Terrex ContractingTerrex Contracting has provided seismic line preparation and restoration services to the Australian seismic industry since 1991.

Terrex Contracting’s environmentally conscious line clearing methods were developed through five years of consultation with company specialists, seismic contractors, bulldozer operators, environmental consultants and landowners.

Terrex Contracting employs over 20 skilled and experienced machine operators, mechanics and crew managers to provide safe, high quality services to a range of clients involved in seismic acquisition services, rig-site preparation and access road-building.

The range of services provided by Terrex Contracting includes:

•Environmentallysustainablegeneralearthmovingservices

•2D/3Dseismiclinepreparation,restorationandreportingservices•Constructionofaccesstracks,drillandwellpads,pipeline easements and camp site foundations

Terrex Contracting has developed innovative seismic line preparation and restoration techniques. These techniques are verified with a rigorous system of establishing, photographing and documenting Environmental Monitoring Points before and after the seismic acquisition project. This ensures that the seismic contractor and client comply with all governmental and environmental responsibilities and has resulted in Terrex Contracting being the preferred seismic line contractor for a number of state regulators.

Case study Bunda 3D Seismic Survey, Canning Basin WA (Buru Energy)

Environmental management of the line preparation and rehabilitation

Buru Energy engagedTerrex Seismic to conduct a 223 km2seismic survey over the Sundown oilfield and surrounding areas,located70kmeastofthetownshipofDerby(WesternAustralia).

The client’s objectives included conducting the Bunda 3DSeismic Survey in an environmentally sound way to ensure that the cleared lines were rehabilitated as soon as possible.

The main field activities included:•Linepreparation(accesslinepreparationandsurveying)•Dataacquisition(surfaceseismicacquisition)•Postsurveydemobilising,rehabilitationandmonitoring

Terrex‘s successful completion of the project was achieved through:

• Careful planning, strict environmental guidelines and expert line preparation, reducing the amount of seismic line rehabilitation required

• Zero safety and environment incidents, demonstrating Terrex’s commitment to health, safety and environment

•The use of an in-vehicle monitoring system, to ensure speed limits were adhered to in order to avoid degradation and dust caused by excessive speed

Seismic Exploration Surveys

Terrex Spatial undertakes all the line pointing and line surveying requirements of each seismic survey. LinepointingandsurveyingutilisethelatestGPStechnology, operatedbyexperiencedfieldpersonnelwith particular expertise in seismic GPS surveying.

Through the synergies experienced by combining LiDAR, environmental and cultural heritage surveying and GPS technology, Terrex Spatial is able to efficiently pre-plan seismic surveys. This effectively minimises the potential impacts to culture and environment, as well as reducing exposure to hazards for all field staff.

Geodetic Control Surveys Applications for accurate geodetic surveys include:• Geodetic control surveys • Well location surveys • Control for aerial photography

Gravity Surveys UsingaLCRGravityMeter, theTerrexSpatialteamhasdevelopedtechniquesthatcombinethelatestinGPS, Gravity meters and computing technology, to provide accurate and cost-effective surveys.

The innovative, air-borne technology scans the ground with an array of laser pulses which record and depict ground formations. Once processed, the featured physical surface can be mapped to an extremely high resolution. Using this technology, Terrex Spatial can provide a fast and efficientmethod to attain high resolution imagery and topography over a large area.

This dataset provides a valuable tool during the survey planning stage, reducing and focusing the efforts for on-ground scouting. Through better pre-planning, environmental impact and H&S exposure for field staff is reduced.

Terrain Modelling Accurate, cost-effective surveys using GPS and computing technology for applications including:• Digital terrain modelling • Irrigation planning • Flood studies

GIS Applications The integrity of any GIS is determined by the quality and organisation of its spatial data. Terrex Spatial uses GIS Services to capture, store, analyse, manage, and present data with reference to geographic location data for the following surveys:

• Data transformation and conversion • Capture of Digital Road Centreline and footpaths • Infrastructure and asset mapping
