1. Mayureshwar of MorgaonThis is the only temple which has both the idols of mouse and Nandi. It is also called ‘Bhooswanad Bhuvan’. The temple is covered from all sides by four Minarets and gives feeling of a mosque if seen from a distance. It is situated at a distance of 55 km from Pune.

I am glad Paranjape Schemes organise such an inventive cultural event. Th is is my second time under the singing category. It is a proud feeling for me when friends from various other societies complain about lack of such events in their societies. My mother Swara Mokashi has also participated in the singing category under diff erent group, this year.

For all cities

03Edit

Hello friends, s Stephen Hawking rightly says, we are very, very small but we are profoundly capable of very big things. Why am I referring this now? Well, the disastrous Kerala fl ood is the perfect example to give my thought a sense. While on one hand we saw the catastrophic damage caused by fl oods, other hand showed us an assuring picture- people helping other people!

For the past one month, people are helping others rebuild lives. The ruling party, oppositions, bureaucrats and civilians, all are working relentlessly in this time of crisis. Even today, the Army, Navy, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and others continue to work tirelessly towards rescuing people. Floods uprooted livelihood of residents. In such trying times, they showed immense resilience. Many lost their loved ones and belongings. But they couldn’t even mourn behind closed doors. They knew rehabilitation is the only option and picked up the scattered pieces of their lives.

People living outside Kerala understood this sentiment and came together to help those affected. These fl oods made us notice the exceptional power of Crowdfunding. It is a bridge connecting the victims, volunteers, contributors and Government. Even Government used the medium to make an appeal to people and non-residents through , ‘The CM's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF)’. Online portals like Amazon, Paytm, Milaap and Ketto also pitched in, making it

possible to contribute from anywhere in the world. Then there were local collection points in surrounding cities.

There are many crowdfunding websites of international repute that empower individuals and organisations to make a donation. Indians have known this concept for quite sometime as contributions have been made in the past during medical emergencies, natural calamities and various social causes. Climate-related disasters like storms, fl oods, droughts, wildfi res, etc. bring severe damage.

At the launch of ‘2018 New Climate Economy report’, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres specifi cally mentioned the devastating fl oods in Kerala as he expressed concern that climate change is running faster than we are and called for urgency and action to prevent greater climate-related crises.

On our part, we have crucial role to play- that of a responsible citizen who takes necessary precautions to conserve environment and who also comes forward to rehabilitate his own damaged community and fellow citizens. I sum up with an apt quote by Warren Buffet- If you're in the luckiest one percent of humanity, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99 percent.

Th is is my fourth year at Ganarang. Last three years we have taken some or the other award back home. I am sure this year won't be any diff erent. Ganarang is a fantastic community get together where residents from all PSCL societies get opportunity to showcase their talent. I am here to cheer a dance performance of Magnolia in which my son has participated. He has been practicing for this event from last couple of months by managing his studies. Residents share great bonding at Magnolia and cultural events like Ganarang give us opportunity to get ourselves introduced with residents from other societies.

e are the youngest Society just born on April 8, 2018 and are known as Blue Ridge Unit C1 Tower 20 to Tower 23, which is likely to change to Blue Ridge Unit C Tower 18 to 23 very soon. However, our pet name is Blue Ridge Unit C. The Grand Holi celebration was our fi rst occasion to interact as a family! At our fi rst General Body Meeting held on April 8, Sandip Roy, a very active member (who had migrated from other units of Blue Ridge), told us about Ganarang, and that was followed by the offi cial announcement.

The task of ensuring participation and locating talent was assigned to Mrs Santosh Kumari Chhabra, Managing Committee Member, who looks after Cultural and Temple Activities. With the monsoon, we had limited space and our clubhouse had no place either. But Shashank Paranjape and Yash Paranjape immediately provided additional space in all towers which solved our problem. Thanks to them, our plans to give tough competition to all in Ganarang 2018 got a big boost!

