A Publication of the TESDA Women’s Center 2 nd Quarter April - June 2015 The TESDA Women’s Center (TWC) in partnership with Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation (SEPCO) launched the “TESDA-Samsung Consumer Electron- ics Servicing Training Laboratory” on June 17, 2015 located at the 2nd Floor, Electronics Workshop, TESDA Women’s Center, TESDA Complex, East Service Road, South Super- highway, Taguig City. The joint activity is a concrete testimony of the partnership forged TESDA-SAMSUNG consumer electronics servicing training laboratory launching at the TWC by Lucy Tabu between TESDA and SEPCO stipulated in a Memorandum of Agreement signed last December 2014. It includes a donation from SEPCO of all the necessary serviceable equipment, tools and training materials to be used for training and a 7-day Training of Train- ers participated in by 8 TESDA Trainers. The partnership program seeks to ensure a steady supply of highly skilled workers in the electron- ics industry. It will also benefit the graduates thru opportunities for immediate employment and a chance to specialize in the repair of Samsung products like audio-video equipment, domestic appliances such as washing machine, microwave oven, vacuum cleaner, hand held phones, refrigerator and air-conditioning units. Ms. Mary Go Ng, Vice Presi- dent, Federation of Filipino- Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) was the guest speaker in this event. She extended a warm greetings to all the graduates espe- cially those who were employed already. She stressed the important role that women play in our society. “Hardwork, honesty, love for work and humility, these are the important things you should always remember,” says Ms. Go Ng. An awards night for TVET institutions’ ex-cellence was held at the Marco Polo Hotel, Ortigas, Manila on June 22, 2015 which high-lighted the International Conference on TVET Skills Development for Poverty Alleviation, En-trepreneurship, and Employability organized by the Colombo Plan Staff College headed by Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub, Director General.

The recipient member countries of the APACC awards were Malaysia, Mongolia and the Philippines. The TESDA Women’s Center was one of those conferred with plaques ofrecognition as Silver-level accredited institution in the Philippines for its second cycle of ac-creditation. The TWC garnered a score rang-ing from 401-450 points valid for 3 years. The award was received by Ms. Maria Clara B. Ignacio, TWC Chief. TWC Supervising TESD Specialist, Ms. Mylene Somera and Ms. Lucy Tabu also attended the event.

Other Silver-level awardees in thePhilippines were the Korea Philippines Voca-tional Training Center, Davao City (KORPHIL), Puerto Princesa School of Arts and Trades(PPSAT), Palawan and Lupon School of Fisher-ies (LSF), Davao Oriental.

The bronze-level accredited TVET insti-tutions were Dumalag Vocational Technical School (DTVS), and Dipolog School of Fisher-ies (DSF).

TWC receives APACC award for excellenceby Lucy Tabu

The School of Nursing in Mongolia was also awarded Silver-level. Four TVET institu-tions in Malaysia received Gold-level awards namely, Politeknik Kota Bharu (PKB), Polite-knik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (POLISAS),Politeknik Seberang Perai (PSP), and Polite-knik Sultan Azlan Shah (PSAS). The Deputy Director General for TESD Operations and Chairman of the CPSC Governing Board, Atty. Teodoro C. Pascua conferred the awards to the newly Gold-level-accredited APACC institutions of Malaysia. The Deputy Director General for Policies and Planning, Irene M. Isaac who rep-resented the Director General of TESDA, Sec-retary Joel Villanueva, gave a Special Address. She stressed that “we should make TVET the vehicle for uplifting the quality of life and dignity of the poor. There is so much to share and dis-cuss in TVET and poverty alleviation.” She also applauded the work initiated by the Champion leaders, and as a challenge she said, “But we need more champion leaders in the region.”

CPSC’s member-country delegates from Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Fiji, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myan-mar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand participated in the international conference. The APACC awards night was filled with joyful wishes and cheers as the awards for excellence were conferred to the TVET institu-tions that passed the APACC accreditation.

in Consumer Electronics Servicing under the Dual Training System (DTS) which started on May 4, 2015 and they will be deployed toSamsung Service Centers for On-the-job training (OJT). Thru the DTS delivery, the trainees shall undergo 2 months in-center training and 3 months OJT with a daily allowance equivalent to 75% of the minimum wage during their OJT.

