    I. INTRODUCTION

    We typically see in packs of cigarettes the words, “Warning: Cigarette Smoking is

    Dangerous to your Health.” his only means that using cigarettes is dangerous and if you really

    want to use it, it should !e in minimal amount only. "ut despite this warning, there are still

    countless people who are addicted to cigarette smoking. #n fact, out of all the $ices a person

    could ha$e, cigarette smoking is the most widespread of all, especially in our country. %$ery

    corner, e$ery street, we see people smoking nonchalantly. %$en the famous cele!rities, political

    figures, and influential people are seen smoking, too and it is also !ecause of media that we see

    these things. "ecause of the nationwide ha!it of smoking in our society, it wouldn&t !e a surprise

    if also our teenagers are already engaging in smoking $ice.

    eenage smoking is considered as one of those issues that is currently de!ata!le and is on

    the go$ernment&s radar as they are still trying to find solutions to eliminate teenage smoking. he

    num!er of teenagers engaging in smoking is still rapidly dou!ling, and with the fast

    moderni'ation of our society, the pro!lem is nowhere near e(tinction.

    youngsters are now doing it also. 0!out the worsening issue of teenage smoking, what are the

    effects, !oth physical and social, that is associated with this $ice1

    II. OBJECTIVES

    his term paper aims to know or disco$er the effects of smoking in teenagers physically

    and socially. his paper also aimed to disco$er the reasons why these teenagers started engaging

    in cigarette smoking at an early age and how cigarette smoking dramatically changed their li$es.

    #ncluded also is some ways to stop teenagers in their smoking.

    III. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

    his study is important !ecause it focuses on the pro!lem that is pre$alent in our society,

    is still an issue de!ated at the go$ernment, and is still without proper solution.

    his study is not only important to the researchers !ut also to the teenagers in our society.

    his study will gi$e them an idea how cigarette smoking at a young age will affect their physical

    conditions and their li$es. 0lso, this study will help the parents all around to discipline and guide

    their children to stop smoking or a$oid smoking.

    IV. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY

    his study focuses only on the effects of smoking on the physical condition and social

    status of teenagers at the City of "ais. Herein is also information a!out the reasons why these

    teens started engaging in cigarette smoking.

    VI. REVIE$ OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

    0ccording to the World Health 2rgani'ation, almost half of the teenage population in the

    )hilippines, particularly !etween the ages of */+, is taking pleasure in cigarette smoking.

    hey&re a portion of the estimated 34,444 to 4,444 0sian teenagers that engages in cigarette

    smoking at an early age due to lack of laws pertaining the !anning of to!acco and the endless

     propagandas and promotions a!out it in our country. 0s a matter of fact, one out of three middle/

    aged men dies !ecause of cigarette smoking. #t is foreseen that in the ne(t couple of months, the

    num!ers will rise due to the epidemic cigarette smoking of teens in the )hilippines.

    VII. METHODOLOGY

    he information and data in this study are taken from sources like !ooks, internet, and the

    sur$ey conducted.

    5or the sur$ey # conducted, # decided to use the Descripti$e Sur$ey esearch Design,

    which uses sur$ey =uestionnaires as the means for collecting data. # chose this kind of sur$ey

    method for this study for it would !e most efficient for collecting data from the respondents in a

    minimal amount of time.

    5or the participants or respondents of this study, there are ten A+4B teenagers and high

    school students that are residing in "ais City. # chose the respondents !ecause they are

    approacha!le and the most effecti$e ones to !e e(tracted data from.

    VIII. RESULTS AND OBSERVATIONS

    he respondents of this study are teenage smokers that are currently in high school.

    during mornings and !ecause once you get used to it, restraining yoursel$es from smoking

     !ecomes the most difficult thing.” 0nd for the remaining three respondents that answered >2,

    there is a reason #&m fond of. She =uoted “Cigarette smoking is really a hard ha!it to !reak !ut if 

    # really want to, # could control my smoking !y using the money to !uy candies, instead of 

    cigarette sticks.”

