Well, this has been the busiest time for Maroochy BeachGymnastics that I have ever seen. The fire we experienced hasseen us rely on volunteers more than ever. A special thanks mustgo to Brent Hall, our extension project coordinator for all his workpre-fire, and now with the additional work required in rebuild, Brentis again a very busy man. Thanks Brent, MBG is very fortunate tohave you.
Also, a large thankyou goes out the MBG committee who weremeeting daily initially post-fire. I will also give a special thanks toVice President Jason Powell for his continued work with ourinsurance company as we rebuild. Jason’s professional time andadvice, as with all committee members, has been most valuable toMaroochy Beach over this very difficult period for our club.
I am also grateful to the wider gymnastics community who havebeen most supportive with free Hall Hire from Sunshine CoastGymnastics Academy, Delta Gymnastics and the HPC and manyother club’s with donations and support. It is most encouraging tosee and feel the genuine care shown by our fellow clubs not only inQueensland but also NSW from Tamworth and also as far asCanberra City Gymnasts in ACT. Even though it has been a verydifficult time, Maroochy Beach will be bigger and better as we riseup through this difficult time.
To recognise the hard work of recent times, and to Thank You allfor staying with Maroochy Beach Gymnastics, we are holding abrief social event to meet, and discuss the future we have ahead ofus. Please join me on Saturday between 4:00 and 5:30pm for thisevent.RSVP required to [email protected]

Term 3-2017 and welcome back to gymnasts resuming from last term. There are many excited
little athletes thrilled to resume gymnastics at our new venue at Kunda Park. We thank all of
our members for your support of Maroochy Beach Gymnastics Club over the past Term 3
classes will run through to Saturday 16th September.
Please ensure your child is prompt to arrive for class. It is important for children to participate
in the class warm-up as a preventive to injury. To ensure the safety of all members, parents
are requested to escort children to and from the car park in to the gym facility. Students are
requested to bring a water bottle to every lesson and have long hair neatly tied back. As a
safety precaution, we request that spectators refrain from talking to students or coaching
staff during class.

CAR PARKING @ KERRYL STREET:
WELCOME BBQ: Saturday 19th August
Welcome to Term 3 to our returning and new Astronauts, Discoverers,
Adventurers and Explorers Parents and carers.
We have a full term ahead and also settling into our new facilities –We are
starting the term with our ‘Circus’ Theme where parents will be invited on the
floor (for Astronauts) as the gymnasts do need to settle into the new
environment – 4 x two week themes with our big and fun thinking theme ‘Left
and Right with Balance’ and finishing with our last theme “Teddy Bears
Picnic”.
We have been so lucky to secure the equipment we have now and more is
still to arrive which will then make our gymnastics centre extremely well
equipped. We do have extra parking facilities – so if you cannot find a park
there is an empty block of land one building before ours where you are
allowed to park.
At Teddy Bears Picnic I will be giving out packets of Tiny Teddy biscuits (kindly
donated by our local Wises Road IGA) so if your child has a special diet
please bring something for them so they don’t miss out.
I do hope the term ahead is exciting and full of fun, jumping, climbing,
stretching, rolling, swinging and balancing. Thank you so much for your
continued support through our stressful and sad time and now looking
forward to the future in our Temporary facilities and then our wonderful new
and amazing home back on Wises Road.

A DAY AT THE
MAROOCHY BEACH CIRCUS
What an incredible year thus far for our Mens and Womens competitive
gymnasts. The year commenced with our Senior Level 7 – 10 athletes
competing at the South-East Queensland Regional Championships in March;
followed closely by the Queensland State Titles In April. Six of our Maroochy
Beach athletes gained selection to represent Queensland at the 2017
National Gymnastics Championships and WAG Border Challenge.
Despite an interrupted training preparation with the destruction of the Wises
Road gymnastics hall, our Senior and Junior gymnasts determinedly soldiered
on to achieve outstanding success at the State Club Championships, held at
Caloundra in June.
Our Level 3 – 6 athletes are now putting the final touches to their apparatus
routines in preparation for the MAG and WAG Sunshine Coast Junior
Regionals to be held during the month of August. Our WAG Level 4-6 and
MAG Level 3-6 athletes are looking forward to a great weekend of
competition with many already having gained the qualifying score to
compete at the Junior State Gymnastics Championships in September.
Please find below a brief outline of the 2017 competition results to date:
Maroochy Beach Level 7 - 10 athletes attained great success at the 2017
Queensland Senior States held at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Brisbane in
April. State Championships saw over 270 gymnasts competing in 2 rounds of
competition in the Men's and Women's Under and Open divisions. Of our
small team of ten athletes, two gymnasts attained 1st All Around placing in
their age division and were crowned Queensland State Champion; five
athletes attained 1st placing in Queensland on individual apparatus; and 6
gymnasts were selected for Queensland representation. The Club brought
home a total of 18 individual apparatus podium placings. Hannah Dwan – WAG Level 7 Under 13 years: 1st Floor; 5th Beam; 1st All Around
Isabella Stevens - 2nd Vault; 4th Uneven Bar; 4th All Around
Rhiani Lizemore - 6th Floor
Abbey Barnett – WAG Level 8 Under 15 years: 3rd Floor
Karleigh Fraser – WAG Level 10: 1st Vault; 1st Beam; 1st Floor; 3rd Bar; 1st All Around
Harrison Williams – MAG Level 8 Under 14 years: 2nd Rings; 2nd H-Bar; 3rd Vault; 3rd
P-Bar; 3rd All Around
Kobi Thompson – MAG Level 8 Open: 1st P-Bars; 2nd Floor; 2nd Pommel; 3rd Rings
Hannah Dwan; Karleigh Fraser; Harrison Williams and Kobi Thompson also gained
selection to compete at National Championships, whilst Rhiani Lizemore and Isabella
Stevens were selected to compete at 2017 Border Challenge.
Page 7
Early in April, our four Queensland representatives travelled to the Hisense
Arena in Melbourne to contest the 2017 National Championships –
Hannah Dwan – WAG Level 7; Karleigh Fraser – WAG Level 10;
Harrison Williams – MAG Level 8 Under 14 years; & Kobi Thompson – MAG
Level 8 Open. Each gymnast competed in two rounds of competition against
the top eight gymnasts from Queensland, NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, Western
Australia, South Australia and the ACT. Selection to compete at National
Championships is the pinnacle of dreams for all gymnasts, with podium
success being the optimal icing on the cake. Our four Maroochy Beach and
Queensland representatives did themselves, their coaches and our Club very
proud.
Congratulations to Hannah who placed 7th on floor apparatus at her
inaugural National Championships. Karleigh Fraser also performed
exceptionally well to be crowned the Australian Level 10 U/16 years Vault
Champion with her gold medal performance. Karleigh also attained 3rd
placing on Uneven Bars and 3rd on Beam; in addition to the gold medal 1st
placing in the team event.
In the Mens event, Kobi Thompson’s outstanding performance saw him taking
the National title for 1st placing in Australia on Parellel Bars. Kobi’s clean
routines contributed to Queensland MAG Level 8 Open taking the silver
medal placing in the team event. Harrison Williams also displayed great
performances against a strong field in the Under 14 years Level 8 division to
place 3rd on Rings and silver medal placing in the team event.

