October is Family
History Month
To celebrate Family History Month TGS will have a display at Hardesty Regional Library containing special
memorabilia loaned by TGS members. Take a few minutes to visit the display this month.
At our October meeting we will have a couple of special door-prizes for our guests. Liz Walker from the Tulsa Genealogy Center, will share about tracing those elusive cousins in our family trees. See you there!
Just for you... Do you have some documents or pictures you would like to have scanned? TGS will begin scanning services on the 1st Saturday of No-vember during the hours of 10 am-3 pm. San-dra Ford will be the volunteer and help with the scanning.
Bring:
your items (limit of 10)
a USB (thumb) drive
or a micro-mini sd memory card (camera card) which can be used to save your scans

SIG Family Tree Maker
The TGS SIG class meets 2nd Saturday each month at 10:10 AM at TGS Library. We are reviewing the
workspaces, Places Workspace and if time allows, the Media Workspace. For the last few months,
we have discussed creating a Family Tree and adding people and facts. Those who have been attending,
remember to review the lessons which are posted on the website and bring any questions you may have.
You also should have a family tree in Family Tree Maker to refer to in class. It will make the program
work much better for you if you can work along with the lesson during the class. We have so much fun
and we are learning quite a bit about the program and utilizing this particular resource.
If you are just beginning, we will help you catch-up. Bring your laptop, power cord or paper and pen for
note taking and some family information. See you Saturday, Oct.12th!

VERY IMPORTANT! The membership form on the website has changed. It is now a
“fillable” form into which your information can be entered and/or updated from your home computer.
You must follow these directions to utilize the form.
1. Click to open the membership form on the website. You will notice that all the blanks now contain
a blue highlight.
2. Click and type into the blanks any/all your information.
3. When finished entering your info, “Save As” the form to your desktop as
“yournamememform.pdf “, (i. e. “becknellmemform.pdf”. Use YOUR name in the place of
“Becknell”.) If you do not rename the file to save, your information will not be retained in the
attachment and Jeaneen will receive a “blank” form. Be sure to use Save As - not Save! This will allow
you to change the name of the document. Save it to your Documents or to the desktop so it will be
easy to find and attach to your mail to Jeaneen.
4. Attach the “saved” form (use the paperclip) to an email addressed to Jeaneen Darnell,
Membership Chair, ([email protected]). She will receive the attachment and use the new or
updated information for her membership records. If you are updating your form, note that in the
email or else she will be looking for an extra check from you.

September Workshop - ”Tulsa Pioneers”
Our program at the Tulsa Historical Society and Tulsa Genealogy Society’s collaborative meeting Sat. Sept. 28, was very good. We heard about some of Tulsa’s first pioneers who had major roles in shaping Tulsa to what it is today. Program Panelists included Jae Jaeger, Jenise Brantley, Marilyn Been, Ron Hardy and Dorothy Becknell.
The Oak Lawn Cemetery walk was precluded by the rain, but several of us had an interesting tour of THS. We discovered they are featuring First Ladies of Tulsa which complemented our presentation. If you haven’t been to THS, take a few hours and view this exhibit with your family.
Thank you, Loretta Bertalot, THS docent (and TGS member), for the tour. And thanks to THS for graciously hosting our program.
An impressive pamphlet on Oak Lawn Cemetery and some of it’s famous interments was authored by Jae Jaeger and printed by THS. If you would be interested in a copy, see Jae Jaeger.
If you were unable to attend the event, we missed you! TGS is your society - We depend upon your presence and support of all our programs.
Let’s tell the world! TGS Now has a Facebook Page! To show how
special you think TGS is, go to Facebook and like our page. Ask your friends and family to support us with their likes!
