Term 3 Week 10
Dear Families,
As the holidays approach I have been reflecting on how
busy this term has been including the many and varied
extra curricula activities and outstanding engaging
learning programs offered in classrooms.
I would like to thank all our staff for their efforts
throughout this term; many parents for their input and
student’s for their efforts.
I imagine the school holidays will bring an
opportunity for our student’s to overcome the winter
illnesses that have become so prevalent in the past few
weeks.
We are now starting to plan for the 2018 school year.
Accurate student numbers are essential. Could you
please assist us by letting the school know if you intend
on moving to a new school or there are new
neighbours in the street who have school aged children.
I want to wish all of our families a safe and happy school
holidays and I look forward to seeing all our smiling
Blairmount families back on Monday 9th October 2018.
Regards
Greg Turnbull

Writing in 1R
Over the last 2 terms students in 1R have focussed on
writing narrative stories. Three of our students have
published their stories on iTunes. This is a huge
achievement and they are excited to be able to share
their work with audiences all over the world.
You can access their work through the links below:

I am extremely proud of these students work and am excited about the possibilities as all of the students in 1R continue to grow in writing.
One story has also been added to the student authored
section of iTunes U.

Student and Teacher Conference in Canberra
On the 13th of September, Lailah Hyett and Stephanie
Butt went to Canberra for a Social Ventures Australia
(SVA) Thought Leadership Gathering. This was a
conference where teachers and students work together
focusing on S.T.E.M education. The conference was
held at Canberra University, where we worked with
schools (primary and high schools) from across the
country. We participated in many workshops, two of
them included: StrongerSmarter and CSIRO, both were
very intriguing workshops. We also got to experience
going to Questacon where we got to participate in maker
spaces. We created our own prototypes for a S.T.E.M
challenge where we had to create our own shake table
and make a tower that had 100g in the middle of it but
also make it tumble at 8 on the Richter scale.
We have taken back multiple ideas to share with
Blairmount and the staff but most importantly we would
like to see S.T.E.M education increase at Blairmount
Public School and we will share our ideas with teachers.
We were accompanied by Mrs Gibbs and Miss Pollock,
we thank them for giving us the opportunity that we had.
Thank you!!!
Lailah and Stephanie

Eco group enjoying spring
This term the Eco group has prepared our school’s
veggie garden beds and planted some seedlings for our
spring/summer crop. We have planted tomatoes,
zucchinis, lettuces, snow peas, strawberries and baby
spinach. After planting, we mulched the beds to help the
water not evaporate. We are watering the plants,
keeping the weeds away and hope for a good crop next
term.
Looking forward to working with the Eco group next term
and harvesting our crop.

Busy Buzzy Learners Term 3
As the term comes to an end we get to celebrate the
amazing achievements each of our Busy, Buzzy
Learner students have made during their time in the
program. It has been a wonderful opportunity to get to
know the amazing students that will be starting
Blairmount in 2018. Friendships have been made,
school readiness skills have been practiced and each
student is leaving the program ready to start
Kindergarten. We wish each student the very best and
cannot wait to see them at the start of 2018.
