2 2014 Payments Summit • February 5-7

Welcome to the Conference Welcome to the Smart Card Alliance 7th Annual 2014 Payments Summit in Salt Lake City, Utah, and a city with a solid reputation as a leader in payments innovation and technology, particularly in the area of mobile and transportation. We are delighted to have you join us for one of the industry’s leading forum about smart, secure payments technology and its implementation involving EMV card payments, mobile payments, and transit payments.

Once again we have returned to the Grand America Hotel, a superior facility that offers outstanding meeting capabilities and business enhancements to make your week as productive and comfortable as possible.

This is an outstanding opportunity to exchange the latest knowledge about the U.S. payments market, which is in the midst of transformation that will result in major changes in how consumers interact with their financial institutions, their mobile carriers, and their public transportation providers. Recent events involving serious threats to the safety and security of our payments system has raised the expectations that our payments industry will continue to innovate by investing in smart, secure chip technology and contactless forms of payment while keeping pace with the changing consumer preferences towards mobile commerce and online shopping.

The Summit features pre-conference workshops, plenary sessions, and stakeholder panels on EMV card payments, mobile payments, and transit payments. There’s plenty for you to choose from, and I encourage you to take advantage of all that’s being offered. While you are here, don’t forget about the great networking opportunities and receptions to reconnect with colleagues and make new contacts.

Review the agenda, highlight the sessions you want to attend, and commit to listening in on at least one session that does not directly relate to your market. You may find more similarities than differences. Consider ordering the audio archive to take back to your office to replay the sessions you may have missed and share the details you learned at the conference with your work colleagues. What we know for certain is that this event will leave you with new information, a new appreciation for the unique challenges ahead, and a renewed outlook for 2014.

Thank you for attending the 2014 Payments Summit and enjoy the conference!

“As a transit agency that is travelling the long and winding road in exploring the use of emerging payments technologies, we have found in the Transportation Council an invaluable resource and trusted chaperone. Put simply, we could not have progressed to the point we are today without the Council’s leadership and work in assembling subject matter experts and industry leaders from across the broad spectrum of the payments ecosystem to engage in thought-provoking discussions that serve to inform and educate. Equally important is the work of the Transportation Council in sponsoring and publishing timely and extremely informative white papers on topics that grow the collective knowledge base of the membership at large, collaborative efforts that serve to provide an unbiased, consistent base understanding of the technologies and processes relevant to public transit’s development of new fare payment systems.”

—Michael DeVitto, Vice President, AFC Program Management and Sales Operations, MTA New York City Transit

“The Transportation Council is a leading proponent of open standards in the evolution of smart card technologies for transit systems. INSIDE Secure shares the same commitment, and our relationship with the Council has been mutually rewarding. We value the strong relationships among Council members and look forward to great advances in smartcard technologies as we move forward.”

—Linh Huynh, VP Business Development, INSIDE Secure

“ThesuccessandcontinuinggrowthoftheTransportationCouncilreflecttheenterpriseandenthusiasm of its membership, who exchange ideas and share information in a variety of forums to promote innovation, increase knowledge, and return value to their organizations.”

—Jerry Kane, Senior Project Planner, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA)

“The Transportation Council of the Smart Card Alliance is a vibrant forum for thought leaders in public transit to discuss issues and opportunities that generate from advances in technologies.”

—Michael Nash, SVP Emerging Markets, Xerox State and Local Solutions

“At its core, the Smart Card Alliance’s Transportation Council is comprised of outstanding individuals taking active roles to explore and promote the positive effects new technologies can have on the transportation industry and, most importantly, its customers. The Council’s collaborative environment, which is continually expanding to meet the needs of its members, provides a diverse forum for insightful discussions, meetings and publications. LTK Engineering Services looks forward to its continued involvement in the Council as an active voice in support of our transit and parking clients.”

—Joshua Martiesian, Sr. Consultant, LTK Engineering Services

“The Smart Card Alliance is a great forum to both exchange ideas and advance smart card innovations and applications. The Alliance is also an authoritative source when it comes to promotingthebenefitsofRFIDorcontactlesstechnologies, andplaysanimportantroleineducating the consumer about the value of these technologies. Our goal at Accenture is to contribute to the goals of the Alliance and bring information about cross-industry applications to members so that we help providers improve their products and our clients make smart investments.”

—John Vasilj, Public Transportation North America, Accenture
