    OCTOBER 22, 2019

The 2020 TABC clinic will be in San Antonio May 14-16. Thursday morning begins with the annual golf tournament and clinic registration beginning at noon at St. Mary’s University. Speakers will be on the floor at St. Mary’s Thursday afternoon and evening and on Friday morning and afternoon. Bill Self (Kansas men) and Kelly Graves (Oregon women) have already committed to speak. Speakers will move to our new host hotel, the San Antonio Airport Hilton, for Friday night and during the day on Saturday. The TABC All-Star games will be played at the Blossom Athletic Center and the All-Star banquet and Hall of Fame induction banquet will be at the Hilton ballroom on Thursday and Saturday respectively. Additional speakers will be announced as they are confirmed. TABC has negotiated special clinic prices with the new host hotel and other nearby hotels. Look for more information on those soon.

TABC in association with the Texas Athletic Directors Association is again offering complimentary membership to Texas Athletic Directors, Principals and Superinten-dents. Many of these people are former coaches and friends of basketball. We wel-come them and would like their input on how we can help their basketball programs. If your administrators would like to join TABC, all we need is their e-mail address so they can receive our newsletter and a mailing address where we can send their mem-bership card. Please share this information with administrators. We would like to say welcome to those who have already joined. We appreciate your support.

People , P laces and Things We are sad to report that the husband of Jill Kendall, Meridian girls head coach, passed away on September 27. Gerry Kendall, 50, was born February 19, 1969 in Korat, Thailand to his parents Oscar and Chird Kendall.

He married Jill (Thackerson) Kendall and they raised four children together. Gerry graduated from Tarleton State University with a bachelor’s degree and worked as an engineer for the City of Waco. He was a member of the Church of the First Born. Our prayers go out to the Kendall family.

Coaches Directories Will Be Sent Soon

The first edition of the TABC Head Coaches Directory has been sent to all members via e-mail. The di-rectory includes every Texas high school head basketball coach who joined TABC for 2019-20 as of Oc-tober 16, 2019. If you are a head coach, please check the directory to make sure we have all of your in-formation correct. We will send out two more editions (one in January and the final edition in March) and include all head coaches who have joined at that point. Please let us know if we need to make any corrections or if any of your information has changed and we will correct it in the next edition.

  • Hoops for Hope - Texas Style TABC would again like to encourage our members to send us any news on activities in

which your teams participate involving raising funds in the fight against cancer and other dis-

eases or this season to raise funds for the victims of hurricane Harvey. We have called our co-

ordinated effort Hoops for Hope – Texas Style in order to include the many causes for which

you raise money. Many schools have hosted fundraisers to provide assistance for, or in honor

of, local teachers, coaches, students or residents. Some have mirrored the NCAA Coaches vs.

Cancer efforts where both opposing coaches wear basketball shoes during their game. Others

have hosted “Pink Out” events which have raised funds for “The Cure.” This season, many are

adopting a school that was hard hit by the flooding along the Texas coast. Please send TABC

news and pictures you have from your events during the season. They serve to give you and

your team recognition for your efforts and also to give others ideas on how they might be able

to help as well. Keep up the good work and let us hear about it.

The pre-season rankings are up on the TABC web site www.tabchoops.org The rankings are based on all of the information that has been received up to this point and are always a topic for discussion and often a motivation for some teams. The pre-season rankings are an effort to pick the teams most likely to make the final four in San Antonio in the top ten, and those most likely to make the regional final four in the top 25. The weekly rankings will appear on the TABC web site beginning November 12 and will also be sent to media outlets via the Associated Press. The list of District Favorites, which predicts the top four in each district will be up on the TABC website on November 4.