Soon we had contestants for solo singing, group dance, the fashion show, short fi lm, Ganpati decoration etc. While ladies with small kids and working women took the lead and started preparations, our men folk also managed to create a very vibrant and active team, despite tight work schedules. It has been very hectic and in spite of many hurdles, personal and professional commitments, everyone put in their best!

Our journey till date has been very hectic and many hurdles we faced getting all to put in best in spite of personal commitment, few fell sick, met with accidents & had to miss practice due to urgent trips abroad.

Our fi rst introduction with Ganrang was a practice session for solo singing. It was a unique experience during which we experienced the commitment of Ganrang Organising Team Led

by Ms Smita in managing the practice session.

As the Ganrang practice was in full swing , we had our fi rst major event of Independence Day function, in which almost 400 members with families participated and a special cultural program was presented by our members. This was a great hit and we also requested our Ganarang team to take part. Ganarang was the main reason

for all resident members to come out of their fl ats to be part of Happiness Family at Unit C1.

Our team of Mr Sunil Kumar and Mrs Trupti worked during rains to create short fi lm. Without any professional assistance they came up with an unique concept and did all fi lm related tasks successfully.

Held at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan Hall, the solo singing competition was very well

organised and all sessions were managed in clockwork precision. Our participants Ms Vishakha, Ms Apurva and Ms Himangani gave their best and made us all proud. Our unit did not take part in drama competition due to our main director and writer had to manage a personal emergency.

Our idol singer competitor Mr Sunil Kumar had done well and our BR Unit C is proud of him as he reached the fi nal round. we are all set for the Dance and Fashion Show Competition with the largest group of participants led by Ms Akansha and Ms Priyanka as the lead members.

Apart from Ganarang, our members are practising for the cultural events planned for the Ganapati Festival. The ladies, led by Mrs Sheetal, are all gearing up to take on the Dhol Tasha, and you will see a professional performance by them at our function.

I thank PSCL for taking the initiative of organising Ganarang which helped our newly-formed society bond and connect with each other so well. The Happiness Family of Unit C Blue Ridge is rocking with enthusiasm and is a well-knit TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) that contributes to the well-being of all and adds value to the Blue Ridge Township!

Rocking with Enthusiasm!

A unique, heart-warming gesture! On behalf of Unit A, CHS, Blue Ridge, I take this opportunity to express our gratitude and thanks to Paranjape Schemes for creating such a unique and unparalleled social interaction platform for all its residents. Ganarang is truly where everyone can come together and exhibit their hidden talents. While serving in the military, I have travelled through the length and breadth of India, and a few countries too, but never have I witnessed such a gesture by any builder, including those names that are big globally. Once again, hats off to the Paranjape Paarivar for their vision of togetherness and making all of us a part of their family. Kudos to the entire PSCL team!

12Dream Home

Home Sweet Home!

Th e process of buying your own house can seem quite intimidating. But with the backing of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and help from Indiabulls Housing Finance, you really can make your dream home come true! Here are the details...

he Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) — ‘Housing for All’ is a home loan scheme launched by our honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in the year 2015. The scheme envisions ‘Housing for All’ by the year 2022.

Today, India is at an infl ection point and is poised for steady, sustained growth over the coming decade. Compared to advanced and even emerging economies, our country’s mortgage penetration is very low, indicating the immense potential growth. And middle-income affordable housing segment is gathering momentum and the marker is estimated to grow to Rs. 6.25 trillion by 2022.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is available for dwelling units in statutory towns as per Census 2011, and towns notifi ed subsequently. They include the notifi ed planning area which comes under the jurisdiction of the urban development authority or similar statutory bodies.

With a particular focus on middle-income affordable housing, the Government has expanded subsidies under the PMAY to households with income of up to Rs. 18 lakhs per annum, squarely covering the middle-income segment. These subsidies, along with income tax deductions against home loan repayments, means that effective home loan rates in the middle-income affordable housing segment have crashed to near-zero levels making home ownership extremely compelling.

