NEWSLETTER January—June 2015
The Centre records more than 7,000 visits every 12 weeks. The 74 active volunteers and staff work tirelessly to provide a welcoming and positive environment, opportunities for residents to build social networks, improve physical and mental wellbeing, increase knowledge, practical skills and enjoy a broad range of leisure activities. Our new activities this year include: Parents and Prams Exercise Program, the Aberfoyle Park Amnesty International Action Group and Surfing @ Aberfoyle Park and a banking workshop with BankSA. Additionally we have entered into a new and exciting partnership with BankSA Aberfoyle Park. Further details below.
Young Adult Art Workshop Date: Tuesday 21 April Time: 10 am-3 pm
Cost: $8 per person (including lunch)
The watercolour workshop is being led by Alan Louis Ramachandran, the recipient of 35 awards. He conducts workshops at Carclew and Art Societies. This is a wonderful opportunity for young adults aged 14 years and over to come and try in a non-threatening environment.

Aberfoyle Community Centre and BankSA have joined together in an Alliance to raise funds for the Centre to purchase equipment.
When you take out a New Home Loan or move your Existing Home Loan to BankSA mention the Community Centre and BankSA will give an agreed % of the settled loan amount as a commission to help fundraise for the Centre.

Flinders University, in partnership with Aberfoyle Community Centre and TAFE SA, are excited to announce a new initiative engaging adult learners in the community. This part time 18-week preparation course aims
to provide people with the skills, knowledge and confidence should they wish to continue their pathway onto higher education. Through the provision of individual case management support, participants are encouraged to identify their own goals and aspirations. A social program that meets on Wednesdays for people who require support, socialisation and special attention to enhance their life. A wide variety of activities and occasional bus trips. A low-cost home-cooked meal is included on program day. Transport to and from Centre is available for a nominal fee. HACC assessment criteria applies. The Program is managed by ACH Group

Our Program: is designed to provide a high level of support to assist learners to further develop their ability to function effectively in life,
community and work. First and second-language speakers of English experiencing any degree of difficulty with the written and/or spoken English
language are encouraged to attend. It has a focus on English language and literacy support, including:
Functional Literacy- English conversation, reading, writing, grammar, punctuation, spelling, numeracy skills
Employment Literacy- setting career goals, identifying training options/work pathways, writing applications and resumes Cultural Literacy - the cultures that make up our Australian society, its language, history, laws, systems and customs
Digital Literacy- using computers and other technology to access information for personal, family and work needs
Financial Literacy- managing money in order to maintain and/or improve your standard of living, health and wellbeing
Health Literacy- the Australian health system, reading/ interpreting information and advice relating to health and well being
Environmental Literacy – understanding issues relating to the environment
Our individual and small group sessions: are delivered by volunteer tutors in a friendly community setting. Our aim is to assist you to learn at
your own pace to achieve your own goals. We welcome all adults not attending secondary school.
Costs: $6 per person/per session—payable each day of attendance
Crèche facilities: your children will be cared for in our crèche for a gold coin donation

FREE Banking Workshop Presented by BankSA Staff from the local Branch of BankSA will be presenting at the Aberfoyle Community Centre Date: 17 February Time: 1pm — 3 pm
This presentation will provide great exposure to in-ternet banking using iPads, tablets and smart phones and the security that supports it. We will introduce you to a demonstration site on the day and invite you to bring your own devices (no power cords, batteries only) as it will be highly interactive and the perfect opportunity for you to practice in an assisted environment.