    ingredients of a cigarette that causes addicting sensation while

    2ne of the effects of cigarette smoking on a person&s !ody that one of the respondents had

    e(perienced is the !lackening of her mouth. his is !ecause of the ingredient ar which is the

    reason for the color change in the mouth of regular smokers. he respondents also said that

    e$er since they started smoking, their !ody&s resistance to sickness weakens and they find it

    difficult to do things, especially strenuous ones.

    hese are Kust some of the countless harmful effects of smoking to a teenager&s physical

    condition. 2ther effects that are associated with cigarette smoking are dramatic increase in

     !lood pressure, cataracts, lung cancer, mouth cancer, throat cancer, o$arian cancer, etc. %$en

    though the effects of smoking are the same in e$ery smoker&s !ody, the effects are more

    intense and dangerous to teenagers since their !odies are still not mature enough.

    0ny one of us wants to truly !elong to the society we are in, especially us teenagers

    which make fitting in a priority. "ut, how can cigarette smoking affect the interaction of these

    youngsters to other people1

    2ne of the respondents, “%$ery time # smoke, # feel so light, so free. #t&s almost as # can

    do e$erything.” "ecause of this, it is una$oida!le that a teenage smoker could not care less a!out

    what he7she does. hat is why many of these teenage smokers, if not always, are often in$ol$ed

    in fights. hey also learn to cut class. 0lso, their respect for elders and authorities shri$eled down

    and now they ha$e the courage to talk !ack to their parents.

    2ne of the reasons that this teenage re!ellions happen is !ecause maKority of the parents

    doesn&t know that their children are already smoking. 2ne of the =uestions in the sur$ey goes

    LDo your parents know a!out you smoking1& only of the respondents ha$e parents that know

    the status of their children. "ut e$en if they know, they still can&t gi$e proper guidance to their 

    children to stop smoking. %$en !y hook or !y crook, they can&t seem to stop their children from

    smoking. ime would pass !y and they would already !ecome immune to their children&s

    smoking.

    know, they would !e scold, would !e forced to stop school, or !e tortured !y them. 2nce

    teenagers started smoking, they started to de$elop fear of facing their parents and telling them

    that their children are smoking.

    5or the =uestion, LDo you know the effects of cigarette smoking1& all of them answered

    %S. hese teenagers ha$e had ideas a!out what would happen to them !ecause of their 

    smoking. he only pro!lem is they ha$e !ecome really attached and addicted to smoking that&s

    why they find it a struggle to stop it. hey said that their parents cannot maKorly help them and

    there are no other people that are helping them in regards with their smoking pro!lems. he

    longer the time they spent smoking, the more their !odies !ecome more immune. 0nd !ecause of 

    this immunity, their !odies could no longer feel the maKor damages smoking had !rought to

    them, physically and socially. 0nd little did they know, they are slowly killing themsel$es

    su!consciously and it will !e too late.

    I4. CONCLUSION

    0t the end of this term paper, the researcher therefore conclude the following:

    first, our society today is a witness that the num!er of teenage smokers are gradually increasing

    day !y day and teenagers who smoke starts at a more younger ageO second, peer pressure is the

    main reason why these teenagers started smoking and coming in second is !ecause they

    e(periences depression or great difficulties, ne(t is !ecause of family, and lastly is !ecause of 

    curiosityO third, the effects of smoking that adults are e(periencing are also e(perienced !y

    these teenage smokers. he !odies of teenage smokers are !ecoming weaker and weaker and

    are e(periencing health complications and they find it hard to do strenuous works. 0lso, the

    way they treat the people around them also changes. hey are often in$ol$ed in fights and

    rum!les. heir smoking has also greatly affected their studies.

     people you hang out with are a good e(ample or role model to you that could also help you

    with your smoking pro!lems.

    #n all honesty, it&s not that hard to stop smoking. 0ll you need is right self/discipline and

     proper guidance from parents, professionals like doctors, and our 5ather 0lmighty. 0lso, always

     !ear in mind that our !ody is the temple of od and whate$er we do to it is what we also do to

    Him. Cigarette smoking which ruins our !ody also ruins our relationship with od. #f you

    continue your $ice of smoking and it will worsen, you are already destroying your !ody and life

     !ig time. hat is why since you are still young and changing for the !etter is still a !ig

     possi!ility, stop cigarette smoking right now.
