Required VIRTUS Training and Fingerprints

Dear Holy Family Grade School Parents,

All volunteers (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, etc.) at Holy Family Grade School (HFGS)

need to have VIRTUS training in order to serve as a volunteer on the HFGS site or for other tasks in

which you have close contact with HFGS students (ex. driving HFGS students to and from school

events). This VIRTUS training will help you to protect our HFGS students.

If you have never attended any VIRTUS training, you will need to attend the 3-hour “Protecting God‟s

Children” VIRTUS certification training. A “Protecting God‟s Children” VIRTUS certification training

will be conducted at the HFGS Auditorium on Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00

noon. If you want to attend this VIRTUS certification training, you will need to register, in advance, by

contacting Ms. Elizabeth Jareno by telephone at (818)640-5412 or by e-mail at [email protected].

Because any VIRTUS training is valid for four years, you will need to attend another 3-hour VIRTUS

certification training class or a 1.5-hour “Keeping the Promise Alive” VIRTUS recertification training

within four years of your initial VIRTUS certification training. At the end of any VIRTUS training, you

will receive a VIRTUS certificate, which is valid for four years. You can find more information on

VIRTUS certification training and VIRTUS recertification training in nearby parishes by going online to

http://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/, click “Registration”, click “View a list of sessions”, and then select

your geographic area.

After you receive your VIRTUS training, you will need to be fingerprinted at a VIRTUS sanctioned

session. Immediately after you have been fingerprinted, you will be given a fingerprint document. You

only need to be fingerprinted once. You can find information on the date, time, and location of the

various VIRTUS sanctioned fingerprinting sessions by going on line to www.la-

archdiocese.org/org/ore/Pages/default.aspx, click “Fingerprinting & VPIN” under the “Protecting

Children” menu, and then click a fingerprinting schedule.

You will need to forward a copy of your latest VIRTUS certificate and fingerprint document to the HFGS

Office. If the HFGS Office does not have a copy of both of your VIRTUS documents, you may not have

many opportunities to perform your service hours. Unfortunately, you will be billed an hourly rate for

any service hours below the minimum value at the end of the school year. Because we want you to serve

as an HFGS volunteer while keeping our HFGS students safe, please submit your required VIRTUS

documents (i.e. latest VIRTUS certificate and fingerprint document) to the HFGS Office if you have not

done so already. Note that all VIRTUS certification training, VIRTUS recertification training, and

VIRTUS sanctioned fingerprinting sessions are free.

If you have any questions in regards to VIRTUS training and fingerprints, such as when your VIRTUS

training will expire or if you submitted all of your required VIRTUS documents to the HFGS Office,

please call Mrs. Marirose Martinez at 818.243.9239 Extension 110.

Thank you for your prompt cooperation on this important matter.
