“Learning never exhausts the mind.” Leonardo da Vinci
At SFX College we find that learning is a renewable energy. Passing it on successfully can,
sometimes, be the tiring element! It is because of the nourishing quality of learning that we
want to share learning as broadly as possible. To this end we have an Early Years’ Nursery
on site and we also have our Adult Community Education (ACE) programme. In the morning
we drag our reluctant 16-18 year olds from their beds to lessons; in the evening, just as our
young adults are beginning to wake up properly, we send them home and open our doors to
adults, tired from work and the exertions of the day. We may need to re-think the timetabling
strategy!
The host of programmes which we offer to our adult community is wide-ranging, engaging
and recreational, in its broadest sense. From Tap Dancing to Japanese, to Floristry – take a
look at the online prospectus to see the array of possibilities. Not only will you enhance your
knowledge and skills, you will almost certainly form some great new friendships. It is an
opportunity to try something new, or revisit a skill which you never quite consolidated.
Most of the programme happens during the evening period but there is a smaller group of
courses which run during the day. In a demanding and fast paced urban environment the
opportunity to stop, think and reflect – or to dance off some pent-up energy – is time well-
invested.
We conduct a quality assessment on the courses we offer each year and we will ask for your
feedback and commit to acting upon it. We are proud to declare that our adult programmes
routinely receive commendations for the quality and the skill of our programme teachers,
both from external evaluations and, most crucially, from our adult students. Why not indulge
yourself with a course which we guarantee you will neither forget nor regret? It could well be
the tonic you were looking for.

You may enrol for any course as soon as you receive this prospectus and pay by cheque, cash, credit or debit card. Non-accredited Language Class Information –
French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish
Please note that the following classes are extremely popular and that places are allocated on a
first-come, first-served basis. If recruitment is excessively high we will aim to open new classes
to accommodate student demand. Depending on tutor availability, additional classes may not
necessarily be held on the same evening as outlined in the prospectus. As additional classes
are added to the programme we will update our website community.sfx.ac.uk to highlight any
changes. Please check the website or contact the Administration office on 020 8772 6060 if you
are making a late booking, and we will be happy to confirm where places are still available.
If you wish to continue with your tuition at the end of term we will aim to provide a progressive
class for you. However, classes will only run subject to sufficient student recruitment which
could mean in the spring or summer term your class is amalgamated with another, of the same
level, to make it viable to commence. If we have to amalgamate a class we will be unable to
guarantee you will have the same tutor, and depending on tutor availability we may again have
to alter the evening your class is held on. If you are certain you wish to continue with your class
for the next term then an early enrolment is very helpful and will assist us in making sure your
class is viable to run.
To view further student information, please select “Help & Advice” on the menu bar of our website
community.sfx.ac.uk
If you do make a late booking in the spring or summer terms we would again advise you
to check the website for up-to-date alterations to the programme. ❼

able to absorb newspaper articles in the target language without too much difficulty. Perhaps the
students are a bit rusty, but this course will help re-activate their language skills.

The conversation topics are often inspired by current events in the cultural, social and political sphere.
More general cultural topics, like the country’s traditions, are on the cards too. Some of the chosen
conversation topics, -especially those arising from the latest news- are bound to be controversial and
challenging. This approach will facilitate the students’ involvement in meaningful discussions with the
