School Holidays A reminder that all students will return to school on Wednesday 26th April and line up for a Super Star Assembly at 8:55am. Staff will be back on deck on Monday 24th April for the School Development Day. Over the school break we rely on our families and community to keep our school safe. If you are concerned about any actions occurring on school grounds please call School Security on 1300 880 021—this is a 24 hour service.

ANZAC Ceremony To commemorate ANZAC Day we will be hosting an ANZAC Ceremony on Wednesday 26th April at 12pm. Families and loved ones are welcome to attend this service run by our student leaders.

Reading with your Child Information Session Ms Stehr, our relieving Assistant Principal, will be running a parent information session on how to assist your children with their reading, from low text levels right up to independent readers. This session will be held in Week 1 Term 2 on Thursday 27th April at 3:30pm in The Hive. If you would like to attend this information session, please fill out the form sent home today and return to the office the end of Week 11 Term 1.

District Cross Country The Central Wollongong PSSA District Cross Country is on Wednesday May 3rd at Kembla Joggers, Darkes Rd, Brownsville. Our Figtree Heights School Team will be accompanied by Mr Nielsen and Ms Stehr. We wish all our runners the very best for this carnival. Please make sure permission notes are handed back to school ASAP.

Winter Uniform Change Over As the weather cools down, we will be making a decision for our two week winter uniform change over. For all new families, early next term our school will notify families of the winter uniform change over date. There is a two week period leading up to this date, where students can choose to wear either their summer or winter uniform, depending on the weather that day. At the conclusion of this two week period, it is expected that all students are in their full winter school uniform.

Happy Holidays It is incredible how fast this term has flown by. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our families for the continued support of our school, our students and staff. Term 1 certainly has been action packed and as we wave goodbye to the term, I would like to wish everyone a safe and relaxing Easter break. Entertainment Book Fundraiser: Thank you to all the families who have purchased their 2017/2018 Entertainment Book or Entertainment Digital Membership. If you order before April 5 you receive the Bonus Early Bird offers. If you have ordered the Book they are due for delivery on Monday May 8 and the Early Bird Offers will also arrive then. PARENT VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED! We have been very fortunate to have received some amazing new books for The Hive through the Scholastic Book Club Rewards, including heaps of Premier's Reading Challenge books. In order for these to be borrowed by the students they need to be covered in clear contact so that we get the longest life out of our books. If you are able to spare an hour or two to help cover these books it would be greatly appreciated. Can you please let Mrs Jackson know as soon as possible if you can help in any way. Thank you! The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is well underway and I'm pleased to see many students borrowing PRC books so they can complete the challenge. It is such a great opportunity for students to read a range of texts and develop their love of reading. The challenge closes on 25th August 2017 so there is still plenty of time to get started in order to read the required number of books. Students can record the books they have read on the PRC website: http://www.premiersreadingchallenge.nsw.edu.au and any other questions you have can be answered here too. HAPPY READING!!

ILLAWARRA SCHOOLS MUFTI DAY

Thursday 27th April We will be having a mufti day on Thursday April 27th (Term2, Week 1). It will be a gold coin donation with all proceeds going to schools affected by floods in the Lismore district.

They have lost thousands and thousands of dollars in books and school resources. It would be lovely if we could all help contribute and help students and teachers in far northern NSW with the rebuilding of the resources in their schools.
