school.

Semester 1 Reports
Semester 1 reports on progress and achievements
this year are currently being finalised and will be
sent home on Friday 18th June. (My apologies for
error with date last week.)
Reports are a ‘point in time’ judgement on how your
child is performing according to state wide standards
for their stage of schooling.
Parents can request appointment to discuss child’s
progress with their teachers when reports sent home
and time will be given next term to update their PLP
goals set in Term 1 based on Semester 1
achievements.
P and C Activities
Our P&C are hosting a fundraising BBQ at Bunnings
this Saturday. If you can help cook or serve at the
BBQ please contact P&C organisers - Jo Tracey,
Nancy Smith or Julie Barwick.
You would have also received raffle tickets for the
P&C firewood raffle.
Winners will be drawn on 25th June.
Transition
Our Transition class is steadily growing as the term
progresses and the class are already showing great
signs of being completely prepared for school next
year. The children have quickly adapted to school
routines and are great role models to the new
students when they have joined class.
If you know of any family interested or a child eligible
to attend, please ask them to contact the school so
we know who to expect next term and so they do not
miss out on a place in the class!
Building Improvements
Our classrooms are super warm and comfortable in
any weather with the brilliant air-conditioning that
was installed during the last two years. Our outdoor

classroom and gardens have also had some recent
improvements. Our edible garden has new frost
covers to keep our winter vegetables growing and
the outdoor classroom has been fitted with some
new activities stations and artificial grass installed.
Hopefully our next stage of improvements will
commence soon with the outdoor kitchen, new
signage at front of school and the big project by end
of year – a shade cover over our basketball courts!
Star Awards
“You’re a Star Award” certificates are presented at
our Monday morning assembly to students who have
been using the You Can Do It keys to success and
demonstrating persistence, resilience, organisation,
getting along and confidence.
Congratulations to our recipients this morning:
Austin, Sophie, Blake, Chloe, Brodie, Torrah,
Isabelle, Kayalanna, Bailey, Thomas and Phillip.
These ‘keys’ are instant rewards given daily to
encourage use of the ‘5 keys to success’-
persistence, resilience, organisation, getting along
and confidence.

3/4 News
3/4 worked together to create this
collaborative artwork following our learning
about Reconciliation week and National Sorry
Day. This artwork was designed by Zachary
Bennett-Brook. Zachary is a contemporary
artist and Indigenous man of Torres Strait
Islander ancestry, born and raised on
Dharawal Country.
1/2 News We love being creative! Students in 1/2 have
opportunities to explore and express their creative
side at Newling PS. Every week Miss Nicole
teaches the students music through games and
hands on experiences. Students also enjoy drama
opportunities in class English lessons.
5/6 News On Tuesday and Wednesday last week students from
Yrs 4-6 participated in Basketball Gala Days in
Tamworth. There were some very strong teams rep-
resent on the day from Tenterfield, Inverell, Barraba,
Scone, Armidale and Tamworth.
Our Newling students, once again, proved their
hearts are mighty and played 2-3 games each, never
once losing their enthusiasm. Their sportsmanship
and drive is to be commended.
They were a wonderful group of students to take
away and represent our school; well done!
Kindergarten News The Kindergarten students have been learning about
3-dimensional objects in Mathematics. They made
3-dimensional shapes out of playdough and paddle pop
sticks to demonstrate their understanding.
With the icy weather last week, we had lots of students
dressed sensibly in jumpers, jackets, beanies and gloves.
Please make sure all items of clothing are labelled with
your child’s name as this makes returning items to the
owners so much easier.
We are grateful to a
generous community
member who knitted
beanies for some of
our students.
TRANSITION CLASS NEWS
We were lucky to welcome a new student, Lucas, to our class last week! We are
enjoying our CIRCUS theme at the moment and learning to make patterns and our
own name in playdough.
SRC News Handball
Well done to all those students who entered our handball competition this term. Many of our students showed persistence when practicing and growth in their hand eye coordination. We as a staff have been very impressed with their improvements. Well done everyone!
NAIDOC Week Competition
The SRC are running a colouring in competition for students in K-2 and a poster design competition in 3-6 for NAIDOC week. 3-6 poster designs must in-clude the theme “Heal Country” and are due Tuesday 22nd June, Week 10. To submit your entry please give your creation to Miss Winsor with your name clearly marked. Good luck!
Softball Superstar Montana!
On Monday Montana represented Newling Public School at the North West team trials.
She demonstrated outstanding skill during catching and batting drills and was a wonderful team player when fielding in games.
Montana has been selected as a reserve for the team and we cannot wait to see what she does next. Well done!
