enjoyed a shelter building workshop whilst Key Stage

Everyone enjoyed a guided woodland walk leading to

the Great Oak . This ancient tree is believed to be

linked to Robin Hood and our guide shared some in-

teresting stories about the great outlaw. The chal-

lenge of “How many children can you fit inside a

Inside this issue:

Well done to everyone! On behalf of all the staff I would like

to congratulate the children on another successful year in school. The staff have worked extremely hard to support the children’s learning with great success; results in EYFS,

the Year 1 phonics test, key stage 1 and 2 SAT’s have all ex-ceeded national averages with good or outstanding progress across each key stage.

Fun Day 2014

The annual school fun day was held on Sun-day 13th July. It was a fantastic day with lots of fun events and

shows. The day’s fundraising plus later plant sales raised over £1500 for the school.

We were delighted by the Spalding Children’s choir who entertained us with their wonderful voices—many of the young singers are also pupils in the school. The Zumba display team encouraged people to join in, which was fun too, they got everyone in the mood for keep fit. The tradi-tional raffle, tombola and bouncy castle were this year joined by swing-

boats and an ice cream van. What a wonderful day!

A very big thank you to the PTFA committee for all of their hard work and to all the volunteers who helped along the way. A big thank you too

to the kind contributors of prizes and stall stock.

Year 5 get Bikewise

Sports Day

.

Perfect weather for another per-

fect sports day! For me this

year’s sports day was the best I

have ever attended. The team

spirit of the children and sup-

port and encouragement they

gave to each other was a delight

to observe. The parent races

were also a highlight! We can

see where the children get their

competitive streak from!

To ensure that our pupils are adequately pre-

pared for independent use of their bicycles we present an annual Bikeability course which is

open to all year 5 pupils. The course replaces the traditional ‘cycling proficiency’ test which some parents may be more familiar with. The

course is designed to the children the skills nd confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads.

Well done to all of the Year 5’s who took part.

Musical fills the air at the Music Extravaganza

Over the past year Oak class and Willow

class have been supported by Mr Dory (LCC

Music service) to develop their musical tal-

ents in their weekly music lessons. Oak

class have been learning to play a range of

percussion instruments from across the

world and Willow class have been learning

to play brass instruments. Taking centre

stage at our musical extravaganza both

classes wowed the audience. It was a

wonderful evening that showcased the

children’s musical talents. Individual musi-

cal performances were also enjoyed from

the children who have been taking up indi-

vidual piano, violin, clarinet, trumpet and

saxophone lessons. Next year Oak class

will be learning to play woodwind and Wil-

low class will be learning to play ukulele.

A big thank you to everyone who has donated items for our blue

bag campaigns this year and also for those who have deposited

batteries, wires and ink cartridges in our recycling bank. We will con-

tinue to provide these facilities next year.

Cheerleading takes

the show! Our close links with our par-

ish church of St Bartholo-

mew’s were celebrated at

their annual summer fair

when members of our cheer-

leading club entertained the

crowds with their well prac-

tised routine. Many thanks

to all the children and fami-

lies who supported us taking

part in this event.

To support National diabetes week we raised funds through a wear blue day. Leaning links were inter-twined throughout the day in order to increase awareness of this disease. Thank you to

everyone who helped us raise £136.20

Wear Blue for Diabetes

PTFA work tirelessly to raise funds for the school

In addition to the £1500 raised at the Summer Fair, this term the PTFA

have raised £136.46 at the Sports Day Cream Tea event, £50.21 at the

Children’s Bingo and £21.70 from the Father’s Day gift event. Thank you

for supporting these fund raising events.

We’re getting a facelift

Over the summer holidays work will commence on a new extension to the school. The new extension will be built onto the current Head Teachers office to create a new secure reception area and main office. Behind this, adjacent to Rowan class a further extension will become the Head teacher’s office with the current school office being used as a meeting room/small group teaching area. Of course building work does take time to complete and will extend beyond the summer holidays. As we are unable to provide an alternative main entrance to the school the work will have to be completed around the operations of the school. We will do everything that we can to limit any disruption to you and the school. Please be patient with us whilst work is completed.

Year 6’s have enjoyed a wonderful final term commencing with a trip to Lincoln Cathedral to attend the Church School’s Festival. Then there was SATS week- in which they excelled, a residential trip to London and the end of year disco with catwalk event - as well as the ‘mummy toilet roll game (in which Jula & Freya seemed well practiced). The term, and the Yr6’s time in the school, will conclude with the end of year church service. We are absolutely confident that each of our leavers will go on to achieve great things; they have the ability to be or do anything they want. The world is definitely their oyster!

Apple Class enjoy a beach life

Apple Class has

been transformed this term

into an beach oasis. Sprin-

kled with a range of sea life

animals, buckets and spades,

beach towels and swimming

gear the seaside topic has

really to come alive.

Page 6 Term 6 2014

Life is just a walk in the park for Palm Class The local environment formed the basis

for Palm’s final topic of the year. Using fi-

ne art as their guide they have created

landscape images in the style of Monet. In

addition they have considered the design

of the park equipment and designed and

built their own play park (on a much smaller

scale!).

Congratulations

Well done to Blue Team who

triumphed in this year’s team

point challenge!

This has been a really en-

joyable topic which has in-

spired great learning. A

beach party (on the school

field) for Apple class and

their families concluded the

topic.

Oak class have been learning about the local environment too. Honing their re-search skills to find out about a local environmental issue has allowed them to develop their debating and persua-sion skills .

Oak class also represented the school this term in Spalding primary schools athletics tour-nament. They did a tremendous job in both field and track events placing us 4th out of the 9 schools. A great improvement on previous years.

A wonderful sight Due to the kind donation of summer bedding plants from Mr and Mrs Chappell and herbs and plants from Mr and Mrs Nieburg the school

grounds look amazing. (Many thanks to them!)

In addition to the rainbow of colour which now adorns the school grounds our pond area has had a make over too. Mr Midgley’s pond dipping club have done a wonderful job improving the area for the whole school to enjoy.

St Bartholomew’s CE Primary School

Well done to Jula Gdula and Freya Peters

who achieved level 6 in their key Stage 2

maths SATs tests. This is a fantastic

achievement and we are very proud of

them.

72% of year 6’s achieved level 5 in the

reading test—an amazing result which ex-

ceeds all previous results in the school.

time to return comments regarding

their child’s report. These were in-

credibly positive and we are grateful
