“We recently performed a concert for 500,000 people, yet it didn’t compare with the joy my wife Valerie and I felt
when we entered the lobby of the retirement center and a radiant, smiling lady in a wheelchair said to us “welcome
back I recognize you from last year, so happy you’re here!” The nurse next to her added “she is 102 years old isn’t
she something?” Then to see the smiling faces of the carolers looking like one big happy family, I thought “this is
what Christmas and the holiday season is all about.

I want to take this time to personally thank you all for a job well done. This was my first experience with the Denison
Christmas Carolers. My staff shared with me how much the residents enjoy this annual festivity and how much effort
by so many volunteers who give unselfishly of their time is put into this event. It was an awesome experience; one
which I will continue to talk about for many years within the aging community.
The joy on the faces of the residents was heart-warming and one I will remember for a lifetime. As a gerontologist, I
understand how important it is to the aging population to listen to music and the singing of songs they have heard
and enjoyed throughout their lifetime; especially those with dementia as they are able to engage in the childhood
memories which brings a smile to their face as they find peace within those memories which include loved ones from
their past. Most all of us are familiar with the traditional Christmas songs and the magic of Christmastime, and
through the experience shared with the Denison Christmas Carolers, aging adults are provided with an unforgettable
evening of socialization and engagement.
This was such a great way to start the holiday and the residents continue to share how much they enjoyed their
evening. I wish you all the best for the New Year and I look forward to the 6th Annual Denison Christmas Caroling
Festivities. Thank you all once again for giving so much to the aging adults that reside within the many facilities
throughout Denison, Iowa. I encourage you to continue to grow nationwide so more residents living within assisted
living facilities and nursing homes may experience this joy at Christmastime. Sincerely,
From: Vera Zakuto-Fairwinds-West Hills-Program Director- 8138 Woodlake Ave, West Hills, CA Sent: December 05, 2011 To: Vincent Leinen - “I have no words to express the excitement that your program put in my residents face. Even the ones that never gets out of their chairs were dancing and singing. They are saying that so far it was the best entertainment they had in here. Your carolers, musicians and every single person that was part this amazing program need to know how grateful they all are. Thanks for bringing so much joy to them” Sincerely

First and foremost, Thank you FIN for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit our elderly and serve your
community with such nurturing, loving and joyful spirit! We had a great time caroling with Vincent J. Leinen. It was
no joke when he said you have to experience it to believe it. I was amazed how simple it was to just walk, sing,
smile, and warmly greet one another. So little-yet monumental to those who lack company, especially around this
time of year. I observed seeing the residents’ faces light up: how they requested to have the curtain pulled back
so they can have front-row view of what was happening. Moving (flapping) their feet for those that were unable to
clap their hands or even smile. Even the efforts they made to find the strength and show us gratitude and
appreciation. In retrospection, to cherish today as we don’t always know God’s plan. I can only speak of my own
experience, would love to hear about yours at our next gathering or through e-mail. Please share…..
On a lighter “note” (hehehehee), the celebrity band that gave so much with such love and devotion, truly priceless.
Impromptu jamming sessions with such talent: celebrity band, solos, encores….need I say more? Lastly, we parted
late in the evening from Home Town Buffet after socializing and meeting others from different parishes and
organizations at the post caroling wrap party.
Thank you Vincent J. Leinen for organizing FIN's December Event, Thank You West Hills Health &

in a Row”: - OMAHA (KPTM) - Seniors at the ‘Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center' received some special
guests this afternoon. It's an event that they look forward to every year, as the halls of the center are filled with
carolers, cookies, and Christmas cheer. Amy Schrek of the Rehabilitation center said, "A lot of our residents don't
have family that come in. So, it's a great opportunity for them to see people and have someone sing with them, and
they sing back." Jean Jackson, who has been at the center for six months, said the event puts a smile on her
face. "This is really nice because it keeps people in here happy," said Jackson. Smiles were around every corner as
the halls of the center were filled with a violinist playing ‘Ave Maria,' guitar players strumming out ‘Jingle Bells,' and
carolers belting ‘Feliz Navidad.' This is the 37th year for the indoor caroling.

to being a part of this magical event, where we are able to bring the residents a small piece of the magical spirit of
Christmas, as we share the unconditional loving spirit of our canine family members, bringing a special spark of joy
to the eyes of those needing the companionship and caring the most. Seeing joy in the eyes of those who have long
histories of past dogs of their own, enjoying once again, the love that a dog can give, brings me the true Christmas
spirit in my own life, and is a warm and wonderful gift that is not wrapped beneath a tree. Thank you for this gift.

Thank-you! We here at Nebraska Skilled Nursing would like to take this time to express our appreciation for the
incredible performance which was brought to our facility and has been coming back for the past 38 years!! The hard
work and dedication which goes into this does not go unseen. Vincent gives everything he has all year round to
make this special day happen. On this day spirits are lifted and smiles are seen throughout our building. Singing and
laughter rings down our halls and you just know that the lives of our seniors have been touched. The holidays are a
difficult time, most of our population does not have family or friends to visit them and this is just what they need to
brighten up their holiday season. Just one example is one of our residents who is 104 years old… she still
remembers the carolers year to year and will sing along with the children to her favorite Christmas songs! The staff
and residents particularly want to really thank Vincent and all the carolers who put their heart and soul into this
occasion and come to our facility, dedicating their time to spend with us. We cannot thank you enough. As always
we look forward to seeing you next you next year!! Nebraska Skilled Nursing

done. The caroling event yesterday was a smash! As a first timer I would like to say that I had a great time and I
know those that were also there from the SJW 11:30 choir did as well. And of course most importantly, I believe the
people that we visited were uplifted with our visit and the music. The event was full of nice surprises as there were
many people that I knew as well as many wonderful "new" musical friends to meet. As I mentioned on the phone I
was most impressed with the singer you said was named "Robin" something. I found her performance of "O Holy
Night" to be a true highlight for me. Not only was she a phenomenal singer and entertainer but she reached out in a
very special way to many of the assisted living patients. She came and hugged quite a few of us after her song and
we all felt a nice connection. Vincent, I would very much like to participate again so please add my email address to
your mailing list. Many thanks & all the blessings of the season to you. Dennis Gerard Snyder
