3. Software guidelines: a. Software compatibility :

Printing Company Verstraete will process your artwork using Art Pro software, in a Mac OSX environment. We therefore ask that your lay out is made in either: - Art Pro 8.4 - Adobe Indesign CS3 - Adobe Illustrator CS3 - QuarkXpress 7

Native files will only be seen as addition to your lay out file. We strongly encourage the delivery of those native files for future processing or corrections.

Supported software for native files are :

- ArtPro + Artcolor(8.4) - Adobe Illustrator CS3 - Adobe Photoshop CS3 - Adobe Indesign CS3 - Quark XPress 7 - File types: PDF, Tif, EPS, PSD, AI, DCS.

File types which are not supported by the mentioned software applications are not accepted. For example: CDR, DXF or DWG files. Do not create PDF files from CorelDRAW/Freehand because we encouter import problems with

images and gradients.

b. Extra guidelines :

1. ArtPro files: - Supply files with internal contone images. If you can’t supply these, please send a Hires PDF along with the Artpro file. - Manual Trapping: • Spread/choke : 0,03 – 0,1 mm - Do not use automatic trapping

2. Adobe Illustrator: - Change the Document raster settings to 300 ppi and check the “Preserve Spot Colors” box. - Do not apply trapping - Save with PDF compatibility - Work in CMYK mode

3. Adobe Indesign: - You can download a profile to export your file to a PDF format for Printing Company Verstraete’s website. - Do not apply trapping

4. PDF files: - For a quick processing of your label, we ask to make one pdf for each label. Do not make one PDF with all your labels. To make a good PDF, you can download an Acrobat profile from Printing Company Verstraete’s website. - Do not apply trapping

4. File guidelines:

a. Text - Minimum text size : for both positive and negative text a minimum of 6 pt is applicable.

- A minimum distance of 3 mm from text areas to cut lines needs to be respected. - Live text should be converted to outlines or fonts should be subsetted. Due to legal reason we do not encourage you to deliver files with live text.

b. Images

- All used images need to be supplied at a resolution of 300 dpi (280 dpi is an absolute minimum). - All images need to be placed in the artwork at 100%. - All images should be in CMYK mode. - Logo’s need to be supplied at a resolution of 2400 dpi. - Maximum of 8 colours.

c. Miscellaneous

- Barcode: in order to avoid any possible misreading of the printed barcode the following scaling (resizing) factor can only be applicable. (Min 80% - Max 200%) - Bar Width Reduction 0,051 mm.

- Ink coverage: a maximum of 270%.

- Maximum of 8 colours can be used in your artwork.

- Do not apply trapping (unless using Artpro and manual trap method - no automatic trapping)

- Dot not apply any screening angles.

- Dot gain compensation: please supply uncompensated files. The overall dot gain behaviour is depending on different variables (eg. base foil, screening, ink, ...). Therefore we apply the appropriate dot gain curve ourselves.

- Bleed: around the label we need to have 5 mm of bleed (on all sides).

- Inside the label do not place any text / logo’s / important elements within 3 mm of the edge.

- The use of blendmodes / transparancies has become very popular. However some blendmodes cause problems when they are sent to a RIP. Multiply / Screen / Darken / ... are safe to use. HSL blends however cannot be used.

5. Label dimensions and shapes Using the correct label dimensions is key for the successful of a new IML project. Please ask us for

the right key-line to import your artwork elements. For bended wrap-around labels, we will supply you a rectangular key-line, corresponding to the warped shape of the conical container.

6. Colour proof Printing Company Verstraete has invested in a GMG colour proofing device. The GMG colour

proof is one of the standards for contract proofing. Therefore we can produce a colour c onsistent proof, allowing to check for CMYK colours. For an exact reference of Pantone colours, a separate reference can be supplied (produced on the IGT unit).

Design agencies working with a GMG RIP and an Epson 9880: For delivered GMG proofs, please use Printing Company Verstraete’s MX4 file. An exact matching of our press characteristics can be supplied by means of an output profile. Please contact your Account Excecutive for the necessary arrangements.

7. Delivery of corrections Printing company Verstraete has the tools to perform artwork and text corrections. All requested

corrections must precisely be supplied to avoid any possible confusion. - For text corrections we request a text document with the corrections. Fax pages can only be seen as a back up. - For text corrections with special characters, we ask you to send us a PDF/EPS/AI file where the characters have been converted to outlines. Major corrections to the artwork may be refused as Printing Company Verstraete is not a design agency. In doubt what kind of corrections can be made, please contact your Account Executive.

8. Artwork control at Printing Company Verstraete Files supplied to Printing Company Verstraete are imported in ArtPro. The following checks are

made on each file:

- Screening - Barcode - Trapping - Colours - Size (keyline) - Resolution - Converting rectangular labels into conic labels

9. Design Tips: 1: Text free areas

Please respect 4 mm text free area from key-line (edge) of the label. This is to be sure no information has disappeared after final cutting of the labels. We print on plastic film which is elastic, and causes a print-to-cut tolerance of +/- 1,5 mm. (image tolerance)

Also respect a text free area around the injection point on the label (diameter of 1 to 1,5 cm). To know exact location of this injection point on the label, please consult the packaging supplier. Remark: also no EAN-code possible in this area.

2: Color border in your label design

In case you would apply a color border in your label design, we recommend you strongly to make this color border 4 mm thick (internal color area), to mask our image tolerance of up to 1,5mm.

3: Color strength on transparent labels

Colors look much stronger and vivid on white, opaque films compared to a transparent label substrate. Even when we print 1 or 2 layers of white ink ( SuperWhite) under the colors, we can never match the color strength on a white film!

Therefore avoid to mix white and transparent label types on 1 packaging: for example label printed on white film for lid, and label printed on transparent film for the base: the colors will differ largely !

4: Matching of graphic elements at junction line

For wrap-around labels we recommend strongly not to split graphic ele-ments in at the left and right edge of a wrap-around label. At the junction line, these graphic elements will never match perfectly, due to the image tolerance we have. (delta in position up to 1,5mm between left and right side).
