Faith Focus Term 1 Week 6 Telling The Truth It is incredibly frustrating when we don’t know what the truth is. Our students become animated during games of handball when it becomes a debate about what actually happened, and individuals hold to their version of the truth. What I see in our students reflects all of our feelings when the truth is not clear. A lot of time and effort goes into debating what the truth is. Look at how technology is used in sport to try and determine what the truth is – did they hit it, would it have hit the stumps, did it land on the line or miss.? Even with all the technology available, we often don’t reach agreement on what the truth is. As I shared at chapel last Friday, determining the truth can be hard, even with people we trust. You might like to ask your child if Miss Liebelt has really never eaten fairy bread, has Mrs LeGallez been bungee jumping or does Ms Saracini always mow her lawns on Wednesdays?! The search and longing for truth runs deep in our souls. We want to have confidence that we know what is truth and what is not. We want to be told the truth by our children, our families, our politicians and leaders. King David was having a rough patch when he wrote in Psalm 25:5 “Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Saviour, and my hope is in you all day long.” God’s promises to him were looking shaky from his perspective. His nation was being attacked and he was being told all sorts of things by different people. In this uncertain time, David set Christians an example of what to do when not much else makes sense. He refocused on God and the truths God reveals to us in the bible. At St Mark’s, we believe God’s bible truths give us a firm foundation to build our lives on. Christians believe that God’s bible truths tell us - God gave us a wonderful and amazing world to live in and He wants us to care for it (Genesis 1) - God loves us and always will - God’s love and forgiveness is always ours because of Jesus (John 3:16) In our modern day when truth can be hard to discern, I’m grateful for a life based on God’s truth and his love for us all. 2021 James Heyne Lunch Clubs - Dodgeball, Art Club and Drawing Club!

Telling The TruthIt is incredibly frustrating when we don’t know what the truth is.

Christians believe that God’s bible truths tell us- God gave us a wonderful and amazing world to live in and He wants us to care for it (Genesis 1) - God loves us and always will- God’s love and forgiveness is always ours because of Jesus (John 3:16)

In our modern day when truth can be hard to discern, I’m grateful for a life based on God’s truth and his love for us all.

Important BitsPrincipal PonderingsCommunicating Student LearningThank you to families have that have responded to our two surveys over the last 18 months. The results have helped focus our improvement areas.

One of our improvement areas identified, is the timely and clear communication of student learning. A key action we are taking, is to introduce SeeSaw as a platform to share learning and progress during each term in a timely manner. Our staff are finalising our procedures and we will be working with students during the remainder of this term, to ensure they have the skills to be a key part of this process. We are intending to implement the use of SeeSaw as a student learning communication tool from the start of Term 2.

We have also considered feedback in relation to our upcoming Parent and Teacher Meetings. We will continue with the longer 15 minute interview that we trialled last year. We are also ensuring our communication during the meetings is focused and clear.

Parent Teacher MeetingsOur upcoming Parent Teacher Meetings will be held on Tuesday 30th March, Tuesday 6th April and Wednesday 7th April from 3:30 to 6:00pm each afternoon, with the exception of our Year 4 class conducting their meetings on Tuesday 30th from 3.30pm - 8pm. This opportunity to speak face to face with your child’s teacher provides an opportunity to gain an understanding of your child’s strengths and areas to develop. If a longer meeting time is required, teachers will contact you to arrange this. You are also able to arrange a time to meet with your child’s teacher at anytime throughout the year.

A letter will be emailed this afternoon to each family summarising our online booking process using Parent Teacher Online (PTO) and providing you with your login details and password required for the process. The online booking can be accessed via our website www.stmarks.sa.edu.au (School Life/Parent Teacher Meetings).

SRC’s National Ride to School DayFriday, 19th March

On Friday, 19th of March, the SRC will be hosting a National Ride to School Day.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage in active travel to school. We hope to h a v e a sea of colourful bikes and scooters parked in the quadrangle as a reminder of the importance of keeping fit!

