It turned out to be a great day to run the athletics carnival last Friday and a great day was had by all. I am proud of our students and the level of participation that we see each year. It was also great to see so many parents attend and support their children and I thank you for taking the time out. Congratulations to all the age champions and thank you to Miss Rees for coordinating such a well run carnival. Last week the uniform committee met to review our current uniform code. The committee has decided to survey the school community on a number of issues raised. I would appreciate it if you could take the time to complete the attached survey and return to the school not later than the 10 th June. Congratulations to Mitchell Maguire who has been selected to play on the Division 2 AFL National 'Allies' side representing New South Wales, ACT, Queensland, Tasmania and the Northern Territory. He is set to play this weekend at the AAMI stadium in Adelaide. Mitch is a rising star at AFL and we wish him all the best for this weekend. On Thursday some of our primary students will be going to see ‘The Giggalees’ in the town hall with the Ariah Park Preschool. It should be a fun event to see. Our KROP students will audition this Friday and I wish them the best of luck and hope they make it. This Friday is our Whole School Assembly during period 4 starting at 11.59am. All are welcome. Whole School Assembly There will be a Whole School Assembly this Friday, 3rd June at 11:59am in the school hall. Kindergarten will be giving a performance. School Athletics Carnival 2016 On Friday 27th May 2016, Ariah Park Central School held our annual Athletics Carnival at the town oval. We had a beautiful day, with the weather being kind. All students had a great day, supporting their houses and competing in a wide variety of events. The Infants enjoyed their carnival activities and it was great to see all the support we received from parents and community members. The parent / teacher / student relay was again the race that stops the nation (well APCS for a few minutes), with everyone wanting to win. Congratulations to the students for winning that race. Well done to all students for participating at the carnival, you all did a great job!

Coaches report: Twenty-two enthusiastic RAP students took part in the Under 15’s AFL Day at Griffith. After a quick round of introductions in the change rooms all players took to the oval to warm up under the guidance of Michael Conlan and Mitchell Doyle. Game one was an intense affair with a strong wind proving to be as difficult as the opposition. Marian College Griffith overcame a brave RAP outfit to win 20 to 12. Better players included Michael Conlan, Connor Widdup, and the whole of the backline who moved together to repel attack after attack. Game two saw the RAP team have a surprise win over Saint Francis College, Leeton 31 to 25. Mitchell Doyle was outstanding in the air taking some big marks around the ground and Nic Fairman sealed the game with a long-range goal that sank the opposition’s hopes of a win. It was great to see many younger students attend the day and a special mention to Laveni who kicked a valued goal during the later part of the day. Many thanks to the parents who made a special effort to attend the day. Thank you to Ariah Park Central School for the use of the school jumpers. Mr Donaldson

Ariah Park Central School Uniform Committee Survey

The Ariah Park Central School uniform committee met recently to commence a review of our school uniform. This occurs at least every five years. As part of the review the committee would like to seek staff, parent and student opinion on a number of issues raised. We would appreciate your support and feedback by completing the following survey and returning no later than the 10th of June.

Wearing a school uniform allows each student to identify with the school, builds group spirit and prevents discrimination, unhealthy competition and arguments. The uniform exemplifies students’ pride in being part of a School Community. Wearing a school uniform helps create a sense of belonging and a

good school ethos (culture or spirit). By showing that we expect high standards with our uniform, expectations are raised and students respond with better behaviour. A uniform helps to develop a sense

of identity and pride. Please circle one response per question.

1. Which of the following members of our school are you? a. Student b. Parent c. Staff

2. Currently the uniform code/policy does not include a jacket. Jackets have been issued

previously as one off orders supported by the P&C. Please select one of the following. (Note- Jackets with non-detachable hoods or loose strings will not be permitted as part of Work, Health & Safety (WHS) requirements). Please circle one.

crest. c. Jacket with a base colour of black but may include other non-school markings and

logo’s. d. Only the school endorsed jacket with the school crest. e. No opinion.

4. The sport uniform is permitted to be worn to sporting events and Friday school sport.

Representative sport clothing such as Riverina and CHS are not currently part of uniform. Which of the following would you prefer? Circle only one

a. Sport uniform only with no representative sport clothing. b. Sport uniform to include representative sport clothing also. c. Representative sport clothing to be accepted as the sport and general uniform code. d. No opinion

would be consistent with school colours and include the crest on the front? a. Yes b. No c. No opinion

8. Do you feel any of the items in the uniform code are too expensive? If yes, please list the main

items. a. Yes b. No

9. Quality of the clothing is important to the school. Please list items below that you feel are low

quality.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey Benefits of wearing a school uniform will assist the school community in: Defining an identity for the school within its community

Developing students’ sense of belonging to the school community

Providing an opportunity to build school spirit

Enhancing the health and safety of students when involved in school activities

Promoting a sense of inclusiveness, non-discrimination and equal opportunity

Reinforcing the perception of the school as an ordered and safe environment

Increasing the personal safety of students and staff by allowing easier recognition of visitors and potential

intruders in the school

Promoting positive community perceptions of public education Making school clothing more affordable for families by eliminating the risk of peer pressure to wear

transiently fashionable and expensive clothes.

Northern Jets Junior Netball Match Reports Under 11’s We played Barellan on Saturday at Ariah Park. We were defeated 6-4 but it was a close game and the girls did well under tough conditions. It was the first game the girls played in wet, cold conditions. They all played well as a team and tried their best. The $10 Bowling club award went to Jo Bray for a great game especially her defending skills. The Elders canteen award went to Sarah Speirs who also played well in defence. The two girls stopped a lot of goals between them. The Delta towel went to Bethany Webb for showing a great improvement down the centre court.

To be included in the Ariah Park Community News, your ads/notices need to be received by

11am Friday (weekend sport excepted). All notices may be emailed to

Under 13’s Under 13’s played a great game against Barellan on Saturday, and we were fortunate to play in fairly good conditions compared to other teams. With a final score of 40 – 23 our way, all the girls had another fabulous game and played extremely well as a team. Elders Canteen Players/Player award went to Abbey Doyle who shone once again in Goal Shooter with an impressive 20 goals for the game. Best On Court Award sponsored by Ariah Park Bowling Club went to Isabelle Gaynor for her amazing play in goal defence and the Landmark Towel went to Paige Brown for her continuous consistent effort on the court both in Attack and Defence. Well done girls. You should be very proud of yourselves !! Under 15’s This week we played Barellan at Ariah Park on a very cold and wintery day. Our girls had great game and came away with a win. Our Ariah Park Bowling Club $10 was awarded to Chloe Minchin for her terrific defence. Olivia Harper was voted Elders Player’s Player and the prestigious Delta Towel was well earned by Ellie Walker who shot beautifully and defended well all game. Well done to all the girls who are continuing to improve each week. And to finish our day we have received an in depth analysis of the Canteen Ladies performance kindly provided by our on-the-spot reporter Erin O’Hare!!! Jets Canteen Ladies Performance Congrats on being Captain on Canteen Mrs Jones. Here is my match report.... It was a cold and wet start to the day but Amanda and Lucy had the team extremely well prepared. The team was led early by Captain Reckell, Katrina and Amy. Followed by a slow and steady gravy maker. Suzanne arrived and provided lots of cheeky fun, and umpired a game of netball. We were happy to welcome Leanne and hope to see more of their family. Team morale was high throughout the morning. Highlights included the Captain being advised that 'The customer is always right', after some belligerent behaviour. Best on Canteen definitely went to Katrina Morris for being an untiring player in the back pocket. What do you think about the towel, canteen, and Landmark award???
