Mosman Walk and Author Talk 3B Before lunch on Tuesday, Year 3 went up to the Barry O’Keefe Library to have an author talk with R.A. Spratt. On the way we saw a few things that the teachers had planned for us such as plaques, poles and fountains. When we were in the library R.A. started with a noisy trumpet. She told us her books were called Nanny Piggins and Friday Barnes. My favourite part was when she launched a rocket at Mr Cobcroft… Yeah!! After the talk, we left and went up to the top of Mosman Square and saw 4 flags (Australian, Aboriginal, NSW and Mosman Council) and more memorial plaques. When we arrived back at school it was lunch time. I had an awesome time because R.A. Spratt was very funny. By Jack K 3B In Book Week, Year 3 walked to Mosman Library for an author talk with R.A. Spratt. On the way, we walked past the cenotaph and we saw two fountains and some memorial plaques. R.A. Spratt was very nice and had a good sense of humour. Her books are based on a pig called Nanny Piggins and a girl called Friday Barnes. She read her favourite chapter from each. It really inspired me! At the end, R.A. fired a rocket at the teachers. On the way back we saw 4 flag poles near Mosman Council. I really enjoyed the excursion and I liked the books. By Will S 3B

Today, we walked to the Mosman Library for an author talk and we looked at memorials on the way there and back. The author’s name was R.A. Spratt and she used a lot of expression during her talk. She wrote two series of books which were Nanny Piggins and Friday Barnes. We then walked back to school via the Mosman Council area. I really enjoyed the author talk and my favourite part was when R.A. shot an air rocket at the teachers. Luckily, she missed them! By Mei Yu L 3B Today, Year 3 went to Mosman Library for an author talk with R.A. Spratt. On the way we saw a horse trough and other memorials. R.A. Spratt answered questions and read to us from Nanny Piggins and then Friday Barnes. She took out a puppet of Nanny Piggins. She had us ask the pig questions. Finally, she shot a rocket at the teachers and then we had to leave. We walked up to Mosman Council and saw some flagpoles and a light pole. I think it was an amazing experience. By Claire D 3B In Week 7, all of Year 3 went to Mosman Library for an author talk with R.A. Spratt. She talked mainly about how pretty she was (it’s not true!) On the way we stopped and looked at landmarks like fountains and flagpoles. R.A. introduced herself by blowing a trumpet (it was actually to get us to be quiet). She talked and talked and talked while I daydreamed. I did listen when she was reading her books Nanny Piggins and Friday Barnes. Finally, she shot rockets at the teachers, but they didn’t hit their mark. We left and looked at a few more landmarks before heading back to school.

I enjoyed going to the library and I wish there was a person called Mr Two who has the opportunity to do everything twice because if there was, I would want to be him on that day! By Milo B 3B

Performing Arts Our Performing Arts GALA night will be held in the school hall next week on Thursday September 10. This will be a wonderful opportunity for the school community to see the wonderful performance groups that have been working so hard throughout the year. There is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome so please join us at 6:30pm in the school hall. The groups involved include:

year 3 Primary Proms choir;

year 4 Arts Alive choir;

senior Festival of Choral Music choir;

Arts Alive dance group;

Arts Alive drama ensemble;

junior band;

combined performance band;

the new senior jazz band and the combined string ensemble.

All performing students should wear their performance uniforms or costumes and be at school at 6:00pm so that they can meet their teachers and be ready to perform. The concert will begin at 6:30pm and finish at 8:00pm. A HUGE congratulations to the year 4 Arts Alive choir for their wonderful performance at the Sydney Opera House on Monday. The evening was absolutely amazing and our choir students should be very proud. Congratulations also to Natalia H who performed as part of the Combined Schools Band which was the opening performance of the evening. Our combined performance band is also very busy at the moment with performances at Chatswood High School and the Chatswood concourse as well as the GALA evening. They will be looking forward to a break over the holidays before returning to rehearsals for term 4. Ballykins pre-school are getting excited as our string ensemble students will be doing a special concert next week for them as well. Good luck to all our AMEB examinations candidates. This is a very anxious time for them and it is wonderful to see many students sitting this prestigious music exam. It has been a very busy term for performing arts and term 4 looks exciting with the school musicale well under way! Caroline Cady - Music Specialist Teacher

