her next appearance will be directing at Pegasus Theatre. Alexis has worked thoroughly with both Narrow Way Stage Company and Actor’s Basement in many facets in addition to acting. She would like to thank Nicolas for his unwavering support and always brightening her world. Alexis would also like to thank each and every audience member for joining the world of the show.

BIOGRAPHIESEDWARD P. McCLOUD (Randle P. McMurphy) Edward is thrilled to be back at 6th Street Playhouse. He has worked with many Bay Area theatres over the

years including Napa Valley Conservatory, Ross Valley Players, Sonoma County Rep, The Shotgun Players and Narrow Way stage Co. He was last seen at 6th Street Playhouse as Alfred in the world premiere play Happy. Other favorite roles of his include Tom in The Great Divide, Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire, Dwight in Dead Man’s Cell Phone, Sharkey in The Seafarer and Austin in True West for which he was nominated for a BATCC award for Best Performance in 2005. Edward would like to thank his friends and family for their continued support and encouragement. Special thanks to Minerva, Wink, Dan, Vayya, Lennie, Leana, Ananda, Zac, Jenn and Jack.

DALLAS MUNGER (Dale Harding) Dallas is pleased to be returning to the GK Hardt stage after his North Bay debut last spring in The Full Monty. Dallas has been performing on

stages from coast to coast for over 15 years and some of his favorite roles include Rick Steadman in The Nerd, The Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince in Into the Woods and Buffalo Bill in Annie Get Your Gun. Dallas teaches performing arts to adults with special needs at Alchemia, Theatre for Life in Santa Rosa and assists in all aspects of the wine business at Kaz Winery in Kenwood. DONYELL MAURICE (Williams) Donyell is excited to be joining the cast of One Flew Over The Cukoos Nest. He lives in San Francisco, Ca. with his family whom he thanks deeply for all of their support. He is a second year film student, with plans of getting his degree in cinema. Donyell has appeared in several plays with the Lead role in Mr. Slick Soup, and Ghetto Heaven, which toured the Carolina college circuit, as well as some on-screen acting. Most recently playing the role of a doctor in a the feature length film, “Salt Water, the Movie”. Donyell is very grateful to director, Lennie Dean, for the opportunity to be a part of such a great ensemble cast. Donyell would like to thank Craig Miller and the entire staff at 6th Street Playhouse for welcoming him with open arms. Donyell would like to say a special “Thank You” to Nicolas Christenson.

JILL ZIMMERMAN (Nurse Ratched) Jill was raised in Auburn, Indiana and studied theatre at Ball State University. She moved to LA to pursue an acting career in 1992. She landed guest star roles on television and in independent movies, most notably appearing

in an episode of “Everybody Loves Raymond”. Behind the scenes she worked for her comic idol, Carol Burnett, and was honored to take an acting master class with Sir Anthony Hopkins.

She and her family moved to Santa Rosa four years ago. This is her third production at 6th Street. She played Claire in Proof and just last fall won Best Actress from SFBATCC for her role as Barbara in August: Osage County. She would like thank her husband Mark for daring her to live her dream.

BIOGRAPHIESof Design and Merchandising, and 2013 marks her 15th year of private professional practice specializing in architectural and interior design. She is delighted to return as stage manager for another theatrical collaboration with 6th Street Playhouse.

APRIL GEORGE (Lightng Designer) April George received a BFA in Motion Picture/Television Production from Academy of Art University San Francisco with emphasis in Directing. She is an AEA Equity Stage Manager. April has been working as a lighting designer for the past ten years. Some of her favorite shows were the Marvelous Wonderettes, August: Osage County and Lend Me a Tenor. April is happy to be back working on this production.

TRACY HINMAN SIGRIST (Costume Designer) Tracy holds an MFA in Costume Design from San Diego State University and a BA in Theatre from Cal State Hayward. Since 2010 she has designed a dozen shows at 6th Street Playhouse including The Great American Trailer Park Musical (Sonoma County SOTA nomination for best costume design), The Marvelous Wonderettes (Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle nomination for outstanding costume design), Kite’s Book (SOTA award for best costume design) and the Bay Area premiere of Becoming Walt Whitman directed by Russell Kaltschmidt. Tracy is a part-time costume technician at Sonoma State University, and is also a vocalist, a graphic designer, and a mom.

DAVID R. WRIGHT (Scenic Designer) David received his undergraduate interdisciplinary degree in Architecture, Painting, Printmaking, Graphic Arts and all aspects of Theatre from the U. of O. Cuckoo’s Nest is David and design and life-partner, Nick Charles’s, ninth collaboration with 6th Street Playhouse.

CLINT CAMPBELL (Assistant Director) Clint is happy to have been a part of this production. While mostly an actor he likes to also dapple in dance choreography, fight choreography and most recently directing. Cuckoo’s Nest is one of his favorite shows and, as a fan of Lennie Dean’s work, he thought this would be the perfect chance to learn a thing or two. Clint wishes to thank the cast and crew for all their hard work, Lennie for tips and tricks, and the audience for coming out to this great show. Cheers.

LENNIE DEAN (Director) Lennie received an MFA in Acting from the Temple University Advanced Actor Training Program in Philadelphia. She has been part of the Sonoma County theatre scene for forty years where she co-founded & was Artistic Director of the Marquee Theater, and founder andArtistic Director of Studio Be Theater. She has taught, acted, directed, worked as dramaturg & produced for several different theater companies and schools in New York and San Francisco, as well as locally in Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Sonoma. She is authorized by master acting teacher Eric Morris to teach his technique, The Eric Morris System. In 1999, Lennie received the Independent Eye Award for contributions in theatre in Sonoma County. She is currently teaching acting classes and is also Festival Director for the 10 Minute Play Festival at 6th Street Playhouse.

INGRID EMMING (Production Stage Manager) Ingrid has been stage managing in Sonoma County since 2007, most recently for Carmen at Cinnabar Theater. She has also worked on productions with Raven Performing Arts Theater, Pegasus Theater, Main Stage West, and Narrow Way Stage Company. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University’s Department
