Letter from the Executive Director

It’s been an extraordinary year at the Tepper School of Business as we’ve settled into our new world-class facilities within the David A. Tepper Quadrangle. The Tepper Quad has quickly become a center of activity on campus, placing the Tepper School of Business at the juncture of interdisciplinary innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship at Carnegie Mellon. Additionally, the strength of the job market has supported record-setting starting compensation and diversified employment outcomes for our students.

This year, we’re pleased to note that nearly a third of our full-time MBA graduates accepted positions in the consulting industry, and the exact same number of students accepted positions in the technology industry. The remaining industry sectors of note include financial services, biopharma/health care, manufacturing, consumer products, energy, and others.

As our students begin new and exciting careers across so many industries, we remain committed to ensuring that organizations worldwide recognize the distinction and potential of Tepper School graduates. Beginning with the Class of 2020, the Tepper MBA program is STEM designated, making our current international students in need of sponsorship eligible for a 24-month extension to their post-completion Optional Practical Training, providing up to 36 months (instead of only 12 months) of temporary employment in the U.S.

As our students strive to achieve their academic and professional goals, they also appreciate our personalized approach to career development and recruiting. The Masters Career Center (MCC) team conducted 4,000 advising appointments with students last year, hosted more than 2,000 on-campus interviews, and supported more than a dozen career treks to connect our students with alumni and recruiters across industries and geographies.

Our personalized approach to service extends to our recruiting partners. As a valued partner, the MCC team remains committed to providing you with a world-class recruiting experience that meets your unique needs and objectives. We also value the opportunity to engage with new recruiters and are eager to discuss how we can help you plan a successful recruiting strategy at the Tepper School.

The MCC Team and I hope you will enjoy reviewing our 2019 Employment Report as well as our website at tepper.cmu.edu/recruit@tepper. We look forward to partnering with you!

Sincerely,

Stephen Rakas, Executive Director Masters Career CenterTepper School of BusinessCarnegie Mellon University

Tepper MBAs have advanced exposure to both leadership and analytics — providing a high-performance career advantage. The coursework for the Full-Time, Part-Time Online Hybrid, and Part-Time Flex MBA begins with an emphasis on the core base of management skills and business drivers. Unlike many MBA programs, the Tepper School sequences core and elective coursework in order to ensure students have deep understanding and preparation.

In the first year (full-time) and first half of the program (part-time), the MBA curriculum concentrates on those engines that influence business results. In year two and the second half of the program, students transition into classes, project courses, and team-based capstones that elevate practical application. Students are given an impressive range of electives and leadership options that accelerate learning and career opportunities.

CONCENTRATIONS

Choosing from approximately 10 concentrations, most students identify three to five concentrations. These courses build upon the preparation from core coursework as well as the summer internship experience.

MBA TRACKS

MBA tracks — which represent a configuration of specific electives within the business school and/or across the Carnegie Mellon campus — provide an opportunity for in-depth study in a particular field or career path.

MBA CAPSTONE COURSES

Capstones often reflect immersive, experiential coursework in which students and professors work alongside corporations and recruiters on real-world consulting assignments.

GLOBAL STUDY

The small size and international focus of our program makes global study an appealing option. The two primary capstone treks include the European Study Abroad — eight weeks in Germany, partnering with the WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management in Koblenz — and the Asia Study Abroad — eight weeks at The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Business School.

In addition, student clubs organize non-credit student treks during spring break; in recent years, these treks have included travel to Latin America, China, Japan, Dubai and Qatar (with visits to the Carnegie Mellon campus in Doha), and Israel.$126,250
