Principal’s Report – Mr Kerry Kurtz Zone Athletics Carnival Congratulations to all of our Quirindi Public School athletes who competed at last Friday’s Zone Athletics Carnival. We wish the very best to all those who qualified for the Regional Carnival later this term, as they compete on behalf of our school and Quirindi Zone. Open Day Yesterday our students enjoyed entertainment, as well as a sausage sizzle, free slushies and other free goodies when the Winanga Li held an open day on the back oval. The students also enjoyed meeting some current and past NRL stars, including Timana Tahu, who was a member of the grand final winning Newcastle Knights team several years back. Members of the wider community were invited to attend and representatives from Tamworth Family Referral Services were also in attendance. There is a flier later in the newsletter advertising a free “Come-n-Play” group hosted by Tamworth Family Referral Services. ASCA (Australian Speech and Communication Association) All members of the wider community are invited to attend an ASCA performance (or two) that will showcase our very talented students from Quirindi Public School. These performances are being held at Quirindi High School Library during next week. A note has been sent home with those students that are performing with their times.

The Leader in Me Last week and this week, interviews have been held to choose four new Recycling Leaders at our school. There are two from Years K-2 and two from Years 3-6. Students who applied for these leadership positions were required to submit an application and attend an interview. The successful applicants will have their photo in next weeks newsletter.
PLASTIC BAGS WANTED !!!!!!! Part of the important job of the Recycling Leaders is to collect scrunchable plastic bags from each classroom. As mentioned in the newsletter two weeks ago, we are asking that you send in these plastic bags so that they can be recycled and not end up in our oceans or landfill. You might recall that from next year, Coles, Woolworths and IGA supermarkets will not be using plastic bags as they currently do. Please be part of this great initiative. .
Woolworths Earn and Learn Our P&C is once again participating in the Woolworths Earn and Learn Sticker Program. We will have a box located up at the office for you to put your stickers in. This program goes from 26 July until 19 September 2017. Let’s get collecting to earn rewards to go back towards our school. Special School Photos You should all have received your ordered school photos. It is now possible for you to order any special group photos that your child might be in eg. SRC, Horse Sports. You can view the photos up at the office and collect a form that details how to order your photos online. The cost of the group photos are $17.00 each.

Quirindi High School Taster Day Thanks to Quirindi High School for hosting our Years 5 and 6 for a Taster Day on Tuesday. They were lucky enough to experience the ag farm, science, maths, food technology, Aboriginal dancing and metal work. Some of the lessons were a bit hair-raising but also fun. The children came back very excited about even the not so enticing subjects.
2018 Kindergarten Enrolments!!! We are now accepting enrolments for Kindergarten 2018.
Please contact the office to place your child’s name down and obtain an enrolment package.
Any enquiries please call 67461565.

New South Wales Junior Chess League Our chess players both experienced and learners have been keenly waiting for this opportunity to participate in this one-day chess tournament. They represent our school as they battle other students from the North West and New England Region using their patience, wit and cunning plans! The tournament is on Friday 8 September 2017 at Tamworth Public School and entry is free. Notes with
further information will be handed out next week and can also be collected from the office. Please contact Mrs Lewis if you require any further information. ASCA Invitation Without a doubt, this year’s ASCA performances promise to be the most entertaining and informative ever. If you would like to learn how to rule an empire, be a U-tuber, make pancakes or build a catapult, come along and join our talented students as they present their personal projects in the QHS Library from 9:30am next Monday and Tuesday. Audience members will also be thrilled to hear all about the Real Red Riding Hood and how she got her own back on the Big Bad Wolf, or about the poor old dentist who had to clean Mr Crocodile’s teeth during the poetry sections of the examinations. See you there and thanks for supporting our amazing kids! Jenny Lewis Lost Property Once again our basket is overflowing with clothing that cannot be returned to the rightful owners as the articles are not labelled. If you think your child may have lost clothing this term, please come to the office to look through the lost property. All unclaimed clothing will be sent to a local charity shop at the end of next week. Are your details up to date? Have you moved, changed phone numbers or have different emergency contacts? Please inform the front office with any changes in your living situation so we can contact you if the need arises. Tips for packing their lunch boxes • Pack food that is easy to open, easy to eat and not messy. • Write their name on their lunch box, water bottle and any other containers. • Include a frozen drink bottle to keep food cold. Wrap it in a tea towel in case it leaks. • Use insulated lunch boxes or cooler bags. • Avoid using plastic wrap because children find it hard to pull apart, paper bags are better for the
environment too. • Pack tissues or paper around fruit so it won’t
bruise. • Remind your child to wash their hands before
eating and use the toilet at recess and lunch. • Pack a water bottle for your child each day and
remind them that they can also get water from the taps or bubblers throughout the day.