If your child is unable to ride to school unsupervised, you are welcome to drop them off, with their bicycle or scooter and helmet, at the end of Hack St by the bridge that leads onto the bike path/walkway to Keith Stephenson Park

at 8:20am. Teachers will supervise your child ride to school along Hack St and then onto Hampden Rd to the school. Please note, students will begin to ride to school from 8:25am with the last group leaving Hack St at 8:30am.

The SRC will meet students as they arrive at St Mark’s. Each student who rides to school will receive a raffle ticket which will go in the draw for a prize.

At the end of the school day, we ask that parents collect their child as per usual. Duty teachers will be able to support your child in wheeling their bike to your car.

We look forward to this exciting event on Friday, 19th of March!

Loredana SaraciniDeputy Principal forSRC

Last year’s event was very well attended!

IMPORTANT!Remember Sports Day starts at 12.40pm.

Year 4 NewsIn Christian Studies we have been learning about Jesus and how his identity and life is central to Christianity.

To help us learn more about Jesus as a person, we have been researching what life would have been like when Jesus lived on earth. We found out that cooking was done on fires and they had much simpler foods. We also found out they used clay pots to store water and other foods. In class we created our own pots during visual arts- take a look!

At Twilight Sports Day, the P&F will be organising some food stalls, one selling sausages and drinks and another selling coffee and cake. In this week’s newsletter there is one last call for volunteers to help out on the stalls or making baked goods as well as the ordering instructions for the Snack Packs. Please get these in by tomorrow, Friday 5th March. We would love some more help!

School LifeYear 3 NewsIn Art, we are learning about different artists and the techniques, style and conventions they use.

On Friday, we used acrylic paint but we weren’t allowed to use a paint brush.

We explored a scraping technique where foam, cardboard, pop sticks, matchsticks and foam rollers were used to create d i f f e r e n t effects.

Our abstract artwork can be viewed in the hallways.

In You Can Do It lessons, 3L brainstormed ideas about what teamwork looks like and sounds like, as well as what it sounds like when no teamwork was occurring.

You Can Do It, is a social skills program that focuses on the Five Keys to Success - Resilience, Organisation, Persistence, Confidence and Getting Along with Others. These traits are referred to in teaching across all our year levels.

German NewsIn German class, our Year 2’s have been experimenting with the iPad program, Book Creator.

They created books about their lives and families using common german phrases and simple sentences.

Children needed to add photos and labels in both english and german.

To make their books interactive, students added audio recordings of their work. .

Sports Day – How You Can HelpWe’re excited to have parents and siblings joining us for Sports Day on Friday the 12th. If you’ve been before, you will notice a few changes and your cooperation with these will ensure we hold a successful event within restrictions that apply, and can plan for further community gatherings.

To play your role, please observe and note the following:• If you are unwell please do not attend;• When you arrive on site please sign in using the COVID safe QR code or sign in on the paper sign in sheet;• Please maintain good hygiene practices including using the hand sanitiser provided;• Please maintain 1.5 m between family groups. I know this will be a challenge when queuing for coffee, cake and the sausage sizzle and when you are watching your child at events;• Our P & F will have their stalls set up in new locations and running differently to comply with regulations;• Observe the entry, queuing and exit signs;• Maintain distancing when queuing;• Stalls will be cash only – EPFTOS will not be available. Please be patient - our amazing P & F volunteers are parents of students participating in the day. There will be times during the day, our coffee, cake and BBQ stalls will close to enable them to be a parent and enjoy the day with their children. Please be understanding of this. If you are able to volunteer, this will share the load and enable the stalls to be open longer.

Thank you for your cooperation with attendance being limited to parents and siblings. Your understanding is appreciated. There will be a small number of other family members attending due to the need to cater for different circumstances which have been discussed with me. If you think this could apply to you, please contact me before Sports Day.
