Chapter Activities
1. A lecture for celebrating the 50th anniversary of laser’ birth
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of laser’ birth, SPIE club held an academic lecture with
OSA club at Jiang An Campus of Sichuan University on November 28th, 2010. The main
contents of the lecture are as follows.
(1) Review the progress and significant achievements of laser technology in the last 50
years.
(2) Promote the combination of external laser research and industrial development.
(3) Talk about the development prospects and the challenges of laser.
2. A one-day travel in Happy Valley Garden
In order to enrich the leisure life of our member, foster team spirit and raise awareness of
service, we organized SPIE member of Sichuan University for a one-day travel in Happy
Valley Garden. In the event, the healthy, vibrant spirit of our members of Sichuan University was
shown.
3. Basketball League consisted of SPIE and OSA club
This basketball league promoted further development of sports activities in SPIE club and was
conducive to coordinated development of membership. Through this activity, the team members
are getting on better with each other, and the team spirit and sense of honor of our club were
increased.
4. Accompanied the Nobel Prize owner Douglas Osheroff to give a speech
The Nobel Prize owner Douglas Osheroff gave an academic lecture to the students in Sichuan
University on Understanding the Columbia Shuttle Accident at Wenhua center in Wangjiang
Campus.
5. The activity of Chong Yang Festival on March, 20th
It is our responsibility to take care of the old. In China, the Chong Yang Festival is a day on
which the young get together to visit the old. On that day, we organized our members and visited
the old in nursing home. Chatted with them and played with them.
6. Shen Yin Wang Guo
We invited the principal analyst Lin Wei and investment advisory director Zhou Ming from
Shen Yin Wang Guo to give a lecture about financial crisis and the macro-control in history. They
also taught us how to invest.
7. Academic Forum
We invited the professor of Francis T.S.Yu from Pennsylvania State University to give a lecture
on Academic Excellence in American University. He explained the status and benefits of working
in colleges.
8. Lecture on Visual System and Image Processing
We invited the doctor Luo Gang from Medical School of Harvard to give a lecture on Visual
System and Image Processing. He gave a systematic introduction of his current research from the
Recovery Research of Low Vision to Image Engineering.
9. Lecture about self help and mutual aid in the earthquake
In this lecture we invited Xin Gang, he was an earthquake rescue expert and had a lot of
experience of the aid after disasters. This lecture contained a lot of content, in which what he
focused on was some practical knowledge about field ambulance, escape, bandage and bleeding
and foreign body infarction.
10. Visit the company of HuaSai
The aim of this activity is to make the students be able to feel the excellent enterprise culture,
understand the requirements of the enterprise in the talent introduce, know what is the social
services of the company, understand what matters we should be careful in the future job interview
and how to write a good resume.
11. Discussion about job-hunting in the next semester
The main point of this meeting was the situation about job-hunting in the next semester. Members had talked about the possible problems in finding jobs, analyzed their own advantages and disadvantages and the preferences in job choice. After the discussion most of them believed that this meeting was very good for the future employment.
12. Develop seminar
The first development conference of Chinese university SPIE clubs was sponsored by the Sichuan
University SPIE branch and was held in May successfully. This conference was committed to
promote the communication of SPIE club members, discussed the current situation and out looked
of the club. All of these will be good for the inheritance of the spirit of SPIE.
Planned Activities in the future
1. Visit Sichuan Science and Technology Museum. 2. Cooperate with other 4 chapters in Singapore, India, Japan, and China to organize an
international student conference.
3. Visit local famous optical research centers and companies. 4. Invite experts in the field of optics and photonics to deliver talks. 5. Visit companies in the field of optics and photonics. 6. Communicate and exchange ideas with each other within our group regularly. 7. Give lectures to underclassman. 8. Participate in the optics conferences.
