I n his opening speech,Tan Sri Azman Hashim congratulated the 2015 graduates for their hard work, a monument which made the AICB proud. He also thanked the banking institutes for supporting the graduates in their studies.

Tan Sri Azman Hashim highlightedthe importance of the challenges faced by today’s bankers, and how they must be prepared with the necessary knowledge and skill to excel in the ever-changing fieldwhich is the market itself. He also commended the efforts of the AICB in maintaining an ethical standard, and

rallied the members to pursue further knowledge. He ended the speech with the importance of AICB’s exclusive membership, which would help in a graduate’s career development.

The ceremony was concluded withthe presentation of certificates byAICB's VVIP guests to the graduates.

The Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB) held their 19th Graduation & Awards Ceremony at the Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur, on 30 July 2016. Around 650 guests were present, along with AICB's Chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim, YB Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Tay Ah Lek and several other VVIPs.

This conference which was in its 4th year provided a platform to over 120 industry professionals to learn the latest industry trends in anti money laundering and a risk based approach, with sessions addressing cross border transactions, governance on offshore tax, common reporting standards and legislation governing international financial centres.

O nce again, delegates convergedin Labuan to learn and share best practices and latest trends and techniques in fighting financial crime, and update themselves on the latest reporting standards required for the offshore industry.

The half day workshop on Day 1, titled “Anti Money Laundering and Risk Based Methodologies” provedto be a popular session as lively

presentations was shared withthe delegates. Thought-provoking presentations on “Transformationof International Financial Centres – Legislation and Governance wasalso well received by the audience. The conference also provided an interactive forum to the practitioners and policy makers in addressing the cutting edge issues related to Anti Money Laundering. Collaborative Learning experiences with unlimited

access addressing new compliance requirements, emerging financial crime threats and lessons from real-world cases was much debated and shared with the delegates.

Participants who were engaged inthe strategic discussions walked away with actionable solutions delivered by renowned compliance executives.

AICB is committed to help university graduates in achieving the relevant professional qualification and membership that will give them a head start in their career in the banking and financial services industry. This has always been an important aspect of AICB’s objective as the Institute aims to build a sustainable talent pipeline for the industry.

W ith that AICB expands its outreach to students in tertiary education by collaborating with the Finance and Investment Society, Bachelor of Finance (Hons) of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) to organise a career talk titled “Banking, Is It the Job for You?” on 17 August 2016. The talk received overwhelming response and attracted 100 UTAR students.

Our invited guest speaker,Dato’ Howard Choo shared his extensive experience in thebanking and financial services industry with the students duringhis talk. He illustrated the roles and responsibilities of a banker and provided insights for students planning on embarking on a career journey in this industry. Students found this useful as they now know

the necessary skills and capabilities needed to be employer-ready when they the profession after graduation.

The talk ended with a lively Q&A session as Dato’ Howard Choo answered tentatively to allquestions raised by the students.
