Her parents placed her in an orphanage at an early age.

The influence of this orphanage was to dominate Chanel and her designs all her life.

After spending her youth living in austere measures and with strict discipline, Chanel left the orphanage.

She took with her not just her needlework skills, but more importantly a fiercedesire to be “Someone”

She would never allow herself to be looked down on again.

To supplement her small income she worked in the evenings in a local bar

Here she was famous for singing a popular song“Ko Ko Ri Co”

One of the first important Men in her life introduced her into High Society

Through his lifestyle Chanel discovered a love for outdoor pursuits, especially horse riding.

She loved the efficient, neat tailored look.

This was to become a main influence upon Chanel in her later work.

Boy Capel, financed Chanel to open a hat shop in Paris, On the Rue Cambon.

Boy Capel was a very wealthy English Industrialist, he was the Love of Chanel’s Life.

He encouraged Chanel to open a second boutique.

This boutique was located in the wealthy South of France in Biaritz.

Chanel responded to the beach inspired life by creating a looser softer style of clothing

using Jersey.This caused a revolution in fashion as Chanel had used a men’s Underwear fabric for women’s outerwear

It proved to be a huge success and was a definitive moment in the story of Chanel
