Columbia

Columbia Records is the oldest brand name in recorded sound. Founded in January 1889 in Washington DC as the Columbia Graphophone Company by Edward D. Easton, the company first sold phonograph cylinders and later disc records.

Epic Records

Epic Records is an American record label owned by Sony Music Entertainment. Originally conceived as a jazz imprint in 1953, it has since expanded to represent various genres. Today, the company is one of three main flagship labels for Sony Music, with the other two being Columbia Records and RCA Records.

Relentless Records

Relentless Records was started by ShabsJobanputra and Paul Franklyn in 1999. The idea was to set up a new black music label representing the best of British urban music. The label changed direction in 2003 with the release of Joss Stone's debut album and now releases a broad range of new British music.

LegacyLegacy Recordings is Sony Music Entertainment's catalog

division. It was founded in 1990 by CBS Records under the leadership of Jerry Shulman, Richard Bauer, Gary Pacheco and Amy Herot to handle reissues of recordings from the vast catalogues of Columbia Records, Epic Records and associated labels. The division now additionally handles the archives of Sony Music's RCA, J Records, Windham Hill, Arista, LaFace, Jive, Buddah Records, Philadelphia International Records, as well as Sony BMG Nashville. It also handles the catalog of recordings produced by Phil Spector.

• Doug Morris began working with MCA Records in July 1995 by forming a joint venture record label, which became Universal Records when Morris was appointed Chairman and CEO of MCA Music Entertainment Group in November 1995. The company was renamed Universal Music Group the following year. He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; his ceremony was held on January 26, 2010, at the corner of Hollywood and Vine. Lucian Grainge replaced Morris as CEO on January 1, 2011 and later replaced him as chairman on March 9, 2011.
