More fantastic work The students at CBPS are clever. I love having students come over to the office and share their work. There are always lots of students doing really good work and sharing the progress as well as their achievement of goals. It was great to have some Kindergarten students come over yesterday. They were showing me their ‘graphemes’.

Swim Scheme Swim Scheme is a great initiative for students and concluded for the students involved on Friday. The students absolutely gained confidence and skill in their swimming skills. The staff reported how much they all improved. There is some disruption during this period for classes but this has now ended and should allow some more settled routine once again. Students will receive their certificates in class, due to the cancellation of assemblies. Staffing We continue to have consistency with our staffing for 2020, which is great. From time to time, staff take leave from work like any other vocation. At present, we had Karen Donnelly on some extended leave overseas. She has returned to Australia but will now be subject to the Australian Government’s self isolation requirements. Mrs Bradney has also been overseas and will return on Thursday. She will now be subject to the same rules. While they will be missed, they will not return to CBPS until the expiry of their isolation period. Aleisha will continue in the canteen in Karen’s absence. Mrs Pex is fulfilling the Deputy role while Mrs Bradney is away. Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) This unforeseen and very difficult time means we will all have to do things differently. Unfortunately, for us, some of these changes mean not being able to function to the same physical extent as the friendly and welcoming community that we are accustomed to being. Drop off and Pick up To increase safety, we wish to limit the number of people entering the school. Please only accompany your children into the school if it is necessary to do so. Use Kiss and Drop, walk student to the COLA and then wave them goodbye. For pick up, wait under the COLA or outside the gates to limit the number of visitors we have in the school. Entering Classrooms We ask that parents do not enter classrooms. Please send all enquiries through the front office, via Skoolbag or phone the school. Additional school changes - Scripture lessons will now cease until further notice. - We are ceasing the help of parent volunteers, until further notice. Bubblers Students have been informed that they should use their own drink bottle. These can be filled in classrooms with the tap, which has handwashing available. Students without a drink bottle will be required to wash their hands after using the bubblers.

Playtime Students are still able to play. We have increased the space for students to eat their lunch within the courtyard with their class. Advice received confirms that outdoor spaces represent reduced risk, especially where there are large numbers of people. We continue to utilise our oval, back playground and outdoor spaces during playtime. Students are encouraged to maintain some social isolation and to avoid touching hands (handshakes) but completely limiting close interaction for children is difficult. We will continue to review practices. Online resources for parents and students The NSW Department of Education has provided some helpful tips for parents whose children will be learning at home. https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/learning-from-home/advice-to-parents-and-carers https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/learning-from-home The school remains committed to the wellbeing of our students and staff and we are following the advice of the Department of Education which is based on the latest Health Department advice. We will respond quickly to any change in this advice as a result of the dynamic nature of this event. Student Sickness

It has always been the case that students and staff who are sick should remain at home. The Department of Education have again re-iterated this message and we want to reinforce it to our families. If your child has a cough, sore throat, respiratory illness, fever or heavy cold or flu-like symptoms please keep them home. If your child presents with these symptoms at school we will contact you to pick your child up. Electronic Gates Our electronic gates are currently being installed. They are expected to be complete by Friday March 20 so should be fully operational from next week. Access should remain the same during this week and contractors will work around pick up and drop off times. This upgrade should be a great enhancement to student safety. As I mentioned last time, there is likely to be a little bit of adjusting as we get used to the new system. Visitors after 9:10am will be required to ‘buzz in’ for access. All visitors will continue to be required to attend the office when they arrive. Prior to the bell and at the end of the day the gates will be on a timer, so they should be open for everyone in the morning and again at and after pickup time. For those in OSHClub, the gates will remain on a timer until 6pm, so there should be no disruption to that service. Upcoming Events Events that are so well received by our community are having to change due to the Covid-19 situation. This is regrettable, as we have such wonderful community spirit throughout the year for many of our events. Unfortunately, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel all our upcoming events for the end of term. This includes Harmony Day on Friday, Assemblies, Easter Hat Parade, ANZAC service, CARES bike safety and cross country. In relation to cross country, the school will run small, year group races within the school grounds. This will satisfy social isolation requirements and allow us to still determine our runners should representative sport resume in Term 2. Finally, if you still do not have the communication app, Skoolbag, please download it from the Apple store or Google Play and search for Chittaway Bay Public School. Have a great week of learning CBPS, Mr Green Principal