Atty. Teodoro C. Pascua, Deputy Direc-tor General for TESD Operations delivered the Welcome Remarks during the launching program. Ms. Maria Clara B. Ignacio, Chief,TESDA Women’s Center acknowledged the officials and guests. Mr. Seungho Jee, Direc-tor, Service Operations for SEPCO gave an inspiring message to the trainees. The TESDADirector General, Sec. Joel Villanueva also gave another powerful message. The highlight of the event was the Ribbon Cutting and Unveil-ing of Marker. The event also included a photo opportunity and tour of the Laboratory. The 26 trainees together with selected officials from TESDA and SEPCO witnessed the launching activity.

He shared 6 formulas for success namely: 1) Know yourself; 2) Set you own goal/vision; 3) Sharpen the tools (prac-tice a lot); 4) Push yourself and go beyond the limits; 5) Prayer and hardwork; 6) Share your blessings and be a blessings to others.

The TESDA Women’s Center Sports Festival is an annual event of the TWC trainees to compete with each other in sports, glamour and fun activities.

Three (3) teams are vying to achieve the championship title of the TWC Sports Fest 2015. The teams are as follows: 1) Black Team – “Black Warriors”; 2) Fuchsia Team – “Cherry Bombs”; and 3) Green Team – “Green Lanterns.”

On April 27, 2015 the 4-day event of the TWC Sports Fest officially started with an early morning Zumba Activity of the staff and trainees at the Tandang Sora Hall. After the dance-workouts, it was followed by the oath of sportsmanship led by the TWC Trainees’ Council President Jake Juleous Brian A. Gacang of Food and Beverage Services NC II.

After the formal opening of the sports fests, the elimi-nation game of table tennis, chess, darts, badminton and volleyball commenced, each group with the other group until the first two (2) groups who won twice face each other in the finals.

In the afternoon, a display of beauty, talents and wits from the representatives of each group vying for the Bini-bining Palaro competition was held.

Another competition, on April 28, 2015 was the battle of talents in total performance, popu-larized by the hit TV show “Your face sounds familiar.” Group representatives were required to impersonate an assigned artist and to perform their hit song. After the individual performances, Ms. Kristeljem Ann C. Aguilar of Green Team – “Green Lanterns” won the competition. Cheerlead-ing action is up next.

The Cheerleading competition displays team coordination while doing stunts and acrobatic moves while dancing to their background music. Three (3) groups performed and impressed the judges however, only one group stands-out and proclaimed as the winner of the cheering competi-tion the Green Team – “Green Lanterns.”

In the end of the event, the Green Team – “Green Lan-terns” was declared the champion of the 2015 TWC Sports Fest. It was also a fun time for the staff and the trainees to showcase theirtalents in sports, promote socializa-tion, awareness of the value of team work, and build trust and confidence be-tween teammates through games and other physical activi-ties.

The TESDA Women’s Center joined in this year’s skills competition in the area of Restaurant Service. Ms. Ciara Jace Marquez, an 18-year old graduate of Food & Beverage Services (FBS) NC II of Ms. MariaRegina C. Ansay was one among the three competitors in RestaurantService during the District Skills Competition of MuntiParLas – TaPat DistrictOffice. The competition was held on July 8-10, 2015 at Lyceum ofAlabang. Ms. Marquez won the gold medal award and competed in the TESDA-NCR Regional Skills Competition.

There were seven competitors who came from different institutions and districts in NCR that vied for the gold medal in the regional skills com-petition held on August 24 – 27, 2015 at the TWC. The competitors were rated/ assessed on the five (5) criterions namely Food Service Skills, Beverage and Coffee Service Skills, Special Task at Table Side, Social and Commercial Skills and Personal Presentation. Ms. Marquez won the 3rd place in the regional skills competition.

Also, Ms. Irene B. Mortel and Ana Marie Gatchalian, TWCDressmaking and Automotive trainers respectively served as jury in their field of specialization during the regional skills competition.
