Term 2, Week 6 – Wednesday 7 June 2017
Dear parents, caregivers and whanau
Two things this week - REAL Challenges and uniforms.
REAL Challenges/ Home learning:
It is great to see so many of the children in Year 4-6 taking up the REAL Challenges for 2017. I
have created a set of special final "Mr O'Reilly’s Challenges" to encourage them to be REAL
Heroes and lead their learning through the REAL Challenges. If your child has signed up please
remember to support them. Historical data shows children who take up and complete the
challenges become more self-regulated as learners and achieve well at Intermediate and High
School. You can find information on our school website about the challenges.
Uniform:
As you know our motto is REAL Heroes making REAL CHOICES; that is Respectful, Encouraging,
Achieving, Lifelong learners. One aspect of Respect and Achieving is to follow the expectations at
school especially in relation to the school uniform. At the moment about 90% of children wear the
correct uniform including totally black shoes, totally black or white socks, studs if earrings are worn
and no other adornments. This week we will be respectfully following up with the 10% who for
some reason do not feel they should wear the uniform (at times it is hard to determine if this is
child initiated or parent initiated) and for most despite repeated reminders still come in their own
selection of clothing or adornments.
If your child comes to school with adornments they will be asked to remove them, hand them to
the teacher until the end of the day and then take them home (a note will also come home with
them).
If they have the incorrect uniform (shoes, socks, pants etc) a note will be sent home.
Please help us to help your child to be respectful of guidelines (and later in life work expectations)
about dress standards. This will help them for the present and in the future at intermediate and
high school.
Thanks to the vast majority of you who support your child to make REAL CHOICES.

ENVIRO NEWS
SOFT PLASTICS RECYCLING
The Love NZ Soft Plastics Programme is about informing New Zealanders on how to keep plastic bags and packaging out of landfill.
The enviro team want to support this programme. Bring your supermarket bags, bread bags, frozen food bags, toilet paper packaging, confectionery and biscuit wrap, chip bags, pasta and rice bags, courier envelopes, shopping bags, - basically anything made of plastic which can be scrunched into a ball, to school. Just make sure they are empty, dry and leave them in the ‘Soft Plastics’ bin by Woody’s shed. We will take these to our local supermarket to be recycled.
Thank you, Aoife, Esther & Bradley

REAL CHALLENGES…..
REAL Challenges thank you! Hello! Emily, Jessie, Tatum and Lauren here.
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who
participated in the Fred Hollows Foundation Cookie Fundraiser
by buying a cookie. We spent all weekend baking cookies so we
could raise money for this awesome charity! In total we raised
exactly $200! This means we all helped 8 people see again!
Thanks Again Emily, Jessie, Tatum and Lauren 😊
THANK YOU FROM HAYLEY, HAYLEY, ELLA & LAURA
LUNCHTIME CLUBS We finally got to make our pizzas!! 12 children participated in the My Kitchen Rules Pizza Challenge. The pizzas looked oh so professionally made and Travis Studio smelt a little like an Italian Pizza Shop afterwards! Yuuuuum!!
COMMUNITY NOTICES
Dear Parents/Caregivers, To you all we extend a warm invitation to our Open Night at Chisnallwood Intermediate School on Wednesday July 5 from 6-8pm. With more than 500 students, at only two year levels, a special dynamic is created. This dynamic can only exist at a stand-alone Intermediate. It drives the curricular and extracurricular experience for all students and creates opportunity for the highest levels of excellence and creativity. I have been alerted to the fact that rumours have been circulating around Chisnallwood's future. To clarify, we have a 2020 review date with the MoE which we strongly believe will evidence that we are more than suitable for continuance as a fully functioning intermediate due to our long and proud history of sterling education service. It is dependent on local families continuing to support us with their patronage and that continues to be the case. Our 50th Jubilee is on October 27/28 and we expect to be celebrating our 100th anniversary in 2067. Please join us for our open evening and experience our dynamic for yourself. Prospectus’ available now. Kind regards, Justin Fields Principal