The PMAY benefi ts people belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG), Middle Income Group-I (MIG-I), and Middle Income Group-II (MIG-II) of society. They are provided with an interest subsidy for the purchase, construction, extension or improvement of their house. The interest subsidy provided is channelized through two central nodal agencies, that is, the Housing & Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) and the National Housing Bank (NHB). These government bodies channelize the subsidy to the lending institutions, which then help eligible applicants avail of the subsidy. Indiabulls Housing Finance Limited is an approved lender.

Features of CLSS: Economically Weaker Section (EWS)/ Low Income Group (LIG)

The interest subsidy on housing loans for EWS/LIG households was introduced by the Central Government w.e.f. June 17, 2015.

Income Range criteria for EWS/LIG:

years or tenure of the loan, whichever is lower · Aadhaar card is a mandatory requirement when

applying for this scheme

Eligibility for EWS/LIG:

Middle Income Groups (MIG)The interest subsidy on housing loans for MIG households/families was

introduced by the Central Government w.e.f. January 1, 2017.

13Carnival Time

or many years I dreamt of visiting the North-Eastern States of India, also known as the ‘Seven Sisters’; and this year, my dream came true! But I planned to visit not all ‘Seven Sisters’, only three of them — Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland. I was so very excited! And it was when I read the itinerary of the tour that I got to know about the Hornbill Festival. Till then I had never heard of it! And so I searched for articles to fi nd out more. This was also my little effort to know more about Nagaland, its culture and especially the Festival.

A Tribute and a Celebration

The eagerly-awaited Hornbill Festival is one of the most cherished festivals of Nagaland and is celebrated by locals with much enthusiasm and zeal.

Nagaland lies in the extreme North-Eastern part of India. It is bordered on its west and north by Assam, on its east by Myanmar (formerly Burma), on its north by Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur is to the south. Nagaland was declared the 16th state of India on December 1, 1963. Prior to it, Nagaland used to be a Union Territory.

Nagaland has as many as 16 different tribes and sub-tribes. These groups of people have their own separate cultural identities including customs, dresses and languages.

The Hornbill Festival is a celebration held every year from December 1st which also happens to be Nagaland Formation Day and it was fi rst held in the year 2000. Until a few years ago, it was a weeklong festival; but recently, seeing its grand success and achievement at attracting tourists from far and wide, across India and abroad, it has been extended by another three days and is held until the 10th of December. It is also called the ‘Festival of Festivals’.

The Festival is named after the Indian Hornbill, one of the most venerated bird species in the State, and whose importance is refl ected in a number of tribal cultural expressions, songs and dances. The Festival in a way is also a tribute to the Hornbill, a bird most admired by the Naga people for its qualities of alertness and grandeur. This majestic bird is linked closely with the social and cultural life of the people,

as is evident in their tribal folklores, dances and songs. The awe and admiration for the bird is symbolically displayed on almost all traditional tribal headgear worn during festivals.

Large, conspicuous and prominent in stature, the Great Hornbills are mostly seen in the forests of North-East India. Once upon a time, these conspicuous birds fl ew freely over dense forests and settlements alike while moving from one place to another in search of food. But now with the spike in hunting and habitat destruction as a result of the increase in human population, their distribution has shrunk signifi cantly. The traditional use of its tail feathers by most tribes has also proved to be fatal. Most of this species are under the threat of going locally extinct. Although Hornbills, especially the Great hornbill has earned itself a place in the Naga culture, it is not the state bird of Nagaland. It is to save this bird from becoming extinct and to increase awareness among people of Nagaland, that the Festival was named after it.

As we gear up for the much-anticipated Festival, let us keep in mind what is at stake for a group of birds that has given so much life, colour and signifi cance to the culture and tradition of Nagaland’s society, and learn to give the attention these birds rightfully deserve in terms of conservation and protection.

A True Extravaganza! Organised by the State Tourism and Art and

Culture departments of Nagaland, the Hornbill Festival showcases a mélange of cultural displays under one roof at a model village built

at Kisama, which is about 12 km from Kohima, the capital of Nagaland. History abounds in every nook and corner of the terrain here.

The aim of the Festival is to revive and protect the rich culture of Nagaland and is an extravaganza featuring its grand traditions.

