Texas Travel Tips forTravel Season
Spring time is here so many Texans arebeginning to travel. Texas has nearly80,000 miles of roads and highways: That ismore than any other state in the UnitedStates (US)! As a result, it is important tokeep some traveling safety tips in mind.
Texas is full of beautiful sights anddestinations. Many places are spread fairlyfar apart, though. Planning your road trip isimportant. The Texas Department ofTransportation (TxDOT) established theTexas Travel Information Centersthroughout the state and they are staffed byprofessional travel counselors. These staffmembers will provide information on pointsof interest, events going on, "Welcome toTexas" photo opportunities, and more. Inaddition, they will help you plan the bestroute for your trip. These centers can becontacted by calling (800)452-9292 or byv i s i t i n ghttp://www.txdot.gov/driver/travel/information-centers.html. A week or so before a road trip is planned,make sure to check the vehicle'smaintenance status. This includes checkingthe tire pressure, oil level, engine, battery,etc. You can find a more complete list ofp r e - t r i p m a i n t e n a n c e a thttp://www.dmv.org/how-to-guides/pre-trip-maintenance.php. Also, ensure that youand your passengers have all the properpaperwork readily available in the vehicle
like your drivers licenses, proof ofinsurance for the vehicle, and road sideassistance contact information. Pack a papermap in case there is no cell phone service atsome point in your trip, as well. Before you take off on your trip, check theweather and road conditions. There areseveral useful websites for this. Be sure you and yourpassengers have a plan on a drivingschedule. Taking turns driving helps toreduce the risk of drowsy driving since thisbuddy system enables one to focus ondriving as the other rests and/or decides onmusic to listen to. Also, plan the stoppingpoints to take breaks and/or eat as youswitch drivers.
While driving, stay aware of yoursurroundings and stay alert especially whileyou are in construction zones, bad weather,and heavy traffic. Also, do not forget toslow down and/or move over if you seeemergency vehicles and/or tow trucks onthe side of the road with their lights onbecause it is the law! In addition, eliminateas many distractions as you can. Finally, besure you and your passengers are buckledup for the duration of the trip!
Traveling through Texas is a beautifuland fun experience. Make the most of it byplanning the trip, in full, beforehand. This