Mosman Boys Netball Team Earlier this year at the beginning of Term 2 the PSSA trials opened. The options were soccer, netball and in-school sport. Most of the boys selected soccer or in-school sport except for a group of boys including me. We all signed the note and within a week we were trialling for the team. The teachers were very surprised as we were the first ever boys to trial and make a team. A lot of the boys on the team were basketball players so they had some experience although none of us have ever played netball so it was a fun chance for us to play something different. We had a fantastic time playing and learning the game and it turned out we were quite good. In fact, we won all of our games and we were declared the winners of the competition!! We recently challenged the best girls netball team to a game but we unfortunately lost by 1 point. Us boys were ok with losing one game. I hope there are more boy’s teams in the future. Louie P (Snr Lightning)

Special congratulations to our Regional qualifiers. The Regional Carnival will be held at Sydney Athletics Centre Homebush on Monday September 7.

Amazing results! Well done Mosman.

Dear MPS Community,

As you may be aware, the Mini-Mos Community Fun Run and Fair (the Mini-Mos) has partnered with Autism Spectrum and The Unicorn Foundation for the past three years as our designated charitable organisations. These partnerships were originally established with the understanding that at the end of 3 years, we would re‐ evaluate the relationship.

In the capacity as Mini-Mos’ designated charities, Autism Spectrum and The Unicorn Foundation have worked together with the Mini-Mos Committee to raise awareness to the cause that these charities serve. In addition, Autism Spectrum and The Unicorn Foundation have been the financial benefactors of a portion of the funds raised through the Mini-Mos.

In return, the Mini-Mos has benefitted from the charities’ involvement with an increased and broader reach for the event

itself, let alone the positive impact the relationships have had on our children at Mosman Public School.

As we’ve just completed our third year with Autism Spectrum and The Unicorn Foundation, it is now time to re‐ evaluate our relationship and conduct a new review of potential partner registered charitable organisations. It is with this in mind that we wish to open nominations for charitable organisations to be considered for interview to establish a working partnership with the Mini-Mos committee.

We have outlined below the process through which organisations will be considered for selection. The criteria we will use in assessing successful applicants include:

• Be a registered charitable organisation or foundation;

• Centre on children;

• Address improving the health & welfare of children in general;

• Provide a learning opportunity/experience for MPS children;

• Have an established/known brand and/or identity; and,

• Have the ability to assist the Mini-Mos committee to promote the event;

Nominations will be accepted through to noon on Friday, September 18. There will be absolutely no additional nominations accepted

after this time. We trust you can appreciate that the process of selection must adhere to a strict timeline in order to be

completed before preparations for the 2016 Mini-Mos Community Fun Run and Fair commence in November this year.

Page 9: Term 3 Week 2 Whaler No 11 2003 · 8/9/15 9/9/15 6.30pm – P&C meeting - staffroom 10/9/15 ... Today, we walked to the Mosman Library for an author talk and we looked at memorials

The selection committee will resolve to review all nominations and select a maximum of six organisations to make a presentation to the committee. From this presentation, the committee will select one or two partner organisations to join the Mini-Mos event for a period of no less than 3 years.

While we appreciate that everyone has an organisation they may be passionate about, we can only select a maximum of two. We have chosen a selection process we believe is the most objective and hope that you can appreciate the difficulty involved in selecting a partner organisation/s when all are worthy in their own right.

Please do not hesitate to contact Heather Kent ([email protected] ), should you have any further questions regarding charity nominations. Thank you for helping us determine our 2016 Mini-Mos partner charity/ies. For an on behalf of MPS P&C Executive, MPS Funding Review and Mini-Mos Committee