Almost 85 per cent of Nagaland’s population still depends upon agriculture, so most of their festivals revolve around agriculture. The Hornbill Festival is one of the largest celebrations of the indigenous warrior tribes in Nagaland. Each of the tribes and sub-tribes in the State has their own way of cultivating their individual culture.

On December 1, 2017, our President Shri. Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the 18th Hornbill Festival at the Naga Heritage village of Kisama and the State Formation Day celebrations of Nagaland. He was accompanied by the Hon. Governor of Nagaland, Shri. Padmanabh Acharya and Chief Minister Shri. T.R. Zeliang. We witnessed the whole celebration and it was such a memorable experience, one that will last a lifetime!

On December 1, we reached the venue at 9 am. The festive mood was in the air everywhere, right from the entrance. The Naga people enthusiastically welcomed all the visitors in their traditional way by singing the folksongs and with a big smile. The venue was crowded with visitors from all over India, as well as foreign tourists. The celebrations were held in two sessions — one in the morning from 9:00-12:00, and other in the afternoon from 3:00-6:00pm.

How to Play KenKen?

Fill the grid with digits so as not to repeat a digit in any row or column, and so the digits within each heavily outlined box or boxes (called a cage) will produce the target number shown in that cage by using the operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division) shown by the symbol after the numeral.

For example, the notation 6+ means that the numerals in the cage should add up to 6 and the notation 48x means that by multiplying the numbers in the cage you will get 48. A 4x4 grid will use the digits 1-4, a 5x5 grid will use 1-5, a 6x6 grid will use 1-6, and so on.

For single box cages, simply enter the number that is shown in the corner.

(Continued from page 13)We could attend only the morning session that

day. At the venue, there was a huge ground where all the groups of tribes were ready to perform their cultural dances and songs. After the inauguration, the festival began in true earnest. Each tribe with different traditional colourful dresses, jewellery and headgear sang their folk songs and performed their dances. The Festival clearly showed the immense unity among all the tribes. People really enjoyed the colourful performances; it truly was a very beautiful event!

Also at the venue, each tribe was allotted space to display their various individual cultural characteristics which included their houses, clothes, food, crafts, games, etc. We visited every display to understand the different cultures and traditions and it was a very nice experience.

Other festival highlights were the traditional Naga culture exhibition and sale of arts and crafts, paintings, clothes, wood carvings, sculptures, and other artefacts. All the food grains, vegetables and fruits that the Naga people consume were also on display. Honestly, a day was not enough to visit all

stalls and to give justice to the Festival. You need to spend at least two to three days there.

One of the major highlights of the festival is the Hornbill International Rock Festival that is held at the Indira Gandhi stadium where local and international rock bands perform. We could not attend this event. The festival showcases both the culture and tradition of the tribal people and reinforces Nagaland’s identity as a unique state in India’s federal union.

A Warm Welcome To AllTourists are warmly welcomed and treated well.

For visitors, it means a closer understanding of the people and culture of Nagaland and an opportunity to experience Nagaland in all its glory.

In the evening, we were invited by the Governor of Nagaland, Hon. Shri. Padmnabh Acharya to the Raj Bhavan. Meeting him, chatting with him was an amazing experience! We also met Mr. Vitthal Kamat — the famous writer, businessman and hotelier; that was an additional treat!

I was thrilled with the day full of events.

December 1, 2017 will remain a memorable day in my life because I got one of the most beautiful experiences of my life! Long after the event, the memories of the songs and dances still linger in my mind.

The Hornbill Festival has contributed signifi cantly in enhancing the state’s tourism brand. It allows tourists to get an insight into the different tribes of Nagaland. It fosters an understanding of the rich cultural heritage of the State, its resourceful architecture and its ethnic cuisine. Previously, Nagaland was often misunderstood as not being suitable for tourism, with the result that tourism was scarce in this part of India. But thanks to the Hornbill Festival, this has now changed. More people must visit and experience the nature, culture and history of Nagaland. It truly is very safe for tourism; the Naga people are very kind-hearted and loving in nature and welcome us with smiling faces. It really is a land with endless possibilities for all tourists.
