Respect, Responsibility, Resilience. Dear Parents/Carers Education Week Next week, the Department of Education NSW highlight the many opportunities that our students have in our schools. The theme for this year is Every Student Every Voice – a celebration of how our schools gives students the skills they need in order to have and express a voice during their own educational journey and ultimately, as engaged global citizens. As our partners in learning, our school community has opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of how student voice is developed in their learning and wellbeing during education week. During our parent workshop on Open Day (Tuesday 6 August), parents/carers can learn more about how feedback is used to provide opportunities for students to articulate thoughts about their own and others’ learning. This can then be seen in action in an authentic way during open classrooms. Respectful relationships between students, teachers and parents enable honest feedback to be given and received to enhance learning. During our open day concert (Tuesday 6 August) and our performing arts showcase at Castle Towers (Thursday 8 August), we will highlight the talents of many of our students. At the same time, our Game Changer team will be participating in this year’s challenge at Parramatta to design a solution to a complex real-world problem. Oakhill Drive are included in the launch of Education Week through the participation of one of the members of our Game Changer team, Caleb C. This will be live- streamed on Monday, 5 August from 10:00am on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4sXDASdyH0&feature=youtu.be . Road Safety As you would be aware, the roads around schools are very busy and congested during peak drop off and pick up times. Often, we can be in a hurry to leave and some may be tempted to take short cuts and not show expected courtesy to other road users. The safety of our students, families and staff is our prime concern. Both your own children and others follow behaviours they observe by adults; please follow road rules and the direction of the School Crossing Supervisors to ensure safety. While we remind students of road safety throughout the year, we urge you to also please take the time to discuss safe road and footpath rules with your children and to follow both the rules and the direction of our School Term 3 Week 2 30 July 2019 Dates for your Diary Week 2 Wednesday 31 July Gymnastics Yrs 3 4 & 5 (excluding 5/6M) OC Placement Test Knockout Netball Thursday 1 August 3-6 Assembly – Hall 2:00pm K-2 Athletics Carnival String Ensemble at Opera House Friday 2 August Scripture & Ethics Winter PSSA, Home Sport and Tennis Week 3 Monday 5 August Play On K-2 Arts Alive Choir Rehearsal and Performance at Sydney Town Hall Tuesday 6 August OPEN DAY Wednesday 7 August Gymnastics Yrs 3 4 & 5 (excluding 5/6M) Thursday 8 August K-2 Assembly – Hall 2:00pm Education Week Showcase at Castle Towers – selected groups only Friday 9 August Scripture & Ethics Winter PSSA, Home Sport and Tennis Week 4 Monday 12 August Play On K-2 Zone Athletics Discus Yr 4 Jamie Ranger Excursion Tuesday 13 August EAL Café 9:00am – 10:30am Lib Lab Stage 3 NSW Art Gallery Excursion Wednesday 14 August Gymnastics Yrs 3 4 & 5 (excluding 5/6M) Zone Athletics Field, 1500m Finals & 800m Heats Thursday 15 August 3-6 Assembly – Hall 2:00pm Basketball Knockout Friday 16 August Scripture & Ethics Winter PSSA, Home Sport and Tennis

OAKHILL DRIVE PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

Respect, Responsibility, Resilience.

Crossing Supervisors when crossing the roads before and after school. Kindness at Oakhill Drive Last Friday at the Oakhill Drive shops, a community member had a fall and hurt herself. Year 6 students - Angus, Jordan, Alex N, Rion and Amelia C went to her aid and sought help for her. They showed kindness and we feel very proud that they put their compassion into action. These dispositions are some of the most important learning that takes place in our Oakhill Drive community. Thank you. Julie Torney Relieving Principal Scripture Update Term 3 Students are in their newly nominated scripture classes as of last week. We are still waiting for an Ethic’s teacher. Kathryn Marsaus and Hollie Brito Relieving Deputy Principals Opportunity Class Applications If your child applied for the Opportunity Class Placement for 2020, they should have received a test authority email outlining test details for tomorrow. If you have not received this email please contact the High Performing Students Team on 1300 880 367 or Kelly Cartwright. Kelly Cartwright Assistant Principal Stage 3 Oakibald Competition During Semester 1, Stage 3 students were learning about portraiture and as a result each student has produced a portrait on canvas. Due to their dedication and efforts, Stage 3 have decided to run their very own Archibald Competition called the Oakibald! The Oakibald will be on display for parents, grandparents & friends on Open Day (Tuesday 6 August). Each Stage 3 class has decided on their top 5 portraits which will be displayed on art boards in front of the hedges at the entrance of the school. During Open Day, we invite everyone to place ONE VOTE ONLY for their favourite portrait. Voting will be completed electronically and instructions will be displayed near the art boards. Each portrait will have a short description and reference number attached to it for voting purposes. The remaining portraits from each of the classes will be on display in the hall. In total there will be five categories for our Oakibald competition. People’s Choice Award will be voted for on Open Day. The other categories are Staff Choice, Children’s Choice, Class Teacher’s choice and the Packers Prize. The voting of these remaining categories will take place from Wednesday – Friday in Week 3, where each child and teacher will have the opportunity to have their say. Winners will be announced on Monday 12 August (Week 4) at the Monday morning assembly.
