the h2ome ofThank you to everyone who supported Mighty Peth this summer, whether as a player or coach on the

field, or as a sponsor or supporter off field.

We had the honour of winning the Pocklington 7s on Good Friday, after a last second try & conversion, having come back from 12 points down with 2 minutes left against a strong Hull RFC squad. The Pock 7s

is Yorkshire’s oldest 7s competition going back over 60 years. We join a list of illustrious names on the Pock 7s trophy and we’ll go back next year to mount a defence of our title!

That win, with runners up at Morpeth and Billingham qualified us for the national 24sevens finals at Nottingham. Having qualified from our group, we were beaten in the quarters against the eventual winners

and national champions. The Morpeth 7s winners, Akuma Beavers were the runners up that day which was a great achievement.

Plans are already in place for Mighty Peth next year and for the Morpeth 7s which is fixtured for Saturday 2nd May 2020.

Please get in touch for information and entry details for Morpeth 7s. Contact Paul Jackson for any information – 07753 573534

Programme Notes It is with pleasure that we are able to welcome the players, officials and supporters of MACCLESFIELD RFC to Mitford Road for this Northern Division North Premier League match.

This is the first occasion that Macclesfield RFC have visited Morpeth. Other than the September league game our only previous game was in September 2002 when we played, at Macclesfield, in what was then the Powergen Cup and a very young Morpeth side were well beaten by 12-46.The Morpeth XV that afternoon was –S Barber, N Mather, P Jackson, D Pinkney, A Rogers, N Harper, C Reynolds, S Ramsay, C Pringle, A Johnson, D Hutton, J Stafford, A Cameron, I Menzies, P Scott. We finished that 2002-03 season losing to Tynedale in the Senior County Cup by 6-7 and then lost most of our threequarter line to the local National League sides - Barry Hills had already moved to Tynedale and was followed by Nick Mather, Paul Mooney and Gregg Dawson, Tom Wilkinson went to Mowden Park and Simon Barber moved to Blaydon. Barry Hills, Nick Mather, Paul Mooney and Simon Barber all went on to play Senior County Rugby and Paul played for Otley for several years and went on to captain the Northumberland County side before returning to Mitford Road to captain Morpeth as did Tom Wilkinson. Today sees the beginning of the second half of the season. Macclesfield are now in 3rd place in the League having won 9 games and are 2 points behind Blaydon with Billingham out in front and Harrogate just one point behind with a game in hand. Having been relegated at the end of last season they will no doubt be determined to gain promotion at the end of this season. Morpeth find themselves at the other end of the League table with only 4 wins so far and need to start accumulating a lot more points. We have shown that we are capable of competing with most of the sides in the League and also know that we have lost games that we should have won. Earlier in the season we travelled to Macclesfield and despite leading at half time by 21-19 we eventually lost by 21-33. The Morpeth XV that played in September was -A Telford, S Hornby, A Tait, B Brown, J Jardine, B Hornby, J Elliott, C Wilson, C Hill, T Moody, B Jackson, M Dawson, I Burnham, J Williams, O Dynan. We will be with out a few of that squad – Ben Jackson and Matt Dawson are still injured while the European ski slopes have once again welcomed some of the Morpeth players for their annual holidays. We welcome this afternoon’s referee who is Gavin Jones from the RFU North Group we hope as usual that he enjoys his afternoon at Mitford Road