Karleigh selected for New Zealand tour
Following her stellar performance at National Championships, Karleigh has now
been selected as one of only four team members to represent Australia in the Level
10 division at the New Zealand Championships, to be held early October.
Karleigh is placing every last ounce of energy and determination in to each and
every training session to ensure she is prepared to compete at her very best.
Unfortunately without a full sprung competition available at our Kerryl Street venue,
Karleigh and her WAG Senior team mates are required to travel to Brisbane every
weekend to hone their skills at the High Performance Centre. Karleigh is chuffed yet
honoured to be representing Australia, but is struggling to meet the expenses of
travel, accommodation and Australian uniforms. A Go Fund Me page has been
established to help Karleigh fund the Open tour and relaise her dream of
representing Australia, and Maroochy Beach Gymnastics, at the New Zealand tour.
If you would like to contribute to Karleigh’s Go Fund Me, please CLICK HERE.
All donations – no matter how large or how small – are gratefully appreciated.

Maroochy Beach Gymnastics congratulate our WAG Level 7 gymnasts -
Rhiani Lizemore and Isabella Stevens - on their performances at the 2017
WAG Border Challenge The girls gained selection for the Queensland team
based on their All Around placings at Senior State Championships, where
both girls finished in the top 20.
Rhiani and Isabella competed in the two day Border Challenge event at the
Caloundra Indoor Sports Stadium on 23rd and 24th June vying against the
top gymnasts from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia
and the ACT.
Day 1 of competition was the team event. Rhiani performed elegantly on
Balance Beam, scoring an outstanding 12.5, to push her Queensland team to
overall 3rd placing. Isabella's artistic and graceful Floor routine scored an
incredible 12.7.
Day 2 was the individual competition. Both Rhiani and Isabella competed
with strength and determination throughout the 2 day event, and did their
coaches - Vlad and Irina Joura - and their Club proud. Congratulations
to Isabella Stevens who attained individual 3rd place on Floor apparatus.

State Club Championships
Even a devastating fire destroying their gymnastics training hall and
equipment, couldn't stop our Maroochy Beach gymnasts from attaining
outstanding success at the 2017 State Club Championships. The Queensland
Club Championships, held at the Caloundra Indoor Stadium from 24th - 27th
June, attracted over 1100 athletes in the MAG Level 3-10 and WAG Level 4-
10 divisions. Maroochy Beach nominated a total of 45 athletes competing in
the MAG C & D divisions and WAG Levels 4-10.
Maroochy Beach enjoyed resounding success to bring home 3 silver and 3rd
bronze apparatus medals; and 13 ribbons for 4th – 10th apparatus placings.
In the All Around podium placings, our WAG Level 7 team placed 3rd ;
MAG Division D placed 5th All Around; WAG Level 4 placing 6th ;
MAG Division D 7th All Around; and WAG Level 6 placing 10th All Around.

OVO in your Mojo Congratulations to our MAG athlete - Rory Thompson
on winning Week 1 of the "Ovo in Your Mojo" competition.
The mobile phone company ran a competition with
athletes required to promote their brand "OVO".
Rory's entry was extremely creative and demonstrated
great strength and gymnastics skill. Rory won $200.00
from Ovo which he has very generously donated to
Maroochy Beach’s Rebuild Our Future campaign.
Nine year old Rory trains 3 hours per week and has recently
progressed to our MAG Development squad.
Term 2 Major Raffle
A very big thank you to all the families and businesses who supported our Term 2
Major Raffle, whether be through your donation of a prize or purchasing or selling

Thank you to Gwen Farrelly who was the driving force behind the Term 2 Major

and congratulations to all of our prize winners.
