Terratek carries out dynamic loading tests on structures usingadvanced vibration analysis techniques and state-of-the art
elec tronics. The tests are totally non-destructive and non-
intrusive.
The equipment used to take measurements is a very sensitive 24-bit vibration recorder. It is so accurate that is able to measuredisplacements o the order of magnitude of the wavelength oflight. Therefore there os no need to induce artificial vibrations, aswe measure the response due to ambient loading like wind,traffic, waves or temperature.
This technology has been successfully applied to many structures,
including bridges, steel tower, tall buildings, dams, harbour and
offshore structures.

Mathematical modelling
The next step is to build a dynamic mathematical model of the structure through astructural dynamics software. Initially the model outputs the undamaged behaviour.Then, structural damage is simulated on a trial and error process until the structure outputsresonance frequencies that match with the measurements. At this stage the model iscalibrated and its behaviour matches the actual structure. Then, the mathematicalmodel can be used to check the behaviour under an type of loading.

On-line real time vibration measurements
Terratek carries out continous on-line structural monitoring. This enables a continuouscheck on damage level and structural aging. In this case, vibration monitors are fixedon selected structural members on the structure and linked to the internet. Acomputer program analyses vibration data, yielding spectra, velocities, displacementsand damping.
